Akane Hirose is the Queen of the double bass drum. She keeps her kit simple, yet can still serve up a performance near Neal Peart level, constantly altering to best serve the song. Pure percussion genius. On 'Unseen World" they released two version of the song 'Giovanni', one with and one without vocals. Listening to the instrumental version, one can't imagine how anyone could write a vocal track, and yet Kanami wrote one and Miku wrote lyrics for it. Both versions are awesome and the piece stylistically explores all over the place: it is a truly unique song that you'll only hear from Band-Maid. BTW: Kanami truly outdid herself on 'From Now On', providing Akane, Misa, and Miku opportunities to shine while she poured herself out. This is what makes Band-Maid great.
They announced that Shibuya Eggman Live, the final pre-live performance of the US tour in Japan, will be distributed exclusively to fans for a fee. Among them is Giovanni live performance. We can watch 21 live songs for $20 for a month. Of course, there is also from now on.
With no language barriers, music instrumentals bring our world together for those all to short moments in time, as Band-Maid knows and brilliantly executes here. "PLAY" was originally written as an instrumental but Saiki liked it so much she had Miku write lyrics for it, it would have been another epic instrumental as can be witnessed in their official LIVE Feb 14th 2020 concert version. Listen to that intro and you can see where it WAS heading. To me, lyrics are what musicians trip over to get to their instruments. Have a Merry Christmas!

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 I witnessed this song performed flawlessly in B-M's pre-US concert in Tokyo and dropped my jaw 😲. I believe so did many of American audience at 12 venues. This song has been normally played in the middle of the setlist to give Saiki some break. Most of the audience at B-M's one-man (or one-person) concerts had, of course, already known their skills and talents. They played this song, however, as opening at three festivals (Download Japan / Summer Sonic, Japan and Aftershock, USA) and in Guns N' Roses concert in Japan as support to the legendary band. Yeah! they showed off their skills and talents to the audience who knew nothing about the girls in maid outfit on the stage. I felt as if I heard them screaming "Hey guys! Listen to us and open your eyes wide! We are not the persons that you think ! Salute us!" 😄

Honestly Akane double bass work has been great for a while. To me they've been flirting with a Metal edge to some of their songs for a quite a while. One thing that is weird to my perspective since I grew up in the 80's is that bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and such are defined as Metal, but now it seem people to associate the term Metal to the extreme forms of it that developed in the last few decades, likely now those bands would be defined as Hard Rock to today's standards. To me Band-Maid if they came out 40 years ago would be a Metal Band, just from the speed and heaviness of the majority of their songs.
No doubt tempos have increased over the years Stuff I grew up with in the late 60's. and early 70"s would be slow to medium speed by Band Maid standards. But Band Maid has managed to maintain the melodic aspect that I think is a big part of music I get drawn towards. Their songs are not random, disconnected segments.
@@DAVID-io9nj I mean Metal doesn't necessarily need to be random or disconnected segments. Look at Iron Maiden, most of there songs are really melodic, with segments that flow together well. They mix in punk, blues and other genres much like Band-Maid. Yet they are considered a Metal band and was one of the key players in the new wave of British heavy metal.
Roy, I agree with you but listening to the hair metal of the 80s like skid row and ratt who were considered metal to me growing up are just 80s classic rock bands at this point. Rock and roll with the Beatles! I think music evolves and genres change due to the generation of musicians and listeners. Metalcore and deathcore are still new genres but society has grown to label everything with the intent of being different. When I heard Electric Callboy people were calling it Partycore my reaction to this was band labeling is getting ridiculous. The labeling in my opinion comes from metalheads who want to branch off into different labels when their point of view is no longer the minority because it became to popular.
Yeah great points, I have no love of the glam era with metal and I can see why people would want to relabel things in that case. I guess it is what is, It was just a funny observation I've had since following some of these new artists on YT.
Akane uses double bass a lot. She just doesn’t do it as persistently throughout a song like other drummers. Akane is more creative and judicious with her double bass. In some songs like Sense, she goes back and forth between toe and heel technique and double bass. Look for a live version of Moratorium if you want some serious Akane double bass. A recent fancam from Vladimir or Dicodec should be fine
I love Misa's bass line on this. She's driving it so well with a perfect tone and phrases. Heavy and groovy. Specially, right at the beginning, she's adding such an incredible intense feel to it, besides Akane's double kicking and Kanami's crazy riffs. Anyway, thanks for sharing!
