    Video Summary:
    We all have bad habits, whose effects can vary from mild to costly and dangerous. Once the rut of a bad habit is worn in your mind, it can take a lot of momentum to propel yourself out of it.
    The first step to breaking a bad habit is to consider your motivation for wanting to change. External pressure to please or not disappoint others creates much weaker motivation than calculating a cost -- benefit analysis that convinces you to do it for your own good. The second step is to accept responsibility for your habit. You can't break a habit if you blame someone else for making you do it. And believe that you indeed can make the change. If you think you can't, you won't.
    Then make a 100% commitment with no wiggle room. Use the Law of Attraction to replace your bad habit with a positive one. To further strengthen your resolve, employ the technique of visualization via future projection -- of both the mental, physical, and financial cost of continuing the habit, as well as the improvement in all those areas of your life when you substitute a positive habit in its place.

    From now I will change my habit of watching RUclips videos the entire day and not studying or going out. I'll have an specific time a day (like 2:30 hours) to watch RUclips videos, and I will replace it by studying to enter a medical school (and after to become a doctor) and socializing to develop my social skills which, in the moment, are bad, very bad and prejudicing myself a lot. This will help me also to sleep and wake earlier. I commit myself 100% with this.

I think coming across your videos is complete coincidence as well as some kind of fate. So glad that i still have time to change.

      Yes in that when im motivated to change / chase my true life, i sketch and make studies
      But, no, in that I keep chainsmoking after work and passing out from booze all cuz I feel I missed my chance "if i was a real artist with potential i would be working harder". So most of my sketches go unfinished or in a fit of frustration thrown in the bin.
      In example: I started my twiter and deviantart years ago, yet i have posted next to nothing. Thats not what "real" artists do. So I drink and chainsmoke and oversleep my life away...

    I have spent over 40 years of my life reading self-help, NLP, meditation psychology and many other personal development books, tapes courses, etc. I am a lifelong student never ceasing my search the best methods available, so it came as a great surprise when I tried this negative/positive meditation for bruxism (grinding teeth) and it worked right away. I have made it 24 hours (a record) with barely a gnash of my teeth. I know all the methods but I let them slip out of practice for a few years and some bad habits and old thought patterns returned.
    Thank you Leo for providing this video to remind me of a time from my past when I was in control of everything. Now it's time to regain all of my control!

    Cool video Leo. Cheers for sharing that wee nugget. I finished reading "unlimited power" by Anthony Robbins. What a book. My journey has been an interesting one. This year has been awesome, lost 30Ib's & still toning up.
    Ran my fastest 8km run last week in 35mins 03sec's. The journey I'm on is pretty much the same as yourself. I'm making the most of my musical & artistic & writing skills since last year.
    Becoming more & more focused & disciplined in everything I do. It's all down to running and setting constant goals and achieving everything I set out to do. I know loads of people that watch TV and play video games. Used to do it years ago yet got bored as it was getting me know where.
    Now I feel my life has begun in the last two years. Ran 2 marathons and running my 3rd this year. Never ran until 3 years ago. Love your videos dude and people like yourself. They get me thinking of other areas I could improve on. All the best, Eamonn Ryan

    Really appreciate your videos. You actually give really good advice and it works. I may not comment often on your videos (too busy trying to absorb info) but understand that I am so thankful to listen to some of these. I love topics like these, and I often wonder about such things. but it's not something I can easily discuss with people. I'm going to be thinking deeply about some of the videos I can watch daily and focus on putting them into action, then I'll be back for more. Thank you so much!
    Just to share what I'm committing to (and now with even more conviction):
    - Working out and lifting weights,
    - Eating cleaner (less sugar, dairy)
    - Releasing negative low self esteem thoughts, and committing to taking actions to solve problems instead of lamenting
    - Be more social to reach out to people, regardless of whether I feel like it or not. (The idea of being socially isolated for another decade kills me.)

    I'm having fuck loads of trouble with my porn addiction... i feel like its holding me by the balls and its a huge distraction to my life. But i keep giving myself excuses like "oh but leo says porn is fine, it's no big deal" and i just keep getting stuck and loses my drive to quitting it. I notice it affects my behaviour subtly i always gain major brain fog from it. It degrounds me and makes me go into a stimuls respinse mode throughout my week. I researched and found how it affects dopamine levels and nueroplasticity etc. And i believe this this cause ive noticed it myself.
    I tried to quit doing a 90 day challenge... highest abstinance was 44 days but i just kept having excuses as to why it's pointless. Im still a teen never been laid and i believe porn is my only sexual avenue atm. I notice it numbs my happiness to the present and i need more stimuli to get that kick :/
    I
    see this is a big problem for me, but my mind also says i'm just bullshitting myself and its not important.
    Idk what to do i will try to quit but i dont believe i'l maintain it. Can someone help me out please!

