- Comp Cams Thumpr 279 on Stock 350 SBC - Chev C10. Before and After. Video is to show sound difference. All specs in the video. I watched so many videos like this when making my decision. Thought I would make my own once the job was done.
That was a huge change. Not sure I would have gone that far, but hope you're enjoying it!
You're going to like that setup. I've had that same cam in my '77 Vette for 10 years and everyone thinks my 350 is a big block because of how nasty the cam sounds. Just put side pipes on it a couple weeks ago and it really chops now, haha.
I have a '78 vette that I want to cam.
I'm looking at putting this cam in my 76 but never done one on it before, did the spring have to be changed and did u manage to put it in with the motor still in the vette?
Try cherry bombs in it
Lol who thinks it's a big block, and what nasty cam 😆 🤣 😂 those are tiny tiny tiny cam specs , entry level
Tight lobe separation!
That was an astounding amount of improvement
Sounds awesome! I love the sound of a 350 with a good cam
This just made my day. Definitely putting this in my 81 c10
That's exactly what I wanted to know. Great video. And a very nice sounding truck.
Beautiful truck sounds amazing
First off Gorgeous Truck,sounds amazing.
Part 2 vid now uploaded. Bit more of the cam than the first vid.
Very nice , how does it preform with stock converter? Beautiful truck , killer sound . Keep up the good work
great video.im in the process of deciding which cam to put in my 305.i really like the sound..thanks
Looks and sounds great. Even a smaller stall like 2,400-2,600 would lessen that jolt when you put it in gear and would surely help with the initial hit of the gas.
You mean a higher stall
@@georgealmeida7382 No. He has a stock torque converter so I was recommending an after market performance converter with what is considered a smaller stall like a 11 inch conv with 2,400 - 2,600. Nothing too wild.
Sounds great, How is it on the road? Any vacuum problems for brakes?
Looks great bud, nice little chop from that cam, makes it sound like it wants to party
Your truck sounds a million times better after the cam install. Nice
Part 2 vid now uploaded. Bit more of the cam than the first vid.
Trying to figure out the motor for my 64 C10 so this has me way to excited
Great V-8 sound! Cheers, dude!😁👍🔧🛠️
Great looking truck
A higher stall would help your truck so much! Its a plus not a minus.
Not a fan of those cams at all but no negative stuff coming from here. Super clean ride
sounds great! what mufflers you running?
Nice truck dude i got 1980 c10 with 78 front clip shes sweet
I like a little less noise but to each his own.
I've got a 48 pickup with a 350 and a mutual thumper cam. That with the 3 inch exhaust and super 40s sounds mean.
Beautiful truck, sounds great!
Good video Steve, very informative!
Im putting a comp Cams Big Mutha Thumpr Retro-Fit Hydraulic Roller Camshaft and Lifter Kit Lift: .533"/.519"
This weekend on my 82 c10😊😊 they might divorced me after that thanks to u..but as long as i keep the truck she can keep the cats 😂😂
That sounds great, 👍😃 awesome video right to the point.
Farkin sick Cambo!
Sounds great in that sweet pickup Steve!
Did you notice any difference in power after the swap?
@@msh6865 I think so. Might be wishful thinking though and sound perception, but it feels a little more torquey and quicker response. It's a very mild engine though, only low 200's on the dyno.
You need a stall converter really bad. It would definitely help that idle when in gear probably about a 2800 stall converter would work
Awesome truck mate, fellow Aussie here, sounds amazing, I’ve ordered a mutha thumpr kit from the states, I’ve got a mild 350 in a HJ ute, how’d you go running in the cam? Did you use the dual valve springs supplied in the kit or something lighter then change over to the comp cams ones?
Just used the ones that came in the pack shown at the start of the vid Jamie.
I like to leave out the inner during break in. Little more work but cheap insurance.
My truck idles at 855 rpm and when I change gears down to 600 when put in drive or reverse...I'm interested in cams
Sounds pretty good! I'm currently installing one in my 71 Camaro. Well see how it turns out!
installing one in a 83 camaro right now
Good sound I had the same in my 70 c10, thought it was fast, ran against a 72 ford he had 390 w Comp 268H f’d around and found out, I was all show and no go too much lobe seperation on the thumper to perform
Sounds like a completely different engine ! Does she fowl plugs much now ?
Lawd 😍😍😍😍😍😍 that's how I need my 350 to sound
Part 2 vid now uploaded. Bit more of the cam than the first vid.
@@OGCambo going check it out
Beautiful pickup. 👍
The new THUMPR cam is helping sweep your garage floor 😁
how does it pull down low RPM?
What compression?
First off , its nice to hear from across yhe pond .
The cam sounds radical for avarage street use, is it or not .
Im not concerned about economy but how long the cam and engine will last
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CHEVY SOUNDS BEAUTIFUL!!!!!🤜🏿🤛🏿
-HEVY CHEVY ALL DAY-
That shift kit/worked transmission making it go in gear hard!!!🤜🏿🤛🏿
What rear end gears do you have there? I’m really tempted to put this cam into my C10
Do you know how many degrees the intake valve opens before top dead center?
Nice that how i want mine to sound like
So stock block with bolt on and cam?
How's the brakes??
Is there enough vacuum for the booster?
Wondering the same thing
@@Dougarrowhead except when the wipers stop working.
Definitely made a big difference
Did you have to change the converter
Slick build, very clean😎😎
Part 2 vid now uploaded. Bit more of the cam than the first vid.
What did you set your timing at? Initial and total?
Nice truck
cool sound whats the mufflers
How much of that lift is actually adding horsepower with stock heads tho?