*From Now On* is the apotheosis of an awesome year for these magnificent ladies. They bestowed on us Maidiacs stupendous new songs and their live performances in the US turned - as far as I can gather from the footage - every venue into an "isle of joy". And yet - although they have already reached such an incredibly high level - I'm convinced that the best is still to come. What a phenomenal band they are!!
From "Thrill" to "From Now On" tells a story. When I first heard "From Now On" I had to remind myself to breath. When Band-Maid shot "Thrill", the song was a B-side for the "Ai to Jōnetsu no Matador" single and their record label had sent them to shoot a video for 'Ai to Jōnetsu no Matador'. The girls weren't excited about that song, they all liked 'Thrill', and they decided they would rather shoot a video for 'Thrill" instead. What they didn't know was that their label had decided to drop them, their management were going to dissolve the band and try to sell Miku and Saiki as a "Singing, dancing Maids" idol group, but because the MV was already contracted, scheduled, and paid for they went ahead with the shoot. When the video went viral in America and Europe, management reconsidered and signed them to new recording contract. Seven years later they produce "From Now On". There are rumors that Miku Kobato's lyrics for the song "I Still Seek Revenge" may be based in part on this story. Fun Fact: at the time they shot the 'Thrill' video, Miku barely knew how to play guitar and Kanami Tono was patiently instructing her. Obviously, Miku has improved quite a bit since then!

Akane has been a full on double kick for atleast 6 years now (willing to be corrected on that) she upgraded her skill level and mastered it similar to how misa upgraded her insane ability on the bass even more so when she upgraded to the 5 string over her start point of 4. they have all upgraded their skills in some form or fashion over the years.
Interesting; you went from their very first music video to their latest. The whiplash... lol And welcome to the rabbit hole. They have soooo much good music and we get to see you discover and explore more. Have fun!
This is what Band-Maid is to me: A great band that can't write a bad song. It has never happened and it will never happen. They are absolutely incredible. If you ask me about a song that shows what Band-Maid is. Will I say YOLO. It's from the single with the same name and contains 3 songs plus an instrumental version of YOLO: YOLO, Unfair Game, Matchless GUM and YOLO (Instrumental). I can honestly say that single is my dearest possession I have.
YOLO is as good a choice as any number of other. I have read that YOLO is from a concept Kanami wrote before joining Band Maid. To me, really reinforces the importance of her song writing.
Akane use a lot of double bass. She started using it in Thrill in small spurts, but now she incorporates them very often in the most tasteful ways. Rinne, Play (sustained, triplets, you name it!) and Moratorium are some notable songs where she incorporates sustained double bass.
That was a great reaction - you so clearly really enjoyed it :) Ive never heard a vocalised cover of this no. Maybe they will do one themselves? Its not likely but not impossible- play started life as an instrumental and got lyrics- they also do instrumental versions of many songs- maybe they'll end up doing a singing version of some songs too. p.s You mention liking the groove of onset- try listening to the music video version of Manners- its a lot slower paced than onset but its their grooviest song i think :)
Good job!. 3:00 Where is Band Maid right now? Well, these girls are like the Uncertainty Principle in quantum physics. You never really know what they're going to pull out of the hat. Expect the unexpected. If you want to start 2023 with an interesting overview of the wide amount of music they cover, you can try the Manners - Black Hole combo, official live video on their YT channel.
Bubbling enthusiasm always nice to witness. 5 interesting women, who from what I understand to some extent are the opposite of their stage persona, according to the members themselves. Saiki is warm and caring about the other members. Miku a thinker with a darker bottom. Misa, along with Akane, the goofballs of the band and the one who started making daring jokes before gigs. Kanami can get so angry that she slams her fist into the wall. Akane the most normal of them, and well organized. That does not make them less interesting, both as musicians and women. On the contrary. Of course, what I have written are only small glimpses of them, they are so much more. Happy New Year
i can see u havn`t seen "black hole" with our girls ;) thats an insane speed they keep in it, and im pretty sure u as a drumme would love it.. :) a good advise go find and watch it, im sure u will not regret ;)
Killer, if you want a Band-Maid “instrumental” with lyrics, than you need to hear the song “Giovanni” off the 2021 Unseen World album. “Giovanni” is so epic that they did a instrumental only version MV on a bonus dvd/Blu-ray They have done that on several other songs of theirs and/or they release them exclusively on their Band-Maid Prime Streaming Site. They put individual focus videos on their showing each musician playing their individual parts to various songs. They put out a lot of content that way 😀🤘🏼🎶🎸🔥✌🏼 But “Giovanni” - that’s what you’re looking for - trust me 😀✌🏼
Now you HAVE to do to the " Manners / Black Hole " double header to continue the journey . ......As Miku would say , ' you have no choice - you MUST join in ! '
You need to do more BAND-MAID. If you like the more Metal influenced BAND-MAID stuff check out 'Different' and 'Black Hole', as well as 'Rinne', that was is straight up Thrash! Talk about Double bass! It will melt your face off! But to really appreciate Akane & MISA you need to ditch the earbud and get a decent pair of Headphones for Christmas.