    My biggest habit is being a empathetic rescue aholic which includes people being strongly effected by my smile, eyes and laughing which seems to be very effective in cheering them up. This occurred since I was a baby. Now that I am kind of sick, my smiling is not so often and is more a frown and this now has a negative effect on the mood of my family, which also instills paranoia and anxiety and worry in them. I greater pleasure from full-filling the needs of others, than myself, even though I also love my own company and I enjoy singing and trying out different activities.
    However, I made the decision now to spend at least a mount away from my anxious, fearful, pessimistic, logical, very critical, co-dependent family and all forms of negativity including mindless habits and being fully responsible for everything in my life. The truth is that I have always been scared of my family or friends shouting at me, telling me to relax, telling me to listen and constantly regularly seeking emotional support from me as well as academic support and me having to make a choice for both siblings as they get quiet indecisive and rely on others opinions, especially mine. So I am delighted that I will be getting away from that emotionally and physically. I tried just living away, but it didn't have much of an effect and i still got suck into my friend and families negative energy. For example my friend admits and quotes "I am very jealous of you, I wish that I was approached by girls, ah you are such a btch, I wish I was as motivated as you, it is not my fault, I like that you are open-minded, are you mad with me, what did I do wrong, I can't help it ok, it is not my fault that am fecked, I am depressed, I am tired of feeling tired all the time, you just use me for lifts, I just like to touchy someone and hold someone, fine it is none of my business, you are so rude, you never listen to me, no I am sorry I am not letting you go off with him ok, not while I am here anyway". This is only some of what my male friend says. I have always felt guilt when ignoring him, not contacting him, wanting a break from him, when I get approached by guys in a club or am invited out somewhere nice by strangers. My family all love him and thinks i should appreciate him and think he is very kind and loves people. he believes that most people are bstards and he also labels certain people as arrogant, nice, lovely, egotistic, evil, law di da.
    One of the reasons I am deciding to break all contact fro at least a month is because I have been sick since 2012 and very unhappy being around my family since I was 16. I think my body may be attacking me or my body may be attacked from some organism which is a threat to my body. I am completely aware that a huge majority has this problem, that it greatly effects your quality of life and makes stress more difficult to deal with. My goal is to get rid of the emotional barrier which lead to my sickness. sickness every day sickness, seems to be quite normal within my entire family and most of my uncles suffer some form of mental illness and my Dad died from severe cancer. I am told by man that it is natural as well to get very sick during your old age as that is apart of the aging process and you just get weaker and weaker until you just fade away and can't even move. This according to my family, begins at the age of 60. My mother is a retired clinical nurse who takes her practice very seriously.
    I heard that there are some who age well. I don't want to age in the way commonly believed by my family as it would be a great nightmare and would rather not be alive. I want to pull the bull by it's horns now and try to either reduce the impact of my disease, stop it from getting worse than it actually is now or reverse it completely. am at the stage now of eye sight distance slight loss, dry eyes, pain in my joints, fatigue and big shift from being very chatty and hipper to very quiet and mostly unhappy. I know that there will be hell to pay from my family when I come back to them after taking this big break or by me even contacting them, All I get is constant gossiping, criticism, them talking about the news, them talking about how they have no choice and how everything is unfair, as well as believing that something really terrible would happen a family member, which usually doesn't but rarely does and if something bad happens, it is only something small.
    I want to fully commit myself to living habits of a person who experiences and lives great wellness, has lots of privacy and freedom, doesn't get sucked into troubles by others and end up having to save them as they cannot save themselves, whether it be, money, relationships or just giving up on life. I want to be very healthy, only live the life I want to live, with very little interruption such as interferences or someone needing to be rescued by me. I want to make my own choices and do what I love. I wonder is this possible for somebody in my position and someone who is intellectually disabled.
    I really enjoyed your video Leo, and it is so inspiring.
    Thank you.

  • @ezenart
    @ezenart 9 лет назад +20

    I'm fucking lazy, that's my problem. I'm very dependant on my parents, I've become more and more bitter over the years and I'm ultimately unhappy but every big problem I have comes back to it. I'm lazy, I achieve nothing, I feel stupid and unaccomplished. Most of my friends are going to great colleges because they either worked for it or had the financial opportunity (or both) to do so and I have nothing. If I worked hard, I'd be more independent, If I accomplished big things I'd be less bitter and I'd be happier. I feel like a failure. I have to change, right now before it's too late, I've been telling myself over the years that it's too late to change but every time it gets worse I regret not having changed earlier.

