People were calling and texting Rick Fox to see if he was alive. That makes me wonder how many people tried to contact Kobe, hoping he would still be alive to answer.
I know Ice Cube said he texted Kobe once he heard
many upon many
When I heard the news about Kobe, it was first by TMZ. I didn't want to believe it. I was just waiting for Kobe to put out a tweet or something but that never came.
why were there no parachutes on the airplane or safety precautions
@@jmartinez562 They said they flew into the hill at 184 MPH in extremely dense fog.
Not sure how they "knew" about it for 60 seconds?
Kudos to Ernie, and Kenny for pointing out flaws of the media. Thankful Rick Fox is alive. Sad story regardless.
Glad to see Rick Fox
🙏 for real
@B. Chandler Kobe was one of those dudes that you never would have seen in an event like this. I had so much belief in him that even after it was confirmed, I still had some hope thinking that somehow, some way. Kobe would have survived, it's just the person who he was to defy every odd and do the impossible. It's really tragic, and for his daughter to be with him while it happened was absolutely gut wrenching.
@B. Chandler Years?!?!? DECADES!!
@B. Chandler I'm sorry but Michael Jackson's passing impacted more persons, even though Michael played a role in his own death and that it isn't as tragic as Kobe's. MJ was just way more famous. I live in France so I can't tell you that outside of athletes, people barely know Kobe. Everyone know Michael Jackson . Kobe's death on the other hand is more sad and touching on so many levels....It's the first time I cried for someone I didn't know. Pray for Kobe's family.
I am glad he said something
Some dummies online were saying all his children were on board too. All this misinformation really ticked me off!
Leoni Days I actually heard this on ESPN during the pro bowl.
When they first said there was 9 people on bored I thought to myself that I hoped they weren't all on the helicopter because that would be even worse to lose them all. It's terrible losing a few but a complete family would be so much worse. I think people just to fast to jump to saying stuff instead of waiting for information to come out. I just say there reloading everything for more details to come out
ABC/ESPN inadvertently announced his 4 girls were on the helicopter, when I believe they meant that he has 4 girls.
fake news is an extreme problem. TRUMP 2020
Cameron Reed yeah it’s totally better to lose people like 2-3 from multiple families instead of just one...
All the so called reporters who lied and said Rick Fox was on that helicopter need to be fired
not even sure it was reporters but the usual social media bs that pops up when stuff like this happens. people just throw stuff out there and people believe it without question.
nick p it actually wasn’t the reporters, random people on Reddit and other social media comments started a rumor msnbc reported fox was in the helicopter, which they didn’t.
I heard that all of his kids were on the helicopter from the guy on ESPN.
I'm starting to think that when they discovered the bodies that they thought that baseball coach might have been Rick Fox
Incompetence is rampant with high profile jobs I see.
When Kenny broke down 😥😥. That hit me hard 💔💔💔
Ernie right away trying to confort him but also very emotional. At that moment they all were holding their breath trying not to cry. I cried like a baby.
@@GeekHazu definitely noticed that too, this was very emotional. That ending is just 💔
Yeah 5 months later and this all still seems unreal to me. Just watching all these clips and reactions Kobe dying is something that my brain and heart I think can never process. completely. 😧😭💔

Seeing Rick alive and well is just a blessing. First time I've been able to smile in days. For several hours during this ordeal, I also thought he was gone, as well.
Denzel Washington checked a reporter about the media wanting to be first instead of checking facts
Good!👏👏👏👏👏
Can we please get back to humanity!
D O I just got that outta my mouth to a co-worker. I admired him for saying what sane ppl think about all the time. Denzel's the truth!!! I wish this was made up tho. RIP KOBE!!
YES!!!!!!!!
I hope that got the equalizer
RIP to Kobe and his beautiful daughter Gigi. My heart hurts.
people like to overlook Kenny Smith, because he wasnt Barkley or Shaq, but after watching this you cant say that Kenny Smith isn't a real dude! Props to #30
I never knew Kenny and Rick Fox were that close. Rick said Kenny "raised him." I remember watching Rick Fox back in his North Carolina days all the way thru the Boston Celtics and Lakers championship 3-peat run. Considering the irresponsible reporting, I'm not shocked that Kenny pretty much "lost it" during this segment, and broke down crying. Had to be agonizing for him not knowing whether Rick was alive or not.
It's not really important, but I have to say Kenny Smith is not overlooked. He is well respected on that show and has segments breaking down plays all by himself.
@@MichaelBrown-ti1un Kenny Smith was a senior on the team when Rick came to UNC as a freshman. Rick mentions his best friend King Rice who was also a freshman on that team. Kenny was their official team mentor along with Scott Williams who used the play for the Bulls. I was a student volunteer for the women's basketball team so that's the only reason I know this info. They have always been really close since school. Also a big reason why Rick was recurring on the Game that Kenny produces.
It's a sad thing of course, but to lighten the situation, when Rick said "you raised me man" the way Shaq looked at Rick was pretty funny lol
Kenny is always respected. He's the OG Jet.
who are "people" lol, nobody overlooks him.
This entire series is a beautiful way to honor Kobe. Thank all of you for sharing these moments. What a class group of friends. May you Gentlemen eventually find peace.
Thankful you’re still alive, Rick.
I hate the fact that the news was broken before the family was notified about what happened
TheAznboi17 the sheriff in the press conference pretty much lambasted the media, almost called out TMZ directly.
Me too! That’s so disgusting, disrespectful and wildly inappropriate.
@@imallfordabulls They should be lambasting whoever it was (maybe somebody in their department?) that leaked the information to the media
*They have a petition to get rid of TMZ and I signed that thing w/o hesitation! I hate sites like TMZ and mediatakeout*
TMZ came out and said Kobe’s representatives is the ones that told them so the family knew already.
Crazy what media done to Rick Fox, all these call to know if he is still alive must be hard to live, and for his family...And the loss of Kobe. Must be a hard moment for him too...
Kobe had so much impact in a lot of people lives, that what we call a legend! RIP Kobe
“Irresponsible” to say the LEAST... in many regards, an understatement 😔

