That's coin's old enough that George Washington could have handled it. For America that is pretty old. It's an amazing piece of US history that you own and I love it. Thank you so much for sharing it (and all the other coins) with us, sir!
I need a DNA test on this coin ASAP!
I'd rather look at 1 historical coin than 20 modern bullion coins.
THIS COMMENT RIGHT HERE! Yes sir!
What Zack said^^^
I concur.

Great purchase of this type and a stunning piece of old American history, Jessie ! I assume that there are planchet faults due to the production process, very common for coins of this age. Now get this gem graded, the old lady deserves it ! Greets from GER, U.
Yeah, I bought one at a Las Vegas coin show a few years ago. It was a 1799 dollar and looked very much like yours (price was similar too). I decided to send it to PCGS for grading. They sent it back saying it was counterfeit. If I ever run into the guy that sold it to me.....
Wow I’m so sorry
That is my all time favorite coin. Even had it tattooed on my arm.
My ultimate bucket list coin! Congradulations sir!
I gotta see this tattoo
@@Spegtacular as soon as the tattoo is all finished I will send you some pictures of it. Will be a month or so until done. I am new to your channel and love it so as soon as its done you will be one of the first to see it. I think it is the most beautiful US coin there is and congratulations on the purchase.
More layers of spegTacular getting pealed back every day. Tarantulas, 50 cals, very old rare coins . Stacking ! The spegTacular house is an interesting one . 👍🏻🇺🇸🐢🇺🇸🐢🇺🇸🐢🇺🇸‼️‼️
Got my spegTacular star in the mail . It’s probably my favorite poured piece I own . Very cool brother . Thank you
Thanks Savage! And you all haven’t begun to see the rabbit hole that is my brain ;) 🧠
I was in Coin Guy’s shop the day you filmed your video and saw those old dollars. They are so beautiful. Out of my price range. But, I’m glad to see you got one. Get Guy’s advice before you send it off to a grading company. It’s going to come back to you details graded. Probably cleaned and repaired. That damage on the reverse was probably a ding or scratch that was repaired. That’s really common in the early silver coinage. You might want to just pop it into an airtight or find someone to make you a custom holder for it. I have an 1805 Draped Bust quarter with similar issues. It’s a beautiful coin but it’s worth more not slabbed. Just my thoughts. It’s an amazing coin and certainly a treasure. Enjoy it!
Love those Early USA Coins, such history
** Great coin ... i think it says Spectacular on the Edge 👍😆
I agree!! Spegtacular for sure.
I'm really happy for you. I've been a collector now for some 50 years. Type coins have always been my favorite, and I've only ever owned one heraldic eagle quarter. I bet it's been more than twenty years since I bought it. You just don't come across all that many, especially in a price range the average person can afford. Mine had been cleaned a long time ago, but it would have been a solid fine condition before the cleaning, which made it affordable to me. There's a certain feeling you get holding a US coin over 200 years old, thinking of the people who would have used it, and what that coin would have bought at the time compared to now. Glad you got yours.
I'm glad too Linda. Imagine where the coin has been.
@Linda Nelson I as well have been an avid collector for many years and when coming across some of these type coins I would try to find a way to get them. I had a buddy that would travel together to coin shows and did a bit of short trips around the country always finding time to seek out coin shops and dealers. I haven’t been about much since my old friend passed away almost five years now but I really enjoy my collection still
Amazing quality...This is not just a coin as you know...You hold history beyond measure. To think about that coin and the hands it has passed to get to you. What stories it has seen and what a legacy to hold.
That is so cool! I have two of my favorite ones, a 1901 Morgan dollar, & a 1922 Peace dollar both came with a individual round coin case. I kept them in there to this day. The letterings are still raise & hasn’t fade.
Cool.
That’s cool man I love 1922 peace ✌🏽 and Morgan’s I collect them by the sets amazing coins keep it up
Beautiful coin, wonder who held the coin Early founding fathers, cool
Nice coin Speg and as usual great seeing Guy sharing his knowledge 🙂 The red book says the previous version edge letting is"Hundred cents one dollar or unit" with decorations between words.
History is not only important to learn, it’s also expensive to own. Nice coin
Beauty! Very nice find. Congrats!
Thanks for sharing the experience, I’d be just excited as you. 😀
How the heck did i miss this video🙄🤔 Awesome find Speg! 🍻 brother
Beautiful coin you got there my friend wish I had one it’s on my bucket list one day congrats
One day make it happen captain
Thats a coin that wont go backwards. Congrats on stepping over the threshold of doubt. Awesome coin ☺🎉
I agree. Only going up.
