@96libertytt He is considering so many have never heard his name compared to the known greats. His name should be up there with Jagger, Plant and Tyler. It's just not.
You guys need to check out the live version of this song from 1991 at Wembley Stadium in London, UK. Sold out show, 75,000 people and INXS at their peak. Jaw dropping performance, the band absolutely crushes!!!
The only thing better than INXS is INXS LIVE!!! For sax overload What You Need live at Wembley Stadium 1991! Awesome performance and a fantastic crowd participation bit and sax sax sax 🎷 For sexy INXS it's Need You Tonight!!!!
One of the best front men in rock history. INXS literally owned the mid 80’s early 90’s. That big. Someone needs to do Original Sin & The one Thing. Couple others, Mystify and Bitter Tears, winners.
YES! Thanks for coming back to this fun and great band! I left a bunch of songs from the first INXS video, but would suggest "Need You Tonight/Mediate" video next.
‘Need you tonight’ and ‘Suicide blonde’ are essentials. Such a great live band. I saw them perform with different singers years after Michael passed away, still awesome.
The Hutch and the boys thank you for your music you all were born to do this great musician's who have mastered their instrument's. Always in our heart's. HUTCH you left us way to soon .We love all of you .Zorba Asbury Park NJ USA.🎉
The drum sound you are referring to is called gated reverb. It consists of a compressed signal that has heavy reverb on it and uses a noise gate to quickly cut off the sound. It was devised in the late 70s and first really noted on Peter Gabriel's third album, for which Phil Collins played drums on one track. Collins then began using the technique and he is its most famous user.
Speaking of Cold Chisel…Oh they totally need to hear “Good Times” w/Jimmy Barnes and Michael Hutchence! I’m not an Aussie but an Arkie, but I know there’s some great music down under! (Don’t forget Midnight Oil!) ❤ from Arkansas USA
I may get slammed for this. I love this album (KICK), but to me, Listen Like Thieves was their best album. I'm a metal guy, but you can't help but love INXS. My introduction to them was IT'S The One Thing in the earliest days of MTV. Great reaction guys. It's hard to not have a great time listening to anything by INXS!!! The vocalist (Hutchence) can do no wrong!!! He was so good. Not one bad album. Thanks guys!!! GO BOSTON BRUINS!!! 👏🤟🍻
you think you'll get slammed! kick is my least fave album, and I love it! well the album w/o michael is my least fave, but I don't speak about it. my favorite inxs album was welcome to wherever you are.
@@aliarobinson6617 yeah. Kick was the most popular and you know how ppl get lol. Welcome is awesome as well. I don't even count the one without Michael as INXS at all. My second runner up is Shabooh Shabah.
Watch INXS 'What You Need' from their Wembley 1991 concert w/70,000 in the audience going crazy. The whole thing was filmed professionally (it's a full length DVD called Live Baby Live). You'll see how insanely popular they were and also how magnetic Michael Hutchence was onstage. And the band was absolutely fabulous live.
I was one of the 70k - fantastic! A whole 'Summer XS' event at the old stadium of well known groups Debbie Harry (Blondie), Hothouse Flowers, Jesus Jones.......topped by INXS Amazing!!
@@jessicalove9273 Wow, I'm so jealous!! Must've been an incredible experience. I'm glad I got to see them a few years after this, in Arizona. They were an exceptional live band.
Every INXS song makes you want to move. One of the best frontmen ever, lyricist and vocalist. His voice always makes you melt, that tone. The band was one of the best live bands ever, gifted musicians all of them. Watch the creating of Mystify.
if you look up charisma in the dictionary you will find his picture. this man was unreal in the way he would draw you in, its like he could see through straight to your soul and make you smile.
Personally I think Michael's sex appeal is way more on full display on NEED YOU TONIGHT , also on the Kick album. If you haven yet, have a listen to that the next time you check them out.
Same birthday as him and used to go to local Friday night drinks after work. They played there early in their careers. Good times to be alive, cried my eyes out when i heard he died. Miss him he was a so good live, he was a born star
Michael was so talented. In addition to his great looks and hair, talent makes him sexy! RIP, you are missed! Ultimately, I Need You Tonight, is my favorite.
Thanks for more INXS!! It can't be understated how big they were in the late 80s & into the 90s. They were on the top, top of the world as one of a small handful of bands ruling everything at the time. Their videos were on MTV 24/7, released new hit after hit after hit, always on the radio, name dropped in movies & even now used in movie & tv shows (Euphoria used a ton of their songs).
