You weren't expecting that??!! The second I saw where the drips were I instantly knew it was a rusted clamp. Extremely common on those lol

When using screw clamps use the smallest diameter clamp you can. Tightening oversized clamps deforms them at the back side of the screw and can deform the plastic radiator snout. I have seen many of those spring clamps break like that one did.

I just had my lower radiator hose off yesterday… it’s an 02 f150 and the hose and clamps are mint. Personally if they look ok I would never change them… old doesn’t always mean bad

I couldn’t agree more, it may just be the materials used on this gmc and outside condition in the rust belt

The lower radiator spring clamps on both my old cars were severely corroded and failed. The cars are driven in winter rust belt conditions and those lower clamps are exposed most directly to the elements. The other clamps are less directly exposed and have not severally corroded so I left them and they're fine so far. The cars are 12 and 16 years old, the older one with over 200k miles.

Great to know! I agree in this case as well. Only the Lowe clamp was this bad

If it were my vehicle, I would have replaced all the clamps and hoses before they got to that point. I'd present the situation to the customer, explain the possibility of another failure of the old/rusted components, and let him decide.

Absolutely 100% this thing needs some attention for sure. That’s a good approach and I’ll state it on the work order as well

I am hoping to God this is the issue I discovered moments ago. I will see where it is coming from tomorrow, but one of those clamps looks a little sketchy, like it backed off a little.

Must have been some time for the clamp to rust. I'm not sure what state you are in, so you don't have to empty the coolet again.😳 Be a good mechanic and replace all those that are rusted for the cust👍😎

2011. I’m located in Pennsylvania, this has NJ tags on it. they had broke down due to another issue. however it was dripping coolant so me Bea good guy offered to take a look. Well The rest is history, this one appeared to be in the worst condition. the area in general seemed pretty rusted for some reason. Maybe it collects a lot of road grime, I’m not really sure

can you use worm type clamps for the long run instead self-adjusting spring clamps? anyone had any problems with worm type clamps?

The clamps won’t pop but your radiator will. Pop a clamp your buying a new radiator

there is no spring clamp available at ford

Funny you say this, I was talking with a friend today and he had mentioned how packed the new truck inventory was at the ford dealerships. I hadn’t paid much mind to it however on my way home I took notice. Are the trucks just not selling? He mentioned that the mark up was getting out of hand as well. I don’t know how any average person could afford anything on these lots anymore