Dude, as long as you are happy, that’s what matters. A beautiful piece of history.
I love these old ones Great find Speg !
Love your video’s I’ve been watching maybe for a year. It has taught me a lot. I love your passion for the industry. Keep up the great work
Great coin I watched your video when you were in coin guys shop with this coin in it. This is a keeper I wouldn't sell it either. This coin needs passed down through the generations. Just think 200 yrs from now they'll be talking about you and the coin guy like washington and John Adam's. Great coin.
I enjoy listening to you talking about your coin that you just recently got from 1789. I've been a coin collector since in 1978 started out with the mercury dimes. I have got over ten dansco albums picking up coins at dealers and auctions.
A truly awesome addition to your collection. I wouldn't have been able to to resist picking that up. I'm always looking at coin shows for that kind of find. Nice on the foreign coins as well. I just got a decent sized lot at a local estate sale. Hopefully some treasures to be found.
Nice! An estate sale!
@@Spegtacular Yes! And not like an eBay "estate sale" lol
NICE COIN RARE AND IN GOOD CONDITION..CONGRATS.
That is a great Draped Bust dollar. I've never seen one in person, but last year my LCS had a Draped half dollar in. It wasn't in my budget, but my coin guy knew I would appreciate it, so he took it out of the case for me to get a close look at it. Even if I never own one, I can say I have held one once
Couldn't stop thinking about it..went into buying mode.
How much did your LCS ask for the Draped Bust half dollar?
@@misterTVman $350, but that was when silver was considerably lower. If I had that kind of money in my pocket at the time, I would have bought it in an instant
@@cdrematt I paid $350 total including shipping and tax for my Draped Bust half dollar on eBay a year ago. It was from a coin dealer. It's probably around very fine condition, I thought it was a good deal.
Wow, amazing to hold history like that in your hand. Thanks for the show, SpegTacular! I just subbed ya
Thanks for the sub! Glad you enjoyed.
Great acquisition, Speg. Coin Guy guided you well.
I call first dibs when you are ready to flip it.
Congratulations.
Got a shovel? Cause it’s going six feet under with me when I go.
Oh man I love it! That is a dream coin and you got it! Nothing like early Americana! Of course you had to sweeten the pot with those Mexican coins as well... Then on top of that a Balboa... You are tugging on all my favorites in one video! That 1798 is a gem and I would love to own one as well someday! Thanks for sharing and I remember that coin from the last interview video... I had a feeling you were going to buy it!!!
"IT feels great in my Glove" LOL ,
"100 cents , Oh that makes Sence" Total Dad Joke bro!
Great coin, draped bust dollars are beautiful! I was lucky enough to get an 1802 over 1 about 20 years ago. It's the crown of my collection.
Spectacular pick up, gorgeous!! I enjoyed the video, I’m more into collecting than stacking though. Hope to have a coin from that series (silver or gold) one day!
Congratulations on adding that beautiful coin to your collection!
Beautiful acquisition! I can empathize with you how that design from a Master tool & die maker totally captured your immagination. Caliber of workmanship is appreciated differently thru different eyes, and with many items, including coins, 'rarity' and 'value' does not even enter the equation. There are thousands of coins, both US and World, in my Collection.. most purchased because of their beauty and craftsmanship of design.. very few for their intrinsic values, but the item that captured my imagination and I had to own was not a coin.
It was a small, once broken and poorly repaired, Asian-looking Vessel that appeared to be extremely old. It sat on a Thrift Store shelf by the check-out counter.
Well! Almost forty years have passed since I acquired it, and, to this day, each time I take it out to look at it I am in awe of it's beauty and its detailed Artesan craftsmanship. The mysteries of it's origins, 'who made it', 'what was it made for', 'was there a special reason for it's creation', 'how was it constructed' and dozens of other unanswered questions all fascinate me.
Mr. SpegTacular.. I hope the levels of fascination and amazement each time you hold and look at your newly acquired coin continue for a very long, long time.. enjoy! Regards.. Dan
The edge printing might be alien script :) LOL Just kidding.
Well...according to the US Government.......they exist! :)
Wow! I know where you are coming from. When I've handled something very historical or famous, I've felt the same passion and amazement. Enjoy the piece - I"m glad it found a good home! It is beautiful...no doubt. Think about all the interesting things that were bought with that - horses, horseshoes, buggy repair, tri-point hat perhaps...it boggles the mind really.
