Never thought about this before, but i you're right... I'm scandinavian and i love hammers. But this cannot just be true for Scandinavians? What does the rest of the world do when they have to repair something, or destroy? Or when you're hunting seals and polarbears? Or go fishing? Arguing with your neighbour? Hammers are used for almost anything...

I dont know why it is, but I just love seeing a hammer formed from a small piece of metal. I cant forge anything (except flat blade screwdrivers when I had metalwork in school back in 1974/5). I watch allsorts of forging vids, but the hammer has to be my fave followed by candle sticks. Seeing different hammers being forged never fails to amaze me at the different ways and tools that are used . Well dont. I have subbed. :)

You're right - this is a work of art, not a product. Not really comparable to Chinese products, or any other "products" for that matter. There's at least a couple of hundred dollars in labor in this hammer, not to mention the value of the artistry/craftsmanship. And the Chinese products aren't so much "bad", they're just low on the cost/value curve - and that's what a lot of people want.

I always like to watch someone make things on their own. I've learned many things from RUclips. The two things that were to my advantage was how to heat treat and temper metal parts, for making the mounts for a larger gas tank on my motorcycle, the hinge for my solo seat and the cross bar to mount the two springs under the back of my seat. The other was how to do a perfect paint job on the gas tank using spray paint. For the record, I'm not a real wizard, it's just a nickname I was given as I'm self-taught in many things that have been useful not only in my life but also for family and friends as I saved them money from not hiring a professional to do something.

Mr Blacksmith, i was pleased yet again with your video. I look forward to them often. It is a pleasure to see your work and quality improve over time. I was delighted when i saw you harvest the fruit of grapes and melon. It added a nice segment to the video. It was lovely, and i bet the sugars in the melon was delicious. There is nothing like the taste of fresh fruit and hard work that onesself builds and grows for himself. It was also delightful to include your son in blacksmithing. I am sure it was and will be a memorable experience for him as he grows in life. I remember being a young boy watching and working with my father on engines. It was fun for me to learn to apprentice and watch in awe as my father move cast iron when for me, it was immovable.
Perhaps one day your son will help you forge as much as i helped my father. A son should, i have always felt, learn and obsrrve the work of elders, be ready to assist and hand the next tool needed for the task to be completed. Such is the nature of good learning, to be ready and know what is to be used.
In all Mr Blacksmith, another very well made and planned video. Excellent video footage and content.
    Cheers! 😊

That;s a beautiful piece, Torbjorn. It's especially good to see your boy getting involved and learning traditional skills.

I found a tinning hammer at age 8 or 9 never knew what it was … still have it. Now I'm 63. Some things seem to stick around.

Your videos are well made and inspiring. I especially liked the technique you showed to make the oval handle on the lathe. So nice that you teach your boy normalising and hardening while still so young. The stuff you learn from your father stays with you your whole life!