    • @JaredWhiter
      @JaredWhiter 9 лет назад +4

      It's never too late to change. A bigger part of the problem is the negativity you feel towards yourself. If you keep telling yourself you're a failure and that you achieve nothing, then that's the result you will get. I had the same problem for a long time and it's only recently that I've been able to see that beating myself up was a big part of why I was stuck. I would be baffled as to how everyone else I knew seemed so successful and I was doing the same repetitive shit, tv and video games, day in and day out.
      Look for a few positives about yourself and build on those. Remind yourself of those positive attributes and gain some self confidence. If you're not sure what you are passionate about, think back to the fun things you used to do in your younger years and build on those. Maybe there was a particular topic that you enjoyed such as cars, sports, weather, astronomy,etc. Perhaps an activity that you did on your own without anyone telling you to do it such as drawing or studying. Perhaps something there will spark some interest and may ultimately lead to a passion you didn't even know you had. Even if it doesn't, you may discover something you enjoy that you could use to occupy your time while you figure out what you want to do. Just take it a few small steps at a time and remember, you're not on any else's time table but your own. It's never too late.
      With my new change in attitude, within a given week i watch maybe 3 hours of tv, 2 of which is usually a new movie I haven't seen yet, and video games no more than 4 hours a week, and that's getting less as well.

      Vito Tyger Something must have happened with my internet connection, I was sure that I had already responded to you but there is no reply from me in this thread, sorry. It's actually better, some ups and downs but better. Mindsets are key and also being aware of everything you do, don't do, feel and think. When you're really aware of all those things, being happy and changing is much easier. My life hasn't completely changed yet, I still have much more work to do but just seeing progress makes me know that change is achievable. Thanks for asking.

    • @ezenart
      @ezenart 9 лет назад +3

      Jared Whiter I'm really grateful for the time you took to write that. I really stuck to my words there and actually have been trying to change since. Some of the things you said I concluded myself too. With the right mindset and actual work change is much easier than what I thought it would be. You're right, telling yourself those things and being so negative makes it much more difficult to change and much easier to give up. There have been multiple ups and downs in my life since but ultimately I'm better and just the notion of progress makes me see clearly that change is in fact possible. I'm not yet where I want to be as my first personal development goal but I am much closer than I've been in a long time. I still have a lot of work to do but I'll get there, just like you. My passion is art, by the way and I decided to study Digital Animation, my medium length goal is to get in CalArts with some sort of scholarship for my Masters Degree after I finish my bachelors here in the school that I can actually pay for.

    Games and procrastination. They've worked really well together, and kept me from doing anything that I don't absolutely *have to* do. I think it's been hard to kick this habit because it hasn't held me back enough in life. I always done alright in my studies and at work, and stayed afloat financially. At the same time, I haven't spent any time working on my dreams, or improving my standard of living in any way.
    - However, when I saw myself 10 years into the future, sitting at the computer playing games and telling myself I can always pursue my dreams later, I felt really bad (maybe even disgusted). I really don't want to throw away ten years on games and excuses. Your exercise might've worked... I feel I have to struggle to keep this fire going though.

    My life's ambition is to write a novel and I've been writing it about a year now.
    But truly I've spent my entire life working on it because I never watched anything that I wasn't analyzing and deconstructing, etc. That was not time wasted for me. Sure some, but the vast majority was education in my craft.

    As a Porn Addict, I agree completely with what you said about the need to fill that gap in your life.
    I've tried multiple times to quit and it is such a struggle because it is something that happens late at night or when I'm feeling quite down. It is especially hard because when I go through a stint of not viewing it, I suddenly have this feeling of, "What the crap do I do right now?"
    You've gotta have a plan, you've gotta have a focus and if you don't, your mind will be constantly on whatever you are trying to quit. The more you think about it, the more you "miss" it.

    The conscious intent is to stop, deny and resist the habit, BUT unless we can alter our unconscious addiction to that particular habits-dopamine, it'll only repeat, kinda like a comfort-zone!
    I find that consistent "tapping(eft)" every single day on the exact target really helps a lot!! BUT there are a lot of times the unconscious interferes with the subconscious to take you off the path OR divert your focus and attention which sucks, cuz than you have to start again!!