Someone deserves to be sued. I didn’t see initial stories that Rick was on the flight, but I did see clarification in later articles that the rumors weren’t true. Sunday was just too much.
Travious Mitchell mistakes happen
Jonathan schaefer that’s a mistake?
Travious Mitchell yeah. I mean he will prob sue but I’d just be glad to be alive and incredibly handsome
Jonathan schaefer haha yeah that’s true but that’s a bit extreme for a mistake. And I don’t mean literallly sue, just that the emotional distress people were put in on top of hearing about Kobe and the others is just too much
Sue for what?
I was never a huge Rick Fox fan, but I am very happy to see his face in this video.
RIP KOBE AND EVERYONE WHO DIED ON THE HELICOPTER 😪
The race to be first in telling a story ugh Kenny so right a world in mourning
Kenny's reaction
My heart broke for Kenny when he started crying. I couldn't imagine being in his shoes when he finds out Kobe is gone and that Rick, his good friend, may have been on the helicopter as well. And the guilt he must've felt when he was so happy he knew Rick was okay, yet knowing Kobe was still gone.
The media should be ashamed of themselves with the way they handled the information about this tragedy. They owe the Fox family a major and sincere apology.
Fox's earpiece went out 3 times, one for each time he won a ring with Kobe.
that was kobe just messing with his boy one more time

I would like to know where this story came from. I spent about the first hour thinking Kobe and Rick Fox were both dead.
So sad to see misinformation spread online. It sounds like it really affected Rick in a situation that was hard enough for him already losing a friend. We all must work to double check information that we re-post online!
Got a lot of respect for Rick Fox, both for his NBA career, his media career and his involvement with e-sports/LoL - super awesome guy. Really rough time for him and his family.
How sad it was to hear the news about KOBE. His NBA. Stardom will forever be remembered.
Kobe's death effected me big time. We share the same birthday of August 23 1978. He was born at 5pm, I was born at 5:15 pm. This was really hard for me to watch. Still can't believe he's gone
Kenny had me bawling like a new born toddler

I have unimaginable respect for these men right now.....

Right. I'm done after this. I'm bout to stay off RUclips and not even watch t.v for a few days until this fades away cuz the reminders are just becoming too much
Words cannot express our gratitude to you legends for airing yourselves during this dark time. You're helping us all heal more than you know. Deepest condolences to everybody...

Thx! Kobe for being a great inspiration for all age groups. U are the Goat in my age bracket. My condolence goes out to your family and everyone else that was on the helicopter. Kobe is legendary forever. R.I.P.
There was so much inaccurate reporting that the emotional rollercoaster attached kept many people from being able to properly grieve the enormity of the actual tragedy.
My prayers go out to the families of all 9 souls lost in that tragic accident and I hope that those who were erroneously added have received some sort of apology so they can go through the necessary mourning process without distraction.
This has put some important things into perspective for me. It’s much more beneficial to hold a conversation than it is to hold a grudge. RIP Mamba, Mambacita, Altobelli Family, Christina Mauser, Sarah & Payton Chester, and Ara Zobayan... 🙏🏾
Don't really want to comment but it's nice seeing the actual love people have for each other.
Still very heavy - thanks for the memories Mamba. Rick, Bless up..
Rick Fox People will never take life for granted again, ever!

Michael Gray at one point everyone does because we are creatures of routine and assume status quo, maybe not this mate in his life but at some point all humans took their life for granted!!!!

