Adam and Jessie are hung up on talent, and Steve's looking at it logically. Do you want a team that has all the elite talent and has good regular seasons, or do you want to have a team that has a chance to contend for cup? So far, all this elite talent they have has netted them one playoff series victory. And for what they're being paid, that is not good enough.

Value in Willie is in long term. And he's the most consistent of the 4 core. Marner likely gets to walk at the end of his deal, and there's no way Tavares gets north of 10 after his contract runs out. Fortunately, samsonov became trash, so that could clear up some space and the goalie depth is looking serviceable. So only 1 year of extreme cap crunch next season.

One very underrated factor for both the Canucks and Jets are their amazing 3rd lines, with them arguably being two of the best 3rd lines in the league right now. Joshua, Blueger, Garland for the Canucks, and Niederreiter, Lowry, Appleton for the Jets are lines designed to grind and wear down the opposition, and then punish them with high speed counter attacks. Wish the Leafs would build their 3rd line like that, because those are lines that will help win playoff games.

I believe this team will win some rounds but they won’t win a cup in my opinion they do not have a Top 4 RD that is very good or elite and it’s rare a team wins without a super solid RD, They have to many players making to much money and if JT walks good luck getting a second line Center that can produce and play a 2 way game like JT for anything less than 7 million, Marner is going to get 11 million when his deal is up or he’s going to walk I don’t believe he will waive to be traded, They won’t have enough money for an elite or great goaltender and with their defence they are going to need a goalie that can play really good to make up for the defensive issues in the playoffs, They will also not have enough money for solid depth pieces to keep on the team long enough where they can get chemistry with each other… so in my opinion this team will not win a cup, They got out of the rebuild way to fast and they sold to many prospects way to fast along with picks… Dubas signed these players with the intention that the cap would have increased which you have to take that into consideration he couldn’t predict Covid but still it did not work for them… If Toronto was smart they should have let Nylander walk, He’s not the best player on this roster I’m sorry but he’s not going to be a consistent 100+ point player this is a career year he’s a 40-45 goal 90 point player in my opinion at best, I could be wrong but I think this is the best year he will have, he’s gonna get the bag and get comfortable… I’m not a leafs fan I’m a Habs fan but my brother is a leafs fan and I feel bad for you guys, If you have Matthews and Marner that’s good enough to build with other players that don’t cost more than 8 million in the top 6 WITH winning habits….

One was a pick and one has been injured but it improved their depth and now they're the top team in the league because everyone one of their lines can do damage. If you’re giving teams any out for “accidentally” roughing the other guy up (like idk cross-checking Zadina in the back since it’s known he’s got lingering back issues), that’s a dangerous precedent.

They haven’t accomplished anything in the playoffs yet they are doubling down on the same team with the same structure. A team that we all agreed back in June couldn’t remain the same. Willy is good but I think they should have traded him or let him walk and have this year be the year they go for it. If they get far…. Great! If not, then they make changes anyway. Now they can’t make changes because everyone with some value has trade protection. Can’t blame fans for not being ecstatic about having more of the same that we’ve had the past half decade.

Marner is the only guy who they can possibly move on from, and that's by simply letting him walk in free agency after next season.

Then maybe get rid of allowing icing but maybe if defending team ices the puck more than once without a proper clear they get a second penalty for delay of game?
There are ways to stop players from constantly icing the puck. I'm just tired of a penalized team being allowed to have a different set of rules than the one on the power play.
I'm all for good hits and clean hockey but this mickey mouse stuff needs to stop. Making it harder for penalized players to defend would lead to teams prioritizing a lack of penalties and maybe the league will see a decrease in penalties taken.
Hopefully with reduced penalties all around the league, maybe it will lead to referees being able to actually ref the game instead of game management.
Another big problem in the league is the refs not actually calling infractions, they call the calls that are convenient for them for game management and let the rest go. I would say each team could easily have 20 penalties per game with the amount that just isn't called.

No, NHL teams usually cannot do have incentive/performance bonuses in player contracts except for the following according to Puckpedia: Only certain players are eligible for performance bonuses in their contract:
      -Entry-Level Contract Players
-Players that are 35 years or older and sign a 1 year contract
-Players with a minimum of 400 NHL Games Played signing a 1 year contract after having a long-term injury. A long-term injury is defined as a player on Injured Reserve for a minimum of 100 days in the last year.
While performance bonuses count against the salary cap, teams are permitted to exceed the salary cap due to performance bonuses, to a maximum of 7.5% of the Salary Cap.
