This is really heartwarming to see! I came to Russia in 2012 and at that point my friends didn't really understand why or where I was going to. People here in Russia were questioning my decision as well, as not many of them could understand why would a person from "the West" come and live here. But time passed and now I see more and more foreigners and Russian-born foreigners coming back and most have very similar reasoning! I'm glad more people appreciate this wonderful country and value everything that it has to offer! Thanks for the interviews and all the best!!

In my culture if you’re not smiling it means you have mental illness basically the opposite of Russians but i learned to understand.
Mexicans we live hard lives and we say it’s better to smile than be sad about it. Even in death we will smile, all men should be friends unless it’s war. Being polite and greeting all people is honorable.
You obviously don’t have to smile for no reason but being alive is reason enough to be happy.

As a person born in the USSR, I am amazed how things have changed. I mean, in my childhood I had doubts you guys even existed ( I mean as a real nation, not somebody's fantasy), so distant and alien our countries felt. And now look at you, living in Russia, and educiting me about some things i've never paid attention to as a native. Thanks a lot for the experience !

Судя по тому что ...здраствуйте ваш тариф переходит в "Архив"по этому мы хотим очень очень предложит(в формирование не натуралистичных то есть искуственных инфляционных процессов) невероятновыгоднный(для нас) новый тарифный план(с не имеющим под собой оснований) оверпрайсом- с парожением ваших прав... не делаем и не бережом.
@@JIUNnFпотому что наша общность идёт скорее ещё из советских времен. И то, человек живший в 80-90-е будет видеть большую разницу между взаимоотношениями нынешними и тогдашними.
А пример с тарифами это чисто капиталистическая фигня. Нас уже 30 лет в это тянут, так что, вполне возможно что ещё сотня лет и наше общество не сильно будет отличаться от западного, когда никому не доверяешь и живёшь только ради себя. Я помню, что американцы говорили про наших первых переселенцев, что они очень доверчивые, как дети. А они были не доверчивые, они просто не знали как на самом деле устроено капиталистическое общество, слушали bbc и верили в то что там все добрые потому что улыбаются и не понимали что улыбка или доброе слово там это просто формальность. И что даже последний жулик, обкрадывая вас, будет улыбаться и интересоваться "как вы?".

In Russia the roles of the household are fairly primal in a sense - the job of a woman is to make a house a home, so she is boss, the job of a man is to provide materially..
When it comes to out of the house activities, the man is actually expected to take charge..

I am from Moldova, but living in UK now. I was born in Soviet Union. There were over 150 nationalities in USSR. There was no racism when I was growing up. I witnessed rasism for the 1 time when I was in the UK. It's everywhere!

There was a lot a racism, Russians were bullied and pressured to reject Russian identity. Chechens, Ingush were exiled, radical Western Ukranians killed Eastern Ukranians. So please stop spreading lies. When in Kazakhstan Communist party tried to appoint Russian leader there was an ethnic riot. So all this shit was at expense of Russians and still is.

Interesting to watch your interview. I've been in Russia for 22 years now and when people ask me what my thoughts were on Russia when I arrived, I honestly have forgotten. There are many good points here and America is a different country than when I left it. I mainly enjoy my life here. I will say that it was more dynamic and enjoyable here several years ago as compared to the present.

You know it’s something I’ve said in my channel for months. Before this happened I’ve said it that these larger channels don’t collaborate and it hurts the community because we’ve all got different stories which people can learn from and possibly act.
I Was also a Teenager & obsessed with The Soviet Union as a kid. I remember getting so excited when The Cold War ended. I never would have thought it would happen agan so soon.

And now imagine how surprised the Russians were when, after the end of the Cold War, instead of a New wonderful world on the whole Earth, Russia began to be plundered, destroyed and torn apart by our Western friends and partners.

So many years we thought that US was so interesting country, we ignored advantages of being here. It was a habit after soviet period when we were hungry for simple things like cars, phones, food etc. But we ended up seeing you, guys, who like to live here. And it's aligned with my becoming aware of advantages of living here in Russia and that my motherland is so good. I'm proud of that, thank you for telling about Russia. But US is still interesting place for me, hope to visit it once.
I want the US to also be a good place. Hopefully it will improve in our lifetime.