I can only imagine the roller coaster of emotions Kenny have been feeling. Thankfully Rick Fox is ok
Such a sad situation yet so good to see men willing to share their emotions...especially former athletes who are known for toughness.
Rick got a look into what it would be like AFTER a tragedy happens...he experienced ppls reaction...its so deep....I'm sure he is TRAUMATIZED
This was so powerful and painful, these guys are amazing.
Shaq and Ernie turning in disbelief when Rick Fox said Kenny raised him

I was just watching OZ. Glad to see Rick alive and well hope he can heal from this pain one day
Have to review this occasionally to remember. And to remember to not take your loved ones for granted.
And this is why Kenny Smith is my favorite out of the three of them. (Ernie fills a different roll, so I excluded him)
Rick was once married to his own Vanessa( Williams) himself :(..hearing youre deceased on social media has gotta be one of the roughest things ever
Relieved to see Rick is alive and somewhat well!
I never saw or heard about Rick Fox being on the helicopter but I did see some dumb news station report that all of Kobe's daughter were on the helicopter.

@@urgirl8288 think about it, even shaq a superstar also said he thought rick rox and his daughters were also on the heli. Who is telling us these lies, unless they were leaked. Unless they were true. I don't believe weather conditions killed Kobe, as a pilot wouldn't u prepare for the course you're about to fly. Especially with a superstar on board. I still can’t figure how Rick fox even entered the story. When I heard Kobe was gone and there were four others I hoped none of his family were with him. When the police came out and said the number was 9 I knew without knowing we probably lost another member of the Bryant family. It just made sense that his kids or his wife would be with him. I just never understood how they got Rick fox involved in all this.
Wow! Broken heart.
They deserve an apology
GREG POPAPILL II Whats they going to do
I’ve always loved TNT NBA
I just cried my heart out
Just want to throw my personal experience out there. I worked at a grocery store when I was like 15, the typical little cart 🛒 collector position that has you in the parking lot pretty much the entire shift. Chick-fil-A shares the parking lot with the grocery store so I would see Kenny coming and going all the time. Picking up food before going to the ymca or running quick errands with his kids. That man was the exact same every time I saw him. If you ever saw him at the ymca he would play ball with whoever. There was like 2 or 3 straight summers that Kenny Smith, Cynthia cooper from the WNBA Comets and Master P would be at that ymca hooping. This was back in the day during the Master P No Limit period when they were huge And master P had finished playing in the nba. All of them were so laid back. Amazing people and something I’ll remember for ever
TMZ should have never released who died before the family’s Were contacted that was really unprofessional/ messed up. but then again it’s TMZ, what do you expect from... they report on what the Kardashians had for lunch like it’s breaking news.
Does anyone know how Rick Fox’s name even came up in the rumors?
Fox looks like a musical composer
Right! Sitting up there looking like Mozart!
Not understanding the “Thumbs Down” to this vid.
Still cannot believe he’s gone. Still feel that he is young and shining like a super star, still think of he would come out say something.
I wasn't the biggest fan of Kobe's game but one thing I know about Kobe Bryant is that he never quit he had an incredible work ethic and a high iq and is very well respected by the old school and the new school and the future he was and always will be a Hooper he loved the game like no one else and showed loyalty to one of the biggest markets in history and I also know that Kobe wouldn't want us all down and sad he would pick up a ball and just hoop...and keep it moving rest in Paradise to the family to Kobe and gigi
The problem with media outlets when a tragedy first happens, they're all in competition to get the news out first, so they report what they're told by someone rather than checking it out first. These days you never get a straight story until the day after something big happens.
I LIVE IN TAMPA FLORIDA AND HEARD RICK FOX WAS ON THE PLANE TOO....
The saddest thing is those kids. They still had a so much more life. Kobe had lived a full but short life. I'm sure he be thinking the same thing. Me but not my little girl lord.
But their both together waiting one day for the rest to come home.
@ Ken,...so true,.........I thought the same thing, him saying "take me but not my baby", I just thought about it as I spoke to one of my daughters, and that's what I would have said. I've lived, ......though not long, I'd embrace death if it meant saving my daughter(s).
Where can I watch the entire episode?
i've never been to a ceremony for the staples center to show off the statues of Dela hoya, gretzky, or Magic, but i promise myself i'll be there when Kobe's statue is revealed to us. it will be another sad day but a joyous celebration. Kobe would want us to celebrate that day, along with his family. I hope his Statue is bigger, than all. we grew up with him and got to see him retire.
TMZ should be ashamed of themselves, messing with people's emotions. That ain't right!!
TMZ never reported that Rick Fox was on there (that was social media rumors). Never reported about Kobe's other children (that was ABC). TMZ reported everything accurately. They claim they had Kobe's family's permission to publish the story, though I haven't seen any confirmation outside of their own word.

Agreed, the media calls it a "get". The proper officials should be the ones to make sure the family members have been notified first, and they should do it before any news goes public.
