It's wack that American Universities are like "give us $100,000, then give us more money for your accommodation, then buy thousands of dollars of books. What? No, we don't trust you to feed yourself. You'll have to also buy food from us."
literally!! it's insane, 'forgot to file your insurance waiver? pay $5,000 more we won't refund you, for insurance you won't use' 'want a car on campus because you need to be able to get to work? $500 chop chop, and if you're lucky we'll give you a 5 minute heads up we need you to move your car in the lot that takes 15 minutes to do we can plow, if you don't make it we'll just give you another ticket"
And then still have shitty accommodation 😂 where does all that money go???
The lack of kitchen and rules against candles and other sources of open flame is due to fire hazards. They just don't trust potentially drunk 18-20 year olds to cook.
That explains why there’s handful of Americans who go to college in my country.
it's madness. One of my european friends had access to student apartments which was basically a studio with a private bathroom and very small kitchen (fridge, a two burner cooktops and sink) and a balcony. I think she paid like 250€ a month for it, but the place was elligible for gov. help if she didn't have the income for it.
And we're speaking about a country that has free/cheap higher education already. The way American students are treated is horrendous.

@tinyredbeetle4675 in the sims 3 you could build your own apartment building and use buydebug to turn it into a functional apartment building, not just a pretend apartment building. In current packs you can't do anything like that at all.

@@tinyredbeetle4675 Ideal would be that apartments are a residential lot type that can be added to any world. Being able to turn some of those downtown area lots into apartments would be really fun
It's so funny reading this not even half a year later with the new pack.
This is why I like sims 2 the most. We could make our own apartments and even mod. We could also build houses and community lots where ever we wanted. Not to forget, we could create our OWN neighborhood.
Can't you do all those things in sims 3 too?
@@hopelessromantic3786it’s a bit harder in the sims 3, plus I believe to create your own world you need to download another program? But yeah it still is possible but the Sims 2 was a lot easier to do it
@hopelessromantic3786 no. I don't think you can place lots in random areas. You can mod but making lots are limited.
@@artofaries1113 Not really. You can edit the world you play in, choose the size of the lot you want (like 20x20, 30x40 etc) and just... plop it on the ground 😆 Very helpful and very easy. That's how I made my Sims 3 witch live in the perfect (for her) spot!! Hope this helps :}

I keep saying this, but The Sims team need to implement an 'Apartment' lot type. I love playing in/building apartments so badly.

Exactly, it should be free considering how much we pay for all the kits packs snd expansion packs that have lately felt like it needs to be basegame and/or game packs. Isn't this a life simulation game? Imo apartments should be the majority...I personally prefer furnishing house tho however I still would like manyyy more apartments than the 3 we have and it's ONLY if u have city living.(and the 2 bare apartments from Eco Lifestyle)

Sims 2 you could
The university I attended had a list of approved University colors and if you were so inclined, you absolutely could go to University Maintenance & purchase a 5 gal of an approved color and borrow rollers and brushes & paint your dorm room. The list of approved colors included pastel yellow, pale mine green, pale baby pink, and a pale baby blue. Basically, all colors that one coat of University White would color since all dorms got a fresh coat of paint over the summer.
My university also didn't care about fairy lights or lava lamps or any lighting really. Their only rules regarding decor were no real Christmas trees, no lit candles, (you could have ones as long as the wicks were never lit), and only 3M blue painters tape or 3M hooks for hanging things up. They were way more persnickety about small appliances. No one listened. There were so many crockpots, rice cookers, and toaster ovens despite rules against them because of "open heating elements"... even if you used them in the dorm kitchens. (all dorms had at least a room with trash/recycling, microwave, and sink but the older dorms had full kitchens in the basement complete with 12 seat dining table and a cozy lounge with carpet, chairs, and couches. The older dorms had way more dedicated public spaces. My favorite dorm also had a piano lounge with library and working fireplace on the main floor. Best place ever for studying.
Little did she know that there was actually going to be a new expansion pack called “For Rent”. Love your vids💗
My college freaked out over 3 things- toasters, candles, and medusa lamps. I lived in the cheapest building (which was actually really awesome compared to most dorms- we had a full kitchen and a bathroom for us 3). You could technically have a literal blowtorch though.
Now I wanna see a dirty sketchy frat house in this world. I might make one lol

As someone who works in a newly-built apartment building in a college town... weirdly shaped rooms/hallways and some rooms being GIGANTIC while others are basically shoeboxes is so realistic.
Imagine if we could put lots next to eachother and make townhouses 😩
I agree! If they could do that way back with the Sims 2, I don't understand why they got rid of the ability to do so in the Sims 4. Probably so they could sell it in another game pack.
@@MsSmontalvo unfortunately the sims 4 was made on a different engine or something stupid like that since it was originally intended to be multiplayer :( now there are a whole lot of restrictions which is why we don’t have open world anymore and so many loading screens… that’s what makes me nervous about project rene i have so many good memories playing the sims 2 and all i want it another sims game like the sims 2 with graphics like the sims 4!!!

in the first (single) dorm i stayed at there was a shared kitchen and shared bathroom for the the whole “floor.” it was an old (founded) and big building so there were like 2-3 sections per floor. and each had a kitchen with an oven/stovetop, fridge, and microwave. they’ve been recently updated the building (since 2016) but are keeping the kitchen. they had like no evacuations from fires and such.
my second dorm (suite) was two bedrooms of 2 and two bathrooms. so four people and two bathrooms and like the tiniest “shared” space maybe you can fit a table but like not enough room for Pong or a dinner party lol. there was no kitchen in this building at all (built 2015) but two microwaves downstairs. and then someone eventually put a microwave on an end table and put it in the second floor landing. 🎉felt very sims 4 style but sims 3 craziness bc we had a 2am fire alarm evacuation like twice a month.
Listening to these college dorm videos are so funny because I was the RA having to go around and tell people to take down their fairy lights and they needed to have less than 30% of their walls covered at all times LOL
In Ukraine, it's quite common for students to tackle the task of putting up wallpapers in their dormitory rooms on their own. Wallpapers are a more favored choice compared to paint, as they eliminate the need for precise wall leveling.
it still blows my mind that American universities just don't put kitchens in the accommodation, then also expect you to, as an adult, sleep in a bedroom with another, completely random, adult.
from what I heard your university dorm only needs metal bars instead of doors to become a prison 😅
Haha my university apartment rn actually has bars on the window! They're plastic and it's literally just because the building is old and the windows have the potential to fall out if leaned on, but still 😂