Нам не требуется делить людей на нации и религия.
Мы разделяем лишь зло и добро.
Такое построение мультикультурности, как вы это назвали, характерно для империи суши. Империя суши присоединяет малые народы, сохраняя их культуру и образ жизни. Запрещаются только совсем дикие традиции вроде каннибализма, многоженства, работорговли. Империя дает защиту, работу и заботу. Но малый народ берет на себя обязательства вступать в защиту общей империи наравне с имперским народом. В нашем случае-с русским. При этом при сохранении традиционного уклада малого народа, его элиты интегрируются в имперские элиты на совершенно равноправных условиях. Любой может вспомнить примеры грузинских князей, генералов, польских генералов русской армии, немецких высших чиновников (тот же Витте). Сейчас самые яркие примеры-это Шойгу, Собянин, Хуснулин, Набиулина. В своем крае малый народ живет по своим порядкам, при этом «дичь» убирается общеимперскими законами- уголовным кодексом, административным и т п. Но когда представитель малого народа выезжает в другой регион, то там он общается и живет по общеимперским законам. То есть русского в нашем случае. Поэтому наш гость ролика так себя хорошо сувствует среди армян, азербайджанцев и бурятов. За предеоами своего традициооного места они живут по общеимперским законам, как и вы. Кроме России сейчас в мире есть еще 2 таких же общества-это Иран и Китай. Построенные на тех же принципах.
Добавлю, что Римская империя и Византийская (наследником которой считается Российская империя) жили по тем же принципам.
А вот сша и Британия-это классические империи моря. Британия, правда, уже в прошлом. Они контролируют не сушу и территории, а пути , смыслы и элиты через ложные смыслы. Им не надо было и сейчас не надо заботиться и присоединять малые страны и народы. А надо наладить контроль за элитами и через них получать ресурсы. Поэтому в сша нет общеимперского смысла. Есть разрозненные группы, элиты сша контролируют глав диаспор, и через них влияют в том числе и на политику в той же Мексике, например. Ну или напрямую подкупают/меняют элиты соседнего государства, начиная получать ресурсы его. При этом забота о населении остается заботой этого государства. И войны идут по тому же принципу. Если сша/британии надо военное решение вопроса, они не воюют сами, своим народом, а страются подчиненное государство/народ через его элиты отправить воевать за себя. Самый яркий пример такого контроля страны-это британская колонизация Индии. Когда британцев там было порядка 60000 чел, но через контроль и подкуп индийских элит контролировалась страна с населением во много раз превосзодящим саму Британию. И в этом британцам , в случае именно с индией, очень помогала кастовая система: держа в руках контроль над главой касты, ты держал контроль и ресурсы этой касты. Конечно, ни о какой интеграции элит подчиненного народа речи не шло и не идет при таком механизме устройства империи. И потому , что нет общеимперского смысла в империях моря и у них нет умения и задачи сохранить малый народ в его первозданности, и идет именно навязывание малым народам культуры и языка сверху, до степени, что народ становится не индейцем или мексиканцем в америке, а просто американцем. Или , наоборот, идет защитная реакция в виде полного огораживания от внешнего воздействия и «американизации». В США тоже пытаются научиться выстраивать отношения внутри страны на принципах империи суши, но выходит пока не очень. То есть присутствуют ее элементы. Равно как и в России/Китае/ Иране присутствуют элементы империи моря-это флот, сми, литература, кино (то есть тоанслирование своих смыслов). И у тех и у других эти элементы вторичны и именно элементы, а не главная стратегия

Жил я за границей, да было хорошо, но это было 20 лет назад, а сейчас там жить невозможно. Я испытал ужас, когда я увидел тысячи людей наркоманов на улицах Сан Франциско и горы мусора. Запад и Европа реально загнивают, а ЛГБТ повестка стала ещё сильней.
И "наши" бизнесмены работают над тем чтобы всё самое "доброе" "светлое" стало возможным и в россии.
Большинство Американцев живет в пригородах тихих. По Сан-Франциско судить. - это как по Нью-Йорку всю остальную Америку.

Траектория нехорошая, поэтому "нью-йорк не америка" не отмазка, и на Нью-Йорке и Сан-Франциско это всё вероятно не остановится. Я тоже это всё видел своими глазами, за прошлые 20 лет и США и Европа скатились нереально.
Думаю, что Государство должно помогать Соотечественникам, которые ещё в СССР оказались в других Республиках(Азиатских, прибалтийских и тд) , и теперь очень хотят жить в России! Они сохранили наши Корни!!!! !!!! Им в первую очередь надо помогать !!!!

