It had to be an exciting time for the guys here so young and being able to have this bond being friends and band members ! Band practices and gigs! ⚡️space ace Ron⚡️
He takes a very basic G-D-C chord structure and makes it phenomanal !!! His vocal sound is IMO better than Paul Rodgers . The Photos are heartwrenching .
His tone and his attitude come together perfectly here. Being young he really had the sweetest vocal range as far as sounding in the pocket. It’s not easy carrying a note. He has no problem here.
Breaks me up to see this..oh so young..and they had it..they did...am just mesmerized at how they sound..a beauty In sound, pure. and a hopefulness and AC. Before drugs. Ronnie. Would be dead in 8 years..how could that be...but what a run..what a lasting influence...The music is still alive. And for that I am grateful...to visit here,, and share a memory or two. Thanks to Trav, again...like that song says.."I could have missed the pain, but I would have had to miss the dance"...the beginnings of greatness, Cohesive...concise..with music guiding them.. Pushing and pulling...finding her way. Like she does...unexpected..Simple. Beautiful. Spinning hopes and dreams..that muse...music..was not disappointed. She knew. And, How grateful I am.
Here it is 2023 and all of the original members are all gone. They're all in Rock and Roll Heaven. So if you would could you please play it pretty one more time so we can hear you down on earth. Long Live Lynyrd Skynyrd. You might be gone but never will you ever be forgotten.
I’m just now discovering this song at 56, and several of my friends, hard core Skynard fans, never heard it either. I hope some more like this come out, love these photos too
They were literally children in these pictures. Damn ! Makes the knowledge of what they'd eventually go thru all the more harsh. I wonder if someone had told them in 1969 "Hey, if you get regular jobs you'll have long happy lives. But if you do music you'll be at the top, but it'll be over before most of you are even 30 yrs old", would they still do it. Would Ronnie if he knew he was gonna die like he did ? Their entire history is tragic. But all that pain and tragedy gave us music that will last the ages. Classical depts. at colleges will teach Freebird in another 100 years. Every working class White Boy from then till now can relate to every single song Ronnie ever wrote. And we thank you Brother. Thank you for singing to us, about us and for us. RIP
This is one of those songs that sticks to your memory. If it wasn't for this song Ed King would've never joined Lynyrd Skynyrd. Ronnie played this song for him and Ed was hooked. He said that he knew this group had what it took for greatness. He was right only staying with them for a couple of years and left then enter stage left Steve Gaines and the rest was history. If it wasn't for the plane crash what could've really happened to these guys but we'll never know. We got robbed of greatness Long Live Lynyrd Skynyrd. Gone but never forgotten
Deb, you know you can buy this on cd, right? The short and long versions of this and Michelle were released on Collectybles. Who plays a 45 record to hear a song like this?
This is the song..Ron an the boys invited Ed,King down to the place they were playing. As he kept telling them work more on your own songs...Well Ed always said I was feeling it, And hearing it with these guys..Especially Ronnie...Lynard Skynard, rising❤
Very sad for me cause they are my favorite band of all time period and being from North Florida i relate to there music and how they was raised cause i was raised the same way hard work in the Florida sun in the swamp tossing 🍉 melons bailing hay picking fruit cotton tabboco fishing in the swaunee river and swimming in the springs
Awesome awesome song Love the photos (I remember some from inside record sleeve the first and last) thanks again Trav ! Everything you post is Gold !✌️🐾JF
Oh My God, I have never, ever, ever seen a lot of thes photos. You must be somebody close to the band. Excellent, excellent photos. It's a great song too. I love the longer version too.
Hearing ABB's 1969 eponymous album changed the direction for Lynyrd Skynyrd. They left this sixties rock behind and followed the ABB into southern Rock.
nor true!! Ronnie Allen and Gary never wanted to be associated with southern rock, Ronnie said it many times. "southern rock is a dead label.skynyrd is a rock'n'roll band" ronnie van zant , and from the very start , they chose not to tour with ABB for that reason, it is the tribute band who is now southern rock,
The truth is that R&R, at that time, had ceased to exist 10 years ago, and I dare say that it is unrepeatable and perfect. Although if it weren't for the demarcation line, we wouldn't have seen so many different proposals trying to evoke that genre. If I had to give an opinion, I would say that even if Ronnie didn't want it, the Dixieland influences absorbed by the band are very pronounced and consciously compacted, under a refreshing layer of melodic heavy rock. Although more than just imitating the ALLMAN BROS, perhaps with a couple of listens to Buffalo Springfield, Gram Parson, CCR, Lonnie Mack or Byrds, who were in love with the spiritual side of the U.S.A., it is enough to become a fan and imitator of these influences. . Even if some of them aren't southerners. Probably many artists prefer to see this as a terrain without stylistic and trivial self-management. So what Ronnie was saying is understandable.
@@travnugara4544If this is from 1968, as several sources say, I personally listen to tons of Neyl Young in the interpretive heart, which they eventually turned into AOR. And you can call me a liar, but a large part of Lynyrd Skynyrd's identity is already appreciably defined in this first single, they just hardened their style a little... I dare say they even made it more bluesy. I agree with the influence of Free 🤔 but if I remember correctly, Kussoff and Rogers began to play the "hard rock anthem" style that many bands refer to after the 60s. Although his best work in general is found in "Tons On Sobs" (full of electric blues) I understand that "All Right Now" marked the way for many. Indeed, this apparent hardening must have occurred around 1971.
You and I both know that Lynyrd Skynyrd was spelled different in the beginning. But most fans probably don't know. My point is unless you change your title to the more popular spelling, a lot of people aren't going to get to see this and the YT search doesn't recognize the first spelling as popular or common. I really like this and it's at the top of my Skynyrd and More playlist.
Amazing melody and lyrics. It makes you wonder how record companies could have had any doubt as to their upside potential, right? The strings were a bad touch though. I like the box set version with those removed.
When this demo was cut on Shade Tree Records , they actually spelled it Lynard Skynard my friend , just like he has it . My Grandmother always said , keep your mouth shut and be assumed a fool , or open it and remove all doubt ✌️✌️✌️

Out of all of Skynyrds great songs , this one here has always been my favorite of them all.
Hope the people who saw them in a gym for $2 realize how lucky they were
True story!

I’m hardly a few years older than this great music and to me it still holds water today! Real music for real people and musicians alike❤
This song is the base of all the innocence southern rock movement that came after
This song has a really cool like fast and slow tempo kind of throws you off for a second and Ronnie’s voice sounds incredible on this
His voice is sooooo southern rock hard to believe there’s only one original member alive
What a band the best band ever
Southern rules! There will never be another Lynyrd Skynyrd. R.I.P. to the fallen members.
THE ACTUAL SPELLING OF LYNARD SKYNARD FROM THE EARLY DAYS!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Everything has the rise and fall and they done so many good songs it might have been very difficult.
Ronnie's vocals in need all my friends always gets me. "My throat is raw from singing the blues..."

That place is hell House which was located on Peters Creek in Clay county Florida.
It’s cool to see Allen Collin’s playing a Les paul in those early pics, you don’t see that very much,
The greatest from day 1
Love it
Funny how "Need all my friends to talk to" turned into "Don't ask me no questions" ...lol
Oh please... Not even close.
I heard this song many times and that’s the first time I heard the orchestra in the back. This must be the very first actual recording ( single)

Free changed SKynyrd more than any other band, Bob Burns said that,
between 1969 and 1971 synyrd were a blues band
