To come from never fishing to master class fisherman is baffling. This is a great presentation not only from a teaching standpoint but also to hear how Tony thinks.
After watching video I used a 3/8 oz double barbed gold jig and a 3" new penny gulf shrimp. I let it set longer in an oyster bed after twitching and caught a nice snook. Great video and great suggestions. Thanks for the tips!
I love working the Gulp shrimp only new penny 1/8 mission jig chart. This time of year I catch flounder keepers pb was 5 lbs 8 oz in the summer time on a 4 in new penny mission jig chart 1/8 oz I use 3 in winter time
In SoCal we rig New Penny with the dark coppery side up (the back) so your way would be upside down. We do Nuclear Chicken with the greenish side down, and Natural with the dark side up. I guess it works both ways depending upon where you fish
Hey Tony, Great video and I found it really helpful. Watched this yesterday, then went out and caught a double double (2 reds, 2 snook) in about an hour of fishing using this exact rig/action. Couldn't find a trout to complete the slam, but I ain't complaining!
try the Nuclear Chicken. i have used all three and had times the Nuclear Chicken got the most hits. the bad is all gulp now are so soft they are about a one hit bait and way to costly to waste. i sure wish they would go back to original as I'd catch a bunch of fish on the same bait. i have been using circle under cork but plan to try this rig as it looks good.
Nice info! I’m always learning something here. Can you please tell me how to work the lure for flounder? Thank you very much and tight lines my friend.🎣
Would love to join but I’m in Australia. Anyhow, love watching you guys for hints etc..... and try to adapt for our conditions and species 😉 Carol, Sydney, Australia (rookie senior kayak fishette)
Thx for the video...great info. I usually find when I get a hit in the beginning and miss it, or don't land the fish, they lose interest. I try to get them back interested but seems like once they realize its not real, I can't get them back biting.

This may be a stupid question but are you just rigging this up to your main spool line ? For example if I’m running 20lb braid would it be good to rig to that or would I need a leader of some sort

for sure. i fish it a lot when i get sick of rigging a live shrimp on a cork. ive caught 100s of trout and many other species including, spanish mack, and even cobia on the gulp shrimp.
@@yestochrist4391 i use the egg shape cajun thunders. to the best of my knowledge, the cork doesnt matter. i dont typically fish reds with a cork. ive head better luck freelining a shrimp on the bottom for reds.
They swim slowly forwards and scoop quickly backwards with flick of their tail so if you're trying to imitate a slowly swimming shrimp it's better to rig it the way he did
There’s plenty of scent off the gulp as is. There’s no need to add fresh dead shrimp which might impede the hook set or will likely just fall off when twitching the bait
I love salt strong for their how to vids but if you are joining for the discount I don't think that is a good reason. The break even point on the membership fee is spending 500 dollars each year on gear.
uuuh if you watch the video he rigged the hook coming out of the back. ive never heard of rigging the hook out the belly side. that would present an unnatural look to the fish
@@Yak-life just rig it the normal way but if you do rig it the opposite way I have no doubt it’ll still work. The fish are more likely to notice the scent, profile, and action before they’ll notice that you put the hook out the other end
That gulp stuff smells too much. I refuse to use it anymore. It permanently stinks up whatever it touches and always leaks out of whatever container they come in. I'd rather catch slightly less fish than deal with that stench.

Nice Black drum tip
Thanks!
What rod are you using. I love the bend and sensitivity
All Star Classic Series. Only because I used to have one in the 7’6”
Can you also rig it where the hook comes out of the back instead of the belly?
Tony,
Great detailed information. Thanks so much!!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!

leader for sure! fluorocarbon leader
Fluoro IF the water is clear… but if you are fishing around structure (docks, piling, etc.), then use mono for its abrasion resistance.
P-Line Floroclear 20 or 25

Damn that’s a well cut video, just caught the catches, gotta watch from the start now
Wondering why you rig it with the lighter side up, as most fish are darker on top and lighter underneath...
This has been covered extensively. The New Penny color by Gulp has the white on top.
Very good! I like it!
Glad to hear that! Thanks for checking it out!
Do you fish the gulp shrimp under popping cork? If so, is that a good method in the fall?
for sure. i fish it a lot when i get sick of rigging a live shrimp on a cork. ive caught 100s of trout and many other species including, spanish mack, and even cobia on the gulp shrimp.
@@bryanlammers384 what type of cork do you pop? Does the sound truly matter? Is the cork different for trout vs reds?

Stank shrimp !!!! Always a good bait for trout
Tony, it looks like you put the shrimp on upside down?
Also, shrimp scoot backwards. Wouldn’t it make more sense to rig them tail first?
They swim slowly forwards and scoop quickly backwards with flick of their tail so if you're trying to imitate a slowly swimming shrimp it's better to rig it the way he did
What is your setup?
Nice video thanks brother
Great insights.Thanks for sharing
Gulp shrimp is a cheat code
Another trick to improve strikes is tip the jig hook with small piece of fresh dead shrimp.
There’s plenty of scent off the gulp as is. There’s no need to add fresh dead shrimp which might impede the hook set or will likely just fall off when twitching the bait
If I remember correctly. You guys said, gulp started to skimp out on their plastics. As they don't last long for the price
It’s a fact bro you get like one fish per bait nowadays

Hi sir. I'm still waiting on a reply reply if you can have the hook come out on the back side instead of the belly side.

Just think how much plastic we are feeding our fish.
