- Ladies and gentlemen, I am extremely proud to present the most ambitious project I have worked on to date. I give you "The Star Spangled Symphony".
I've wanted to do a project based on The "Star Spangled Banner" for a long time, but the challenge was always a bit daunting. With such a deep appreciation for the anthem, if I was going to do a project based on it, I wanted to give it every bit of respect it deserved. That's probably the main reason why it took so long to get off the ground. The final version you see now is the result of me thinking way outside the box. I wanted to take it so far above and beyond anything I've ever worked on before, so I knew going into it that it was going to be a long and tough road. I had plenty of successes and frustrations and redesigns and headaches, and in the end, I am completely thrilled with how it turned out.
Fun facts about the project:
number of years I've wanted to do an anthem project: 4
number of times I went back to the drawing board: 3
computers used: 3
computers that couldn't handle the strain and died: 1
computers purchased: 1
total number of files that make up the project: 332,940
hard drive space used: 382.5 GB
hard drives purchased: 2
hard drives that crashed: 0 (woohoo!!)
total length of footage shot: 3 hours, 10 minutes, 59 seconds
total render time: 1,098 hours, 34 minutes
neon green poster board used for the greenscreen: 43
number of times the greenscreen fell apart: 2
number of days wearing a suit: don't ask
bottles of Excedrin purchased: 4
number of people asking me when the project will be finished: lost count
- - Frequently Asked Questions - -
Why are there no instruments?
--The look that I was going for was "air guitar for the orchestra".
Why are the flags hanging in reverse?
--This seems to be the biggest critique of the video. I honestly did not know there were etiquette rules when hanging the flag. Definitely a lesson learned.
Why don't you have 50 characters for the 50 states?
--Actually, when designing this, I wanted the music itself to be the 50th "character". The 50 states were not ignored.
How many people helped you work on this?
--Zero.
Debut album "Improv" is now available. Check my profile for details. Видеоклипы
being in the US military, its nice to see someone on the home front taking out so much time and putting in so much effort to make old glory shine, thanks alot
It's good to know that there are people who love our country enough to do things like this...awesome work!
great work! im totally speechless. when i saw symphony i thought that there would a bunch of yourselves sitting and playing like the trio, but i'd never thought of the whole standing-air-guitaring-in-boxes. great concept!
You never fail to astound me! That was totally the best i've ever seen. Loved the arrangements as well as all the work you put into it. Looking forward to your next effort!
Bro i just cant stop watching it. ive seen it like 20 times now since its been up! lol.. This is by far the most amazing video on youtube. this has to get you somewhere on here as the best youtuber EVER! lol. PEACE LOVE BROTHER!!!!
Wow. You left something out in your list.
number of viewers moved and inspired: priceless
This is amazing! It turned out beautifully, not only is it fun to watch but also boasts up the beauty of the song. My complements to you Bazzle!
That is, without question, one of the coolest and most creative things I've ever seen! Congratulations!
i am very very VERY impressed. I'm not an American but that screams talent and patriotism. Very well done and you will go far. Don't forget us little ppl when you do.
Wowzers! That was a great composition. In both video and music. Applause for you! *claps*
Flags worn on uniforms look backwards only on the right sleeve. This is supposed to represent the flag going forward into battle, which is why the stars are in the odd position of the viewers' right.
WOW!!
Amazing!!
5 stars, favorited', shared with Facebook, Twitter etc.!
amazing. You sir, are epic.
I had forgotten how much I liked this video. Thanks again! :)
WOW is all that I have to say! Just awesome!
I've played in a band and I had fun guessing which instrument each players were playing. This is truly a magnificent masterpiece and I could really feel your pride for your country.
that was absolutely amazing. I can't believe how awsome that was. I couldn't help but smile as I watched it.
That was epic. Made of awesome, dipped in win-sauce, and smeared with amazing.
Oh my....whoa. As SOON as the camera pulled back and I saw the full scope of this thing I HAD to comment, this is amazing work, and I thought doing something like the Tin Trio would be time consuming, I can only imagine how much effort you put into this! Excellent work!
You was glad to see you win the talent contest today. I like this and the tin trio
Another great piece of work. Keep it up!
I'm speechless. Absolutely amazing. Outstanding!
You´re crazy :D I thought you were after watching "I´m going swimming" (which i totally adore btw) - but this... this is amazing!! Great work!
Actually, I learned the hard way that proper flag etiquette does put the stars on the left side when it's hanging vertically. I just never knew about flag etiquette when I made this. Live and learn. Thanks for the comment. :)
I love that piccolo duet at 3:51.
Excellent sir. Mr. Bazzle, you have a gift.

Sbazzle, WOW, i don't know what else to say. I'm beyond words in awe.
Fabulous!!!!!
that is awesome. great work sbazzle!
I think this video should get alot more views, read the description and how much work he put into it.
wow...amazing!great!
that's ridiculous, man... the amount of effort gone into that doesn't need a "fun facts" list to be appreciated... great job, dude
Truly amazing work!
5/5
Piano, percussion, and Irish whistle are my main instruments. I've probably dabbled in a dozen others.
Very nicely done. Kudos.
so far, this is the best arrangement that i ever heard of The Star Spangled Banner, USA N.A. I like ur National Anthem.. regards from Malaysia..