Simsie!! I was just watching your build your dream house stream and if you ever do a kit collab it should be a “Cozy Comforts Kit” and you could do like cute cozy beds and maybe some comfy chairs maybe a cute comfy sofa!!! Just an idea for you to pitch to the sims team

Sims 2 was the best of the Series for reasons such as that
the snowy escape window you love is very similar to a base game sims 3 window and I secretly think that's why you love it so much 😻
Thats such a nice luxurious dorm! Love it. In UK dorms where i stayed we had cookers,and fridge-freezers but tiny dorms that could only fit single bed and no desk & table which was odd i think plus outrageous rent, and £9,000 per semester plus extra ontop for equipment books etc i studied "Theater Design" i loved my course so much, and decided to move into a house share with a cute dog much better haha😂

the horse ranch wood paneling, the plain pillar from get together, and the windows from snowy escape are huge staples in my building as well, and whenever i try to do limited pack builds i find myself suddenly not knowing how to build without them

This is beautiful. My dorm experience was SIGNIFICANTLY less fancy than this. We had one bathroom per floor, shared by 20+ people. Painted cinderblock walls everywhere. And bats living in the basement.
I love the idea of people like, studying to be surgeons and cut people open, and yet they can't be trusted to fully put out a candle in their rooms so there isn't an accidental fire in the dorm

My college dorm room was painted exactly the same color as classic crest toothpaste. It was even suggested by older students to use toothpaste to cover any pinholes in the walls, lol! The outside wall was painted cinderblock though, just like you mentioned, so there were obviously no holes in that wall.

It’s weird hearing about UCF dorms because I realize I never actually lived on campus there. My first two years were at NCF, so by the time I transferred I just lived off campus in one of those double bed, individual bathrooms, full kitchen apartments with roommates
5 to a bathroom sounds like heck though. My worst was freshman year at NCF which did 3 people to one room with one shared bath
The Sims needs costumizable apartments, but Kayla yours are always amazing and watching your videos is the reason I have The Sims4 and the reason i have been saving up for more packs!
I guess everywhere is different because I was allowed to have a fully functional kitchen with a stove in my dorm and also everyone got their own room (though the rooms were small of course). Fairy lights and candles were allowed too. Everyone just shared one bathroom but I know other people who were in 4 roommate setups and 2 people got one bathroom on one side and the other 2 people got the other bathroom on the other side.

It was so long ago since I was in the dorm in college (1970’s) that you could not have a mini fridge in your room unless you were diabetic and had to store insulin. There was one bathroom per wing with 3 toilets, 3 sinks and 3 showers shared by 12-18 women. Each room had 2 women, 2 single beds, 2 desks and chairs, and 2 closets (except for one room that had 2 bunk beds and was usually just an overflow room). Our rooms were realllllllllly small. Boy, things sure have changed.

I stayed in apartment style dorms. Like a real apartment it was a living area with 2-3 shared bedrooms and a bathroom. It came with a table, chairs, couch, dressers and bunk beds. we pushed our table against the wall in the "living room" and put a microwave and electric kettle on it to function as a kitchenette.

i start college on the 28 and i move in on the 20th and i’m so glad i only share my bathroom with one other person i can’t imagine having one bathroom for the whole floor i’d actually cry 💀

Honestly this is one of the reasons I went back to sims 3 for a bit bc you can build your own complex from like start to finish (plus like, custom world maps slay me)
I recently made a triple decker and I literally just locked the doors to the other two floors. Because I can't make a dang apartment.
I did that too. If you care about what the other tenants are doing you have to keep checking them while playing one family. Sucks
we need a new pack with customizable apartments and you could own your own apartment and become a landlord !!!

I'm still so annoyed that those items are forbidden. They didn't have to do that. It's realistic enough that they didn't put them in the default student housing lots. I hate that I can't put them there.

I lived in a college town, pretty famous. one people might’ve heard of in Spokane wa, home to the Gonzaga Bulldogs, and their dorms always had Christmas lights. A.k.a. fairy lights in the windows and in their rooms so they definitely weren’t banned from every university so you’re fine. 11:58

As for the balcony; I think it's realistic that April and Dory might have decided to put two of the chairs in storage, and decided to add a few things that they like, but they'll put everything "back in it's place" when they move out, if you catch my drift😊

This outside looks soooo similar to a student housing building I stayed in when I did an exchange program in France, but the rooms were only 9 m² and each had their own bathroom (and there were like 10 per floor). These are way nicer, although the bathrooms are shared. Great job!
I love making my own "apartments." I have at least one in every Neighborhood in my game. Although, most of my apartments resemble the ones I saw when I was living in Japan. With the Genkan (entrance where you take off your shoes), and balconies.
Even the Small one room one I was living in (In Japan) had a balcony.

The Sims could add co-living copying the uni residences code and making It available without having to study. Still not apartment buildings but close.

I moved into the suite-style dorms as soon as I could when I was in college. It was a much upgraded living arrangement. The only downside was the cafeteria was in the other, main, dorm on the bottom floor.
