  • Not every fishing trip goes as planned…
    On this particular day, I had planned to do a new lure experiment testing the MirrOlure MirrOdine vs. Rapala SubWalk, but the day was full of surprises.
    The first unexpected event was actually a pleasant surprise!
    As you’ll see in the video, the sun was barely up and I didn’t want to introduce the lure experiment in the dark, but I caught my first trout almost immediately, so I had to do an impromptu introduction.
    Nothing like getting the party started as soon as you get out on the water, right?
    But after that trout is when my experiment started to not go as planned… I had to introduce another lure.
    And I got a surprise visit from an unwanted guest (often referred to as the “tax collector”).
    Watch this video to see why the result of day 1 of the multi-day experiment.
    Have any questions about this experiment? Let me know down in the comments!

    the correct way to work a mirrordine is twitch twitch pause it's an erratic bait that's what triggers the strike you dont throw it and reel it

    Seems like a commercial for your paddle tails. Would have rather seen the results of the hard plastic baits, even though the bite was slow.

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  5 лет назад +6

      Sorry that it came across that way... the core lesson was just to have a paddletail (of any brand) for days like this because they can sure be helpful in getting bailed out of tough days. The results on day 1 for the hard plastic baits was 1 trout for the MirrOdine and nothing for the SubWalk.

    I would love to see Salt Strong test and compare some Yo-Zuri Inshore Lures. They make top water, twitch baits, jerk baits, darters, etc. They are more affordable than Rapala's and better constructed than Mirrolure.

    I have had good luck with the larger mirrodine xl for trout and the smaller mirrodine at night time on lights for again trout. I have never caught a redfish on a mirrodine during the day or night fishing. I’m not really sure if it’s the action or what but I do think it has something to do with the way it suspends. My experience is great for trout but no good for redfish. I’ve done good with plastics on redfish and sometimes top water as well as spoons especially gold spoons.

    What part of the water column were you working the hard bait? How fast were you working it? What type of retrieve? I by far have better luck with MirroLure MirroDine in spring through fall than Paddletails. I adjust my retrieve for each species as well. Also adjust color, and size based on water and weather conditions.

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  5 лет назад +2

      I was working the all of the lures just above the seagrass, and I was changing the spead and tempo of the retrieve continuously to try to dial into what gets the best response.

    I never have good luck with the hard baits like I do with paddle tails and spoons in the harbor.

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  5 лет назад +1

      The large amount of seagrass in the harbor definitely gives the paddletails an advantage given that they can be rigged weedless and don't have treble hooks that are prone to snag any sort of debris/structure in the water.

    Why not use the Rapala”Twitching Mullet”? It’s more comparable to the MirrOdine than the SubWalk.

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  5 лет назад +1

      Mostly because I like the SubWalk MUCH more than the Twitching Mullet (I've tested the Twitching Mullet vs. the SubWalk a couple times, and I always seem to catch more fish on the SubWalk). But also because it's size is closer to the MirrOdine which is nice because it keeps that factor consistent.

    Fine fishing video
    Terrible review video
    You really owe a little more effort to the viewers and the manufacturers of the two suspending twitchbait lures.
    They are designed to be worked back in a walk the dog type action twitch reel twitch twitch reel.
    You worked them all like a paddle tail.
    No offense intended
    Hopefully constructive criticism.
    Thanks

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  7 месяцев назад

      We appreciate you watching and giving us the feedback! Twitchbaits like these can be retrieved in a variety of ways. Straight retrieve, twitch twitch pause, or the walk the dog as you mentioned. It depends on how the fish are feeding, the depth you are fishing, and a few other factors. The purpose of this test however was to maintain consistency and show the two brands of lures. Thanks again for watching!
