  • I wanted to do a quick tour the shady part of my property. It's full of Hostas, Heucheras and other random plants. This is probably the end of the Spring Garden as the summer heat will kick in any day. This is my zone 5b Garden in Central Illinois

    The hosta in front to the left of your heucheras looks like it might be 'June.' (Love your garden, BTW!) :-) You have a good eye for arranging your plants. I'm jealous of your thuggish pulmonarias. While we can grow them here in Western Washington and they sometimes seed ... they tend to dwindle and dry out by late summer and are prone to mildew (even with regular watering). I think they'd love a more moisture retentive soil than I have here ... and more rain in summer, which we actually rarely get (it pours in November though). :-P

    Omg I love this garden!! I think your gorgeous big blue Hostas that were in such spectacular bloom may be a different variety tho. Possibly Blue Angel? Not sure, there are so many gorgeous blue Hostas out there, But I’m pretty sure the one further down the bed that you said you didn’t know it’s variety that has a more cupped leaf is big daddy, I’ve got 5 of them in my Hosta bed. Either way I would love to know what the other (the first set) are, their blooms are so full, I bet the hummingbirds got nuts for them.
    Thank you for sharing you beautiful space it’s given me some wonderful ideas 🥰

    • @edgygardener2826
      @edgygardener2826  2 года назад

      You are right, they might be Blue Angel. Since they came from another garden, I can't be sure. I will try to do some searching based on leaf size and bloom. Thanks fro stoppin in

    Do you keep you spiral arborvitaes in the container there for the winter?
    Gatsby star hydrangea looks gorgeous! 💚🪴💚

    • @edgygardener2826
      @edgygardener2826  3 года назад +1

      Yes. I keep them in the exact spot all winter. The containers are the double lines self watering kind. I bought them last year, so they have survived ONE Illinois winter so far. I think they are rated in a few zones lower than mine, so I hope that is enough

    • @TracysHomeGarden

    So excited to see your Tiger Eye sumac since I've been researching it. Hearing it is somewhat invasive but improved upon from older varieties. Can you please share your experience with it? Anything you can tell me about this bush I would appreciate but especially about its fall color and controllability & if you have any pics of what it actually looks like in the fall to show, that would be the best!! I saw it once and was blown away by the change from chartreuse to what I remember being oranges and reds which are my favorite fall colors so I'm trying to introduce them into my landscape. Thank you so much from your new subscribee...if that's a word?😜

It would be super helpful if you could give more information about the plants you are mentioning, such as zone, fall color, when they flower, etc. I’m familiar with many, but definitely not all and finding new varieties is one of the best parts of these videos!😁Thanks!

    I don't understand why anyone would want to grow a flower garden anymore. Especially with things being so expensive. You can grow vegetables and still have a beautiful garden.
