This opera was THE turning point of Verdi’s career, and perhaps his magnum opus (along with the supreme creation that is Otello). In it, he utilized some very new techniques: a strong emphasis of orchestral recitative to blur the line between aria and recit, new orchestral effects (I think of the storm scene), and, of course, wonderful melodies that stick with you like a bad penny. With Rigoletto, we get a sense of Verdi’s love for tragedy; how painful it all is, the life of the poor hunchback. And how beautifully Verdi writes for him. Verdi really was the quintessential Italian Romantic composer.
Few people realize that Verdi was a very good orchestral writer in his own right. It is indeed very present here, in wonderful moments such as the prelude, the measures before the conclusion of Act 1 (those constant key-changes!!), and Rigoletto’s monologue in Act 2.
I am working on other Verdi operas, so stay tuned. - Видеоклипы

Thank you very much for the score.
Bellisima! Grazie a tanto!
Simon. Your painstaking work is much appreciated. I am an Italian speaker and many translations (of others) are outdated. Some verbage used such as to taste: “libare,” are now seldom used, having been replaced by “assaggiare” or “gustare.” Thanks again for your perfectly timed scores. Your synchronized the score sheet transitions superbly!
One of the best operas from the Italian genius.
And most definately the first one that was perfect in every way. All that came before suffered from either weak libretti, lacking musical inspiration or the corset of operatic tradition that Verdi had to operate under. Rigoletto is the first opera in which he said: "To hell with traditions, I want to tell a story first! And so I can't have the tradition of having the soprano sing an aria with female choir as No.2 interfere with how the story goes."
So there is no Soprano Aria in 2nd place, there are not even women in the choir.
And that is just one of many examples where Verdi finally took total creative control and got rid of limiting prerequistes of how an italian opera should be structured.
Took him just 15 attempts to get there...
@@Quotenwagnerianer I agree with you and that’s why I think Verdi is beyond other Italian composers (except Puccini). His operas are in my opinion way more interesting and captivating than Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti’s ones and we are very luck he lived so long.
I never noticed the modulations near the end of Act 1 before I saw your commentary! Wow! They remind me of the jarring, flashing, bright modulations in the opening chorus of Pagliacci, except Verdi's case is not as much in-your-face.
Bonus thank you,,,,I just bought the score for La Traviata,,,this is even better.
Grazie from an Aussie Opera love.
Rigoletto is one of Verdi’s best.
very thanks
Thanks

Will you be doing other Verdi Operas?
Working on La Traviata. Will later do La Forza del Destino and Il Trovatore.
Take your time. It must be a lot of work.
@@thechosenone3197 It sure is, especially since I have college to balance along with these passion projects of mine. However, I am appalled that more opera scores aren’t uploaded on other channels, so I think I have my love of opera to count on in order to help me work rather quickly!
I like Classical Music but I don’t think I could listen to Opera as opposed to purely orchestral music without the score.
@@thechosenone3197 on the contrary I think opera is a much richer world than pure classical, but after all classical is awesome because it's diverse.
Takes me back to Sapienza.

His brother, Ferdi!
Pavarotti?
In person. It's hard to confuse his voice with another one ).
I am in Italy and they r playing the same 5 'Italian' songs over and over, combined with African American music ad nauseum. Pls make it stop. Whatever happened to something like Rigoletto?
disgustosi tuttie quelle risatine, porcheriole intromesse nella partitura, un cattivo gusto imperdonabile