One of the best front men in the biz. I saw them in 1983. Sadly, Michael had an accident in 1992 that caused a brain injury that changed his life. story details. What killed Michael Hutchence? Mystify: Michael Hutchence brings new information to light. According to the model Helena Christensen, his girlfriend at the time, the INXS frontman got into an altercation with a taxi driver in 1992 that led to him falling and hitting his head. She remembers him lying unconscious in the street with blood coming out of his mouth and ear. Hutchence woke up in hospital angry and confused, and refused to be treated. After that, friends say, he was never quite the same: he became aggressive, erratic and “seemed to crave more danger”. His death, five years later, was ruled to be suicide, but, Mystify reveals, the autopsy showed large areas of brain damage.
Y'all should check out clips from their live concert at Wimbley Stadium...Then you would see why everyone talks about his charisma and live performance!!
The 'special fx' was a deliberate look by the director using timelapse photography and stylised animation. This was shot on film. It was directed by Richard Lowenstein who had an experimental bent to his material. He directed a film called Dogs in Space which Hutchence starred in.
I don't understand why their live performances are so much better than the videos usually bands and singers don't sound as good live as they do on studio versions but this band kills it live their lives are so much better in my opinion, you should check out what you need by INXS live at Wembley Stadium 1991
My sister was a huge fan of INXS even before they became big, when they were still opening for bigger bands. She would go with her friends to their concerts and cram up to the edge of the stage. She even had a bangle bracelet that Michael threw into the audience! (He used to wear a bunch of them on his wrist so he could toss them to the fans.) There's a fun sax solo in "Need You Tonight/Mediate". One of their best songs (actually two, as one blends into the other), and a great example of the more restrained sex appeal you were talking about. Micheal was SO sexy! Those laughing, happy eyes, and his catlike movements. Oh my, get me my smelling salts! 😍😛
MTV played this video over and over in the summer of 1987. Me and my brothers would pretend we were in the band, I played the knitting sticks and my brothers played tennis rackets
To give you an idea of how big this song was back then, it was still being played in the clubs with I hit 21 in 1990. This was a huge dance song for that era.
Funny that they brought up how much fun it looked like they were having, because they were hungover out of their minds during filming (Jon Farriss, the drummer, had to be propped up in order to make it through shooting). The live version from Wembley is a sight to behold. INXS were, first and foremost, a live band, and getting to see them in their element is something special. The studio version of What You Need is a classic, but live versions of that are also great because they would play with the arrangement (particularly in the latter days of Michael Hutchence’s tenure). As far as ballads go, By My Side is a close cousin of Never Tear Us Apart, and the live version of Searching (from the 1996 Aria Awards) is an incredible performance.
Several years after they lost their singer, they made a TV show called "Rockstar INXS" to find a new lead singer. It was like an American Idol type show, which featured some amazing talent. They settled on a guy named JD Fortune. Their hit single from that line up was "Pretty Vegas" really awesome song.
They have so many great songs. Suicide blonde, mediate is a must watch video, original sin, and so many more. Some fantastic live performances available online too
It's called a Gated Snare.. What they call New York Compression is typically used to create that Reverby effect on the Snare.. I'm a musician and Sound Guy if you can't already tell. It's a very famous technique still used to obtain a Classic Sound till this day..
He did NOT commit suicide....that was a cover up for autoeroticafixiation while on drugs in his hotel room in Double bay Sydney .....that was common knowledge if you lived there at th time and i did....there was NO possible reason for him to commit suicide.......a wonderful person and extraordinary talent......as they say "the good die young" ❤❤❤

Amazed no one is asking for "Need you tonight." yet. That song was HUGE. Played at every wedding, xmas party or dance type setting. I have a best of cd by them and it has about 30 songs on it. I am not joking when I say 25 of those songs are really good and many of them were hits. There live at Wembly concert on dvd is really good and you might want to check out something live from that. Saw them three times. Nassau Coliseum on Long Island. MSG and Radio City Music Hall. They killed it at every performance. Radio City might have been slightly the best because it is a smaller arena than the other two and the acoustics in there are amazing.. At Nassau Coliseum, they did a song were they invited about a dozen youngish girls to come on stage and dance. One girl got a little over excited and was trying to hug Hutchinson as he sang. A HUGE security guard came out and was very rough with her and picked her up to carry her off stage. Hutchinson saw this. Now Hutchinson is a smallish dude but he came up from behind the security guard and pushed him in the back to get his attention. Then he meekly put the girl down and you could hear Hutchinson say in his mic, "don't you ever treat one of our fans like that again." Correct. As a drummer I find the gated snare sound of the 80s incredibly annoying though. Good for dancing I guess.