T Zero thanks for the recommendations! I wanted to ask you if you had any experience with IEMs? In ear monitors? I have been looking up a few of them and wanted to know which one would sound best for metal music in particularly.
It's ok, BAND-MAID song titles lend themselves to puns. I know I have been guilty, and so have many others. Maybe we should put a Moratorium on BAND-MAID puns (Gary).😀
I'd like to Caveat that. I don't want BM to lay down vocals on this because then it just becomes another BM song and not the perfect instrumental that it is. But I've been watching a lot of OST vocal covers and I think I'd like to see how someone would interpret what the lyrics should be maybe different style of vocals on it. I think it would be fun.

I hope for April Fools Day they release a terrible song and prank us all
YOLO is as good a choice as any number of other. I have read that YOLO is from a concept Kanami wrote before joining Band Maid. To me, really reinforces the importance of her song writing.
Unfair Game is such an incredible, underrated song.
♥ these gals!
Akane use a lot of double bass. She started using it in Thrill in small spurts, but now she incorporates them very often in the most tasteful ways. Rinne, Play (sustained, triplets, you name it!) and Moratorium are some notable songs where she incorporates sustained double bass.
When Akane raises a stick to the sky it's time to buckle up.
It was even better live.
amen. think they played Onset & this back to back at several concerts. Seen them play them that way in Philly. Crowd went nuts!
@@Bekka_Noyb
They did it in DC also.
I discovered them in 2015. fav band since
Thanks Killer! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Thank you and you as well!
That was a great reaction - you so clearly really enjoyed it :)
Ive never heard a vocalised cover of this no.
Thank you! and yes I will definitely check out Manners!
FYI - Their song Play was originally an instrumental piece, but Saiki asked Miku to add lyrics to it. Thus that's the version we have today for Play.
This does not needs vocals. Perfection as is.
My thoughts before you pressed play: you are not ready for this...
3 minutes of magic......
Happy New Year
Happy New Year to you as well!
MISA MISA MISA!!!!!
It's like flying,FAST
05:11 oh yeah, Misa's going to get her time on this track
Hi Killer. I'm still gonna nag you about their song 'Domination'. Live of course 😎🤘
Kanani blew this out the water !!!
Don't apologize to repeat awesomness. Please react to their acoustic versions, a different kind of awesomeness.
i can see u havn`t seen "black hole" with our girls ;) thats an insane speed they keep in it, and im pretty sure u as a drumme would love it.. :) a good advise go find and watch it, im sure u will not regret ;)
Thank you! Will do!
Killer, if you want a Band-Maid “instrumental” with lyrics, than you need to hear the song “Giovanni” off the 2021 Unseen World album.
“Giovanni” is so epic that they did a instrumental only version MV on a bonus dvd/Blu-ray
They have done that on several other songs of theirs and/or they release them exclusively on their Band-Maid Prime Streaming Site.
They put individual focus videos on their showing each musician playing their individual parts to various songs. They put out a lot of content that way 😀🤘🏼🎶🎸🔥✌🏼
But “Giovanni” - that’s what you’re looking for - trust me 😀✌🏼
They did the same originally with "Conqueror."
Now you HAVE to do to the " Manners / Black Hole " double header to continue the journey . ......As Miku would say , ' you have no choice - you MUST join in ! '
Yes!
Have you seen the Genshin Impact concert video yet? It's worth a listen. "Dawn Winery theme Band-Maid"
I haven't but I'll be sure to add it to the list!
😁
It's ok, BAND-MAID song titles lend themselves to puns. I know I have been guilty, and so have many others. Maybe we should put a Moratorium on BAND-MAID puns (Gary).😀
I will try to curtail my use of puns from now on.
I would use them in my everyday life.
I don’t understand why people want vocals for this.
It is human to want more of anything that is great. There would be no demand if their songs was bad.
@@DAVID-io9nj
But it’s a perfect instrumental.
@@Killermcknight
If you watch “Play”, that was originally an instrumental that Saiki asked Miku to write lyrics for because she liked it so much.
@@powbobs That's awesome! Play has been recommended a bunch to me and I've been like a kid in math class writing down the assignment!