России давно нужно пересмотреть свою миграционную политику . Пока что реально мы видим толпы мигрантов из Средней Азии , которых завозят в страну под видом "специалистов" , которые не желают ассимилироваться с обществом , живут анклавами и получают гражданство РФ скорее всего через свои диаспоры (думаю у прокуратуры к этим диаспорам и тому же ФМС должна возникнуть масса вопросов) . И когда смотришь видео , снятое нашими бывшими соотечественниками , пытающимися вернуться в Россию , говорящими на прекрасном русском языке и мигрантами-азиатами , которые по-русски часто двух слов не могут связать , но получают гражданство быстрее остальных --- это вызывает не только удивление ..

I've been using it for a couple years now and am repeating the Russian module for the third time. I can say, I can read it easier than speaking it. I think it's due to me not having anyone to practice it with. But I am determined to learn it. It's something I have wanted to do since I was young and I also want to live in Russia like the two of you. Maybe in a few more years if things go to plan. Great video, guys.

Wow, guys! Both your conversations are so meaningful. I think you, as foreigners, have a unique perspective. Though you live in very very different places in Russia you notice the same things. I’d never have pointed them out because I’m a native. It’s like you see your kids every day and you don’t necessarily notice them grow up an inch or two.) About temperature differences - living in european part of Russia (about thousand kilometers east of Moscow) my whole life, we NEVER get used to it - summers are always "too hot" and winters are always "too cold" for us, with rare exceptions. So, you, guys, are already russians in terms of weather feelings.

There is interesting phenomena called "двор", "выходи во двор в футбол играть".
The Soviet style residential artitecture had squares of 9 story buildings and all kids in that "двор" were like brothers and sisters. I believe that "real friendship" you are describing is coming from that phenomena: you moved in to our "двор", you start playing soccer or hockey with us, so you becoming our brother. (Just hypothesis to investigate by a journalist).
I used to live next to Lumumba University and there were many black guys, sons of diplomats and students of that university. In a few months, they start playing soccer with us, learn few swerting words and they became brothers too. No difference, you just scream to the six floor: "Hei Kassim! Are you coming to play?" I guess that sort of similar to Jewish communities in Odessa, where "двор" was you second family.
Another theory of mental formation is "agricultural tribe" vs. "family tribe". I. Agricultural tribe - anyone who ready to "plant field with us" is our family. These two things might be the reason of that friendship you are describing.

An excellent interview, I periodically watch both channels, an interesting look from the outside at my favorite country! About Baikal and its size - one interesting fact, about 336 rivers flow into the lake, and only one Angara River flows out. So, if you block all the rivers flowing into Lake Baikal, then the water from the lake will flow through the Angara River ... 400 years, the lake is so huge! And I also want to say that Dan has a very open look and a kind sincere face, this is something that we Russians really appreciate! Sincerity is always appreciated and respected in Russia. The different ethnicities that live in Russia have their origins in one of the regions of the same country - Russia. Like, for example, Buriats are native to Buriatia, which is within Russia. And so on. Or nationalities from other former Soviet Republics and live in Russia still feel that they belong. The historic and cultural roots of all these people are with Russia. In the case of the US, different ethnicities have their cultural and historic roots outside the US. Apart from the native Americans. So there's a divide among these communities. That what makes Russians and Americans different.

I live in Scandinavia and 24 C is about my limit. If it is 27 to 30 C or more, I feel sick from the heat. It does not get as cold as Siberia but growling up in the Midwest, I could handle minus 40 F and with wind chills as cold as 120 minus F. ps minus 40 F is the same as minus 40 C. If you afraid of cold weather at winter, then come in March. Baikal usually fully freeze in the end of January, so it's really cold, and strong winds start to blow in February, so in March the sun start to shine warmer, so the ice is pretty thick and the weather is shiny.
I feel like if I go on the ice I should reduce my risk and go when the ice is the thickest.
@@expatamerican3234 it start to melt only in the end of March. I mean if you'll come in June you still would see leftover ice on the coasts. The lake is huge and deep, so it warms up really long time and melts the same.

In Moscow you can buy tortillas(and corn ones too) in most larger supermarkets. A lot of places with Mexican food too. Not sure how genuine it is because I've never been in Mexico or US.
In early 00's we also had burrito stands in metro but honestly those were awful.