Speg. All I can say is WOW!!!! What a great addition to your collection. Very nice find.
I never knew about the edge lettering, I learned something new today. Thanks.
super cool. Man had some nice toning too once you had her dance around in the light
Oooooold toning.
I’m jealous. Awesome coin Spegtacular!
Man such a beautiful coin great details. I need to find one for my US type set. Great buy speg 👍
Congratulations! The draped bust is top of my wish list. Your example is quite nice, you should be proud of it!
Speg - I really enjoyed the old bust coin blip. Thank you!
Speg any original coin from the 1700's is epic. Nice pick up. I watched that video and knew you would get one.
You just had a feeling didn't ya?
Wow sweet coin . That's what got me stacking I was collecting coins.
Congratulation, having a coin you love
Yeah, I would've bought it too. That's history you have in your hand. Damn, I want one now.
Beautiful coin. I have a nice 1828 capped bust half dollar with edge lettering. My favorite coin in my collection so far. Mostly a stacker but some collecting keeps it interesting
Theory on the stars: 99% sure they are damaged, but interesting how 4 are removed. These could represent the 4 (of the original 13 states) that succeeded at the Civil War!! (Georgia, N&S Carolina, & Virginia)
that would be very cool if that was the reason for the stars being "erased"
In that case, they forgot to remove 4 stars from the obverse too. (Thankfully)
I think you meant seceded.
@@bentnickel7487 sorry for the xtra letters
Awesome pickups Speg. She’s expensive but a beauty 🔥🔥. Your right that’s a type of coin you want to get graded 👍👍👌
You got that right!
I like listening to Coin Guy
His accent is awesome
I happy that you purchased that Dollar, make sure to mail it to me for safe keepings lol
AMAZING my friend! You need to get it graded. You have to add show us. Love it
That's certainly the plan. I'll gladly let everyone know the grade once received.
Fantastic coin! It may have been plugged and repaired. The damaged spot on the reverse you were noticing has a very similar look to the same spot on the obverse. Just doesn’t look quite like the rest of the coin in those two areas. This plug and repair would also give a good explanation as to why the stars are missing on the reverse in that spot. Regardless, this is truly a great piece!
Could very well be. Such an interesting coin nonetheless.
I would tend to agree, it has also been cleaned at one point, if you tilt it around you can see the many parallel hairlines. Still may be worth getting certified even in a detail grade for a coin that nice, I'd definitely say VF Detail.
I agree with you Kevin... In the early days of minting silver dollars... (see 1794 and 1795 Flowing Hair.) When the planchets or blanks were brought in to the new mint in Philadelphia and they did not weigh quite enough... 26.88 grams.. often the mint would drill and insert small silver pins into the planchet to get the weight up and right... this would result in a mint plug, which often is a variant class noted, and hence, rarer, and perhaps more valuable... Over time, sometimes these plugs would even fall out... and, I believe that at times,, some of the Bust Dollars had plugs too....
I can tell you that this coin has not been drilled through.. (holed) and then plugged...
Now, I believe that this coin is fairly priced and you cannot go much wrong... (in other words, I believe you can very much trust the coin guy..) The drawback is that I don't think the coin would be nice enough at PCGS or NGC to actually get a graded number.. (just my opinion) I think they would call it "genuine, damaged, details" or "genuine, not gradable".. And personally, I think this is a cop out on older silver coins, almost all of which got circulated, and also contain many odd marks and scratches, which I find very interesting and part of the particular coin"s "history"...
Enough of this for now, but feel free to inquire... (I own a 1795 Flowing Hair- 3 Leaves, which I am trying to get NGC to admit has TWO mint plugs in the planchet.. If successful, (which I guess it won't be- even though it clearly has two spots which are plugged) then this coin would only be the 2nd known to exist to have 2 mint plugs... and hence, might make it very rare... and expensive... BUT... as I suspect with you... I will never offer this coin up for sale, because, to me... these things a very rare, historically unique, and hence, priceless.... yours, Robert
It's clearly plugged but it is indicated as repaired on the holder.
Glad to see you bought it. I would of definitely bought it myself especially for that price. Nice
Awesome!!! I love this kinda video👍
I just now watched your video about the bust dollar, you pretty much nailed it but I feel the same way about mine, you are so lucky to have the coin guy 👍
Congrats Speg! Love it
Hi Spectacular, neat coin, I been looking for one myself, off and on. Hopefully this year. Enjoy it. Bill
What a beautiful coin all my life I wish I had a coin with just like that congratulations
Thank you Erwin.
