Great video. Thank you! Today I removed the brake discs, unscrewed all the bolts, but the discs were rusted and I couldn't remove them. I watched your video, and things started going. Thank you very much!
Grand job Dave. Meticulous attention to detail. You’re showing that Transit some love after serious neglect. How it got through its last MOT is beyond me. Reckon Granville should be paying you for promoting their ceramic grease!
Am so glad the owner of this van found you very good work there's not many good mechanics around anymore keep up the good work
I fitted an after market rear wheel bearing with studs on my Mondeo and the studs were longer than Ford ones so the closed head nuts bottomed out before going tight. Great video, thanks.
Thank you for this! Very well presented clear with all relevant information, and no involvement of a lump hammer to remove the disc!
When other RUclipsrs start making videos about you, you know you’ve got it made! 👌
Oh aye, he's a big fan
Fantastic video dave great help to anyone who wants try it themselves
Excellent & love the driving bit at the end of the video 👍
That ceramic brake grease is fab quite agree 👍
Yes, It is a good all rounder
Great video Dave, Also some excellent instructions with explanations
35:00 This is the first time I've seen someone actually change the bolts as required. 👍🙂
That is a fantastically informative video.
Isn’t it amazing some peoples lack of attention to detail. I definitely didn’t know about the rubber sliding pin being trailing in its placement but everyday is a school day. Very well done Dave, no stone left unturned 👏👏👍
Aye Peter, it's those things that i don't know what people consider or not, so based on what i found on this example, it gives me something to refer to. If that makes any sense.
@@davesterl absolutely Dave, I will never forget that now.
Wouldn’t you wonder how anyone could be that careless to fit brake pads like that & I have seen it quite a few times too 🤷🏼♂️
I once saw a pad fitted backwards with the steel back up against the disc 😱😂😂
i don't think it's carelessness. I think they don't know details such as pads pinned to piston, directional pads, carriers cleaned and filed. Pins not cleaned properly, not greased, wrong grease, slider pins in wrong place etc........My local factors tell me i'm the only person orders brake hardware and they supply most garages round here as they seem to just change pads and only that ie: beat old ones out and beat new ones in. I then get them in and redo the whole job and explain to owners the time is in the clean up. The other day i dumped new pads someone else fitted, ECP crap. There may be a factor of cost of time to what the customer is willing to pay.
@@davesterl 😂😂😂
Some eejit was at that before you clearly. You carried out a very thorough job indeed. Great video
yeah some eejit that thinks they know what they are doing, but don't
Nice job straightening out that mess! Great tips too!
Yes! Thank you!
Good video Dave I’m going off to get a couple of tins of grease now thanks man 👍
All available on the Amazon store, very cheap for you Alan
Another great video Dave well documented 👏👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Reference material Dave. Great stuff.
Just found your channel. Great video. I like how you show and explain everything. Subscribed thanks. 👍
Brilliant video dave, liking the the motersport part at the end lol
Glad you liked it, took me ages to edit that sequence. A bit of fun tho
Great video Dave! Even by my standards an absolute rogue must have been at that before 😂
Nice Job there Dave some clampet has left you a fair bit of work tidying up their mess
Ha ha for a split second thought you were driving the van like that thought flipping hell won’t be 30mpg after that run 😂
She always makes smile 😂😂👍
She's the star of the show
Got a track day coming up - shopping for Crocs tomorrow 😂
Get them on ye
im thinking the mushroomed stud have been done with them wheel nuts and a big impact . then the heads have been cut off the nuts after to make them fit
Another great video Dave packed with tips and tricks. I’m with you on the copper grease I’m well over twice the age of the other mechanics in the garage I work in they daub the bloody copper grease on everything including slider pins and the sods know it gets my goat 😂
Cheers Kevin. Yeah, i don't get it why people love the copper grease so much. I see it plastered everywhere too
Thanks for a very detailed video of a job that I will be attempting to do in the spring. Just wondering if you’d advise the use of any anti seize ( aluminium anti seize ) or grease on the axle splines. For ease of future disassembly?
Usual very high standard of information and real-world experience.
I blame the many so-called experts on RUclips that are not qualified for the poor-quality repairs inflicted on vehicles.
The vehicle you so expertly worked on is an example of poor-quality workmanship.
Ever think of teaching at trade school.
Yeah Colin for sure although i do see stuff that have been from other garages that i end up re-doing. When i get a vehicle for the first time the owner leaves with a list of advisories and comes back after we gather all the parts. It has been mentioned by others about teaching but i don't need a job. Cheers
Good video Dave I watched the whole hour! In good time as Rody has 2015 transit coming in tomorrow with ABS fault😅 cheers min
I had to cut that down to an hour cos i wanted to include the detail, otherwise would have been a feature film. Roddy will sort that no bother to him , top man.
Crocs. Classssssssyy
enjoyed that test drive lol
Im going to be doing 2 vans with front discs next weekend.
Do i need that tool for the bearing or will some tappy taps work too?
(I dont have that tool)
👍👍
Those wheel studs are replaceable they just knock out and knock in I have just changed mine.
Yes they do, although as stated in the video, i could only source rear studs for this variant
Whoever designed the hub and disc setup needs a good slap! Ford are desperate for that, 2.0l tdci engines have the oil filter burried, need hands like a midwife to get at it!
Yeah, no need for that design
Just try to change a light bulb on a Ford Ka. I was told that you’d need to take off the front bumper for that. I wouldn’t want to tell/sell that to a customer.
Was there any grease when u took it off?
NO!
shuld u put the grease?
NO!
Wise up
How did it even pass the M.O.T 🤔🤔
Exactly!
False economy not to change the wheel bearings looking at the state of corrosion /
That’s hard to watch.. hit the back of the front disk with a hammer just adding time onto the job. Must be paid by the hour not the job😅😅
seems like you haven't done any of these with that nonsense comment
Ah the old pre sale postal order MOT... why I never trust stealers, or sellers, or anyone selling a car for that matter. Well done Dave, in restoring faith in humanity. What a complete tool that worked on this before!
Still going to steer clear from a roadside transit brake job then. No wonder they're expensive to do!
You're teaching me things I never knew!
No neversneeze on the driveshaft though?
Edit: never mind. Now you told me!
Thought about the nuts, they could be aftermarket nuts, because the fiesta has a zinc sheath on them. Steel swelled up and you end up with swollen nuts. I've told a few folks to buy cheap ebay nuts - open top. Been there, done that, because the spare I had on my chrysler needed open top nuts.
SAMIR, YOU'RE BREAKING THE CAR!
They are aftermarket nuts as they are aftermarket wheels. No anti seize on axle reqd if it's cleaned up. People put copper grease on the splines without clean up is another waste of time.
@@davesterl fortunately most ford's/volvo I've worked on - have all let their axles go easily.
Tips you're giving us are invaluable.
