Thank you! This was a little stressful because of the time crunch but that made it even more fun to try! Even if we wouldn't have activated it would have still be worth it! 73, Becky es Mike
Thank you for the nice comment. Our goal is to let others know how fun it is and encourage operators to get out there and give it a try!! And if you can’t get to a park that’s okay … have QSO’s or do some hunting! 73, Becky es Mike
Great work Becky excellent activation. Amazing DX into France. Hope Mikes wrists are better. Thought of him yesterday we are on holiday was visiting Bletchley Park home of the code breakers. Also on site is the National Museum for Computering they have a working Colossus built in 1943 they also have many adding machines and type writers. Enjoyed the video did my morning training with you writing the hunter callsigns was great fun. Also wrote down your short message you did whilst in the yard. Have a great weekend both.
Thanks Phil and glad you found the CW Practice message as well! Sounds like an amazing place to visit and learn about code and computers. I'm sure Michael would love seeing the old machines and hopefully they don't sell any of them ... HiHi. We hope to hit a park this weekend if Michael feels up to it 😊 73, Becky es Mike
Thank you! We were a little stressed because of the time, but just made it fun and ohh well if we wouldn't have made it. It would have been fun either way!! 73, Becky es MIke
I just love the format of your videos. Especially how you have the line to the last contact on the map with the name, qth and call displayed. That must be a lot of work but really cool! Great job getting F4ILH. I see him all the time on POTA but still have not gotten him. ☹
Thank you Stu, editing is the hard part but so fun to share! We were definitely surprised to get Jean Baptiste and a fun way to get the 10th contact. We see his alerts but can never hear him either. Glad he could hear us this time!!! 73, Becky es Mike
Amazing job, Mike and Becky!!! Don't mess with Becky on a straight key! 😉 On another note, its a bit weird seeing Mike without his wrists wrapped up. 😂 Hope you're healing well and quickly Mike.
Thank you Shantel. I was trying to send faster, but that was tough! And yes, this was filmed before the infamous bike accident but hopefully we will get back out there soon! Thank you for the healing message, he's ready to be back to normal! 73, Becky es Mike
Great Job in working a French station that is really cool had my very first QSO on CW on V band a couple of days ago and I am hooked. Being ZL makes it slightly difficult to work stations but will keep looking for new stations to work to get both my sending to a better level. I enjoy your sending. I am now going to try and copy what you are sending to increase my ability to copy. I enjoy the content and I am also a member of the LICW club. 73's for now from ZL1BMA.
Thank you, and the France contact was a bonus for sure!! We love hearing DX stations come in when QRP! Great job on the CW work. Best way to practice is to get on the air and VBand is great when circumstances don’t allow for it. 73, Becky es Mike
Thank you for the feedback and glad the format helps! We still struggle with call signs, but definitely the more we get on the air, the easier they come in and we get them faster! 73, Becky es Mike
Thank you, that activation was a lot of fun! We have gotten Jean B in the logs a few times and it's always fun to try to hear him. His signal was quiet and in bit of a pile-up so I think that's what made it difficult this time 😊 73, Becky es Mike
We were actually traveling home from FL and the UTC time zone for end of day hits us at 7PM. We got to the park at 6:30 so we had 30 minutes to try to get in 10 contacts before "end of day" POTA time 😊 It was really just a fun challenge and still would have been fun had we missed the cut-off! 73, Becky es Mike
For us laymen, what is happening? What’s the objective? I off road and just started studying for the HAM technician test and know this is CW, but have no clue what’s happening 😂 What is he doing? What is she doing? What are the folks responding doing? Activator vs Hunter?
Those are some great questions and we are currently working on a video to explain POTA and how to get started. The short version is, POTA is called Parks On The Air and is a way to encourage people to get outdoors and play radio by gamifying it a little. You go to a park to try to make 10 contacts, which they call "activating". It doesn't have to be using CW, but that is what we love and what we do. You can also do it by voice or digital modes. It does need to be one of the parks listed on the POTA webpage. It's a great way to get contacts while outside and portable. You get to post the fact that you are at the park and what frequency (called a spot) on the POTA website. Because other amateur radio people also play from home (called "hunters"), they are looking to see who is at parks who they can contact. From home, or wherever, you can join in the fun by looking for people who are at parks to contact (called "hunting"). The neat thing is that you don't have to do anything other than participate, the activators at the park do the work of submitting the logs. There are RUclips videos that go over the typical exchange. We'll cover it also in our upcoming video. There is a similar program called SOTA which is almost the same thing except a little harder, since you need to go to the top of a summit and typically need to be person-portable (can't operate from your vehicle). More details: POTA: parksontheair.com/index.html SOTA: www.sota.org.uk/ More to come in an upcoming video from us! Thanks for your interest! 73, Mike es Becky

¡Gracias por acompañarnos! Y sí, nos encantan las dos EFHW que usamos, ¡y esta logró llegar a 4500 millas de distancia, hasta Francia! ¡QRP es increíble! 73/72 Becky es Mike (Thank you for joining us! And yes, we love the two EFHW's we use and this one managed to get 4500 miles away to France! QRP is amazing! 73/72 Becky es Mike)
This one was super fun for us having the added pressure of the UTC clock! Regardless of it being successful or not we had a blast and glad you enjoyed it! We hope to get to a park again soon! 73, Becky es Mike
How do you handle time constraints during an activation?
Thanks guys for a fantastic video.

Thank you, it's my comfort key, but just a little harder to send fast when needed 🤣 73, Becky es Mike

😊Thank you, we both are loving CW and the adventures and fun it is creating for us!! 73, Becky es Mike
Great job. That guy from France should have been courteous and either slowed down a bit for you or added some Farnsworth. You did great! 73

Was that 20 meters? I have two of those rigs, one for 20 and one for 40.
Yes, our QCX min is only for 20 meters. We have a QMX on order and are excited to add more bands to our activations! 73, Becky es Mike