I really enjoyed this video, I'm a coin collector on a limited budget (when when ) so I live vicariously through others purchase s. Thanks, keep up the videos. I did get the Robin hood and pied Piper rounds and the scroll box. Box was kind of pricey but it's pretty cool?
she is a grand old lady, I have bought both older and more expensive silver coins although I would love to hold a coin of that caliber and History in my hands also. Fully understand your excitement .Something tells me you will be spending more time with her.
We’re in love
“KWAH - TAY - MOKE”
“Cuauhtémoc”
Glad that you brought that great piece of history. I like those Mexican coins
I'm envious of the ole gal you have. i have a bit of world silver as well. I'm partial to the canadian silver likely because I'm from alaska. Great coins good sir thank you for the vids.
I find those coins regularly of the Flea Maekets here in Bulgaria. A magnet picks them up. Be careful out there......
Well mine is tested as silver. No magnet is gonna pick this one up ;)
Beautiful coin. When you took it out out of the flip and said it felt great, that is why I don’t buy coins that have been slabbed.
Very impressive coin, I wouldn't slab it just so you can look at the edge. I love edge writing.
Beautiful coin you got!
Thank you.
Impressive coin brother!
I’d say she’s Spegtacular!! She’s found her right home 👍🏼
Congratulations nice coin thx for sharing 👍

Ahhh she’s a beauty!! Congrats!
You did good. Very nice coin !
Nice coins! I'm jelly, congratulations.
I don't think I'm ready for your jelly.

That is sooooo cool thank you for sharing
Yeah that beauty is on my list for sure......nice buy
That's a beautiful coin and maybe an error the best of both worlds glad you got it
I think so too!
I just bought my most expensive silver coin and then received it yesterday. A 2021 Chinese silver panda 🐼 lol it’s so beautiful though I love it
Definitely an awesome coin 🪙
I agree on my bucket 🪣 list
Awesome Coin! Congraduation!
Great coin. 1798 is a scarcer date than 1799. I got one graded by ngc as a lowly vg8 but will never sell it either lol. Look into a 1795 half dollar too!
Very nice coin. I'm sure if you sent it in to be graded it would probably get a details grade with the damage on the back, but it's still a beautiful coin.
Awesome pickup!
Those are stars that are missing in the reverse. Its supposed to be 13 stars total. Theres one on ebay right now going for over $7k.... WOW! ..TOO RICH FOR ME BUT VERY..VERY..NICE! CONGRATS SPEGTACULAR!
I appreciate it.
my buddy just bought 188 grams of gold at $233 per gram!
CRAZY THING IS HE COULD MAKE $5000 PROFIT IF HE SOLD IT...
YES, HE BOUGHT A GOLD ROLEX
Great pickup! I still need a trade and bust dollar myself but getting there!
Great acquisition!
Oh sweet you went back and got it huh , very nice
cool .. very cool .. you're honestly sharing so kudos to you and thanks for sharing .. i can see items difficult to come across in Europe
The older coins are so amazing just to wonder who may have handled it!
NICE! would like to add one to my collection as well.................. one day
Great coin,..and yes, you should get it graded!
On an aside, I'd love to see you discuss PCGS graded Eisenhower dollars.
I think some collectors overlook them as being too modern,..but I disagree considering they're 50 years old.
If you think about it, when the Ikes came out, 50 years prior was the last dollar coin, the Peace dollar.
In higher grades, Ikes can get crazy expensive, and hard to find. Collectors are holding onto the highest grades.
One example is the 1978-P. At MS66+ it's $550 with current pop of 39 and at MS67 (the highest graded) at $6,000 and current pop of 8.
I think in the next 10-20 years, they'll really sky-rocket once people realize the low population on the MS Ikes.
BTW - Love your talks with Coin Guy!
That is a beautiful coin. Congratulations Speg . Looks like an issue with the die on the stars on the back.
Speg, that is a super great pick up.
I think so too!
That would be one to send in to PGCS or NGC for grading...this one should be a slabbed coin. and yes, I am a collector as well as a stacker as well...a GREAT hobby!
I agree...such an old coin..lets get it protected to the fullest.
@@Spegtacular And I will confess, when I saw that vid, I almost called Nathan and bought that coin myself!!
My local LCS dealer, whom I am a very good friend of, owns a 1798 bust dollar in about fine. He probably bought it 40 years ago for a couple hundred bucks. Now, it's worth at least upwards of a thousand dollars.