This is awesome!
i am an aspiring 13-yr old composer
and hearing something like this
is what really inspires you.
Forget the patriotic part (which is a nice touch), this is just overall a great colaberation of video and music. I love how each musician is so well immitated and each has his own little compartment.
One critique:: the ending with the horn gliss feels rushed. but its still by far
THE BEST MUSIC VIDEO ON RUclips!!!
very nice work man keep'em coming
One of the most awesome videos I have ever seen! Absolutely spectacular! I will share on fb, myspace, twitter, etc. BRAVO! (I won't mention flag etiquette - I think you now know :-)
Nicely done!
I love it you played really good I love it
absolutely amazing :D
Wow! that's a huge effort.
crazy, amazing work
This..is beautiful :P It needs to be featured :D
fucking amazing, deffinatly worth the time, effort, and computer memory
RIP computer. without you this video would not have come to be.
hope the whole getting a new one wasn't a big issue for you.
theres alot of work in this clip...congratulations for the goodjob. 5 stars
Amazing
Good job!
Omagad ! wonderful ! O.O
brilliant.
hanging or wearing a flag has many rules but in this case the vertical hang must always have the standart (stars and blue field) on the left. and you are welcome. I enjoy your music very much!
patrick
COOL!!!
This project was started on March 1, 2008, when I started composing the music.
Ha. That is good consolation. I'll take it.
An incredible performance!!! It's amazing! However, l2p is right. You ought to turn the flags around so everything is proper. But once again, incredible incredible work! Thanks and God bless America!
wowowowowowowowo i am so subscribing.
that was really good
My friend, picture the American flag in your head, and then rotate the flag 90 degrees clockwise. You now have an exact copy of what I have on the stage.
Well, I don't know what the PS3 intro sounds like, but the first bit of audio is an orchestra tuning their instruments.
the flag issue can be fixed but the music display give me the chills, this is an AWSOME VIDEO!
I never wanted to compose this in 3/4, because it always felt so rushed in my opinion, even if the tempo was slowed down. Composing in 4/4 also allowed for a longer piece and better transitions into the other melodies.
I just had absolutely no idea there was such a thing as proper flag-hanging etiquette. Not in a million years would I have ever thought about that. It figures. You watch, it'll be something like this that gets everybody all up in arms. My apologies to all.
very very nice
its true, the flag is usually hung the other way, but if its of any consolation, the American flags worn on military uniforms are also backwards
dude...that was awesome...well done. Obviously worth the effort you put into it. did you use a green screen for this?
I have not yet taken the time to finalize the score in a written form. This will happen, but probably not until early next year.
This is brilliant (other than the flag hanging the wrong way of course!)
;-)
Fantastic job, I cant imagine the headaches that went with this.
I do have a question for you Mr.Bazzle, how many instruments do you actually know how to play?
That is your best video ever!!! Amy says you are a modern day Mozart
wow thats amazing this should be featured XP just like ur tin flute video THEY ALL SHOULD BE FEATURED XP
382.5 GB?!?! That's insane! But this was an awesome video, it must have taken forever.
I used Fruity Loops with the Orchestral plugin.
Wow! You pretended to play every part in the orchestra! So cool!
By the way, was that Muse Score you were using for the music?
Very nice job! But...Why did you decide to compose this in 4/4? Was it just easier for it to be in 4/4, I'd imagine you wrote every part. Did you try or consider writing it in 3/4?(Just some food for thought.) It still came out very well.
yep...sorry it took SO long to make this video and have such a critical mistake.
but other than that, it has an awesome musical arrangement.
No, not really. I bought a laptop as a replacement, but made sure it could handle any video editing and effects task I through at it. Always wanted a laptop, so it worked out just fine.
almost as good as the chinese olympics opening ceremony!
OK I GOT ANOTHER FUN FACT QUESTION!!!
how many other ppl worked on this project with you or "helped" you???
p.s. absolutely stunning
cool
I thought i had something to say the guy below me pretty much nailed it
Fuckin awesome man
Guess what time it is?
It's early next year!
Have a score?
"OLD GLORY"
so then how did you compose the music AND get it on a computer? Recording?
Because if you used Sibelius or Finale you would have a score...
Ha. I don't know if there is enough room on here to name them all.
I spent quite a while searching for the name of it when I was making this, but no luck. The one instance I always remember hearing this is at the end of a Bugs Bunny cartoon. Haha.
Anybody else knows the answer to this, let me know.
Yes, made up of 43 sheets of neon green poster board.
oh my memory is so awful... what's the name of the theme that Bazzle is paying homage to at 4:00
But thanks for the etiquette info anyway.
The flags are correct - they're just hanging down instead of horizontal.
However it might be pictured in your head, correct flag etiquette puts the blue field to the left.
what is that sound in the beginning of this? ps3 intro?
why would someone dislike the video
Yes, I wrote the music.
Do you have the score for this?
Great version! I got a video I made if you want me to share.
the union (blue part of the flag) always goes on the left side... im surprised that they screwed this up! its almost as bad as if they put the flag upside down
Maybe you can help increase that number by spreading the word. ;)
I'm sorry but I dont think that that was me :)
Haven't you proposed to me before?? ;)
No instruments. Think of it as air guitar for the orchestra.