Probably nothing much. I cammed up so my slow cool old truck would sound better. Nothing more than that. The video was to show the sound change, nothing mentions performance.
Hey mate, how does this drive with the stock converter? Did you have any issues with low vacuum for the brakes?
You did real good!!!
Sounds amazing bit is it All sound and no go? Or does the thumper make any low and mid end power
It's just a cruiser mate. Very mild 350. I only went for a nice cruise sound. There's plenty of power there for a bit of traction breaking, but nothing compared to the LS world and today's numbers.
If I may chime in...I installed the Thumper in my 350 in my little S10 and couldn't be happier with both the sound and power! I had a Comp 268-H before the thumper. The power band is awesome! Pulls hard after 2200 rpm but is perfectly drivable daily. Those who talk shit about Thumper cams may have just had the wrong combination of parts in their build. I been doing this for a while now and have seen for myself what they say about the Thumper. Usually ends up being too low compression, wrong stall converter and or carb/timing setup is not right. Either way, I myself LOVE it.
Sounds great .....looks great Chevy in Australia 🦘 that's great too ...
Like music to my ears, i have a comp extreme energy in my truck 480/280 --- 468/268 w/110 lobe sep. W/ flowmasters cut off at the rear w/ 45* turndown tips sounds tough
Part 2 vid now uploaded. Bit more of the cam than the first vid.
I was told by the guy at summit that I couldn't put a thumper cam in my stock 96 sierra...5.7... its this true... I'm wanting a cam for it I want a nice sounding like but don't know how to choose a cam
Email Comp and ask them. That’s who I used for advice before proceeding.
Summit guys don't really know. Remember, they sell parts for damn near everything. They can't be expert for it all.
Did the new cam make the exhaust louder or is it just the camera position? Sounds great!
I think a choppier idle makes that sound more prominent. Not necessarily louder
What does the rpm drop to when going into gear? I think it sounds amazing!!
How is this cam with power brakes
Wow what mufflers are those
Did you change the torque converter or just re used the stock one?
Stock. I mention this in the video at the beginning
@@OGCambo does it drive fine with the stock converter?
@@mhugo9 Yep, all good
Did u have to degree ur engine
Sounds good looks good 👍
Part 2 vid now uploaded. Bit more of the cam than the first vid.
@@OGCambo i checked it out that is a really nice truck you got
sounds great
Sounds amazing. What mufflers are you running?
What is the link so for those cams
Nice truck!!!
Any issue with vacuum for power breaks?
I'm running a front disc conversion.
@@OGCambo I have factory front disk in my 89 I’m assuming I should t run into break vaccine issues then.
What kinda heads are you running
the basic ones that came on the engine. I didn't upgrade them. I mention this in the vid
Did you use the stock valve springs?
No
Nah, used Comp springs shown in the pack at the start of the vid
@@OGCambo how much horsepower you have?
are you able to send me a link to this exact kit
How lazy are you?
Whats the point of the cam
Just that beautiful sound that an exhaust upgrade will never provide.
And adds good power
What is the kit number?
label shown at the 0:41sec mark
Can it be installed on a 89 Silverado 350 tbi?
No too big. Find something around 450 lift . An l79 cam works good on tbi motors.
What valve springs are you running
Hi Jeff, the ones that came in the kit shown at the beginning of the video.
How does it drive
Really starting to throw it around and enjoy it now Donta, drives great!
Do you have complete part number for cam?
K12-600-4 is the COMP part number and I purchased the complete kit from JEGS
@@OGCambo did you have to change the cam bearings or did the cam just slide in?
@@mattheaton4001 They showed minor wear but it's motor out to swap them to get to the rear ones, so I took the 'hope for the best' option and left them in.
Part 2 vid now uploaded. Bit more of the cam than the first vid.
@@mattheaton4001 Cam bearings don't wear like mains or rod bearings. Usually no problem leaving them in for a new cam
get that green battery in a black box, the rest of the engine bay is awesome
It has matching Optima red tops now.
part #?
It's listed and shown at the start of the video Frank
Lol, needs torque converter. I think anything less than a 3000 stall speed is a waste.
even for street?
@@mattv8919 even for street? Especially for street, baby factory cams make torque very early and have good manners. They don't need to have much stall speed because they immediately are in the torque curve. Plus they nose over very early so you don't have much rpm to work with.
Now, change to just about any aftermarket camshaft. Look at some some power curves from a dyno, most "decent" engines don't really begin to work until 3000 so the torque converter helps you get into that curve quickly to move the vehicle efficiently. If it's got any amount of duration at all it moves the torque curve up which means you're going to have a pooch until you get into the torque curve
@@Dougarrowhead
Yeah that's why guys with stock F body's throw a 4000 Yank in their cars and and they run like a MF'R!
3000 isn't way too high if you really want to stay in the torque curve!
@@Dougarrowhead well your torque curve will come on sooner being blown with more cubic inches as well but it's not a mismatched combo, it's one that works really well, you're just not familiar with it. Just like a little 5.3 has no torque down low and more converter gets it in the curve. I'm not gonna piss back and forth with ya about it.
@@viciousrap700 do you still have the green camaro?
Sounds like it means buisness now 👍😎
I have never heard it called a “chev”
We Australians shorten everything. Chev is a pretty common way of saying it down here.
@@OGCambo fair enough
I think I might be racist but the accent just dont feel right talking about sbc. Im glad its like other places but just wasnt prepared for that one.😅😅
Talked for half the video only for the sound quality to be garbage when you finally started the truck. Disliked.
Looked up you uploaded video's. None so STFU !
Dam good looking ride
Did you have to swap valve springs with the new heads?? Looking to go for this same setup
Yep, they were in the kit I bought that is shown at the start of the vid.
