Within the realms of motorcycle road racing there was only one person that didn't realise that Joey Dunlop was a Superstar and that was Joey Dunlop.. RIP King of the Roads🏁🏁🏁🏁
Joey was the most understated sportsman of all time. He didnt seek fame or fortune and was reluctant to embrace it when it came along. His charity work alone was incredible. Each year he'd fill his van full of food and other supplies and head over to the orphanages of Romania. One charity worker described him sitting down with the orphans eating corned beef and baked beans. I dont imagine many other famous sportsmen doing that. Michael may have overtaken him in TT wins, but Joey will always be the King of the Road.
Excellent find and save. Little did anyone at the time realise that Joey was only halfway there (TT wins) RIP Joey, Robert, William and all fallen riders.
He was not just a racer he was a gentleman an honest individual and had a heart of gold hence everyone loved him there are many many heros of sport but not one like this man what a loss I was hoping he would retire and just have the life he should have had teaching others how to be a good person not a racer
I Have Been one of the lucky ones who got to meet Joey Dunlop 1983 Isle Of man TT At the Villa Marina Trophy ceremony Douglas Certain Riders had a Lady on each arm Drinking Champagne and thinking they were all that. When it Came to the Formula One Trophy Which Joey Won he came in at the Last Moment on his own With his Rothmans Honda Jacket on The Place was on its feet. Joey Dunlop Was Just One of Us Normal a top bloke Who Liked a drink Working on his bikes and Being with his Family......Joey We all Miss You so Much Buddy Yer Maun
Never be another Joey dunlop...but there WILL be a Michael dunlop who took uncles titile as king of the mountain. Also cool Johnny Rea's uncle used to sponsor Dunlop. 6:15 that guy had it SOOO WRONG. Funny these ppl thought Joey was done, then in 2000 he came back and won it AGAIN

Thanks for watching. We love seeing these unusual segments that may only have played out on local TV at the time.

To be that good and remain so modest... superhuman just on that count alone.

Glad you enjoyed it
Such a legend and in even bigger gentleman, so down to earth and modest. This video made me very proud and emotional being a northern irish man😊
Well said mate, it was the humility that stood out. Just an ordinary buddy who didn't want any of the limelight.
He’s very Humble man and Fearless that’s rare combination in this world
