I don’t know if it will ultimately change your overall results a lot, but on the app, click the gear icon next to the PS4 icon, then click “motor settings”, then choose the axis, then change your max RPMs on the motor to something very small, like 500 for both setup speed and move speed, Also, adjust the damping to 80-99% (results may vary). You need to configure all this here to keep it from trying to run too fast and the damping will smooth out the jerkiness that you are seeing. For sure that tripod is not helping the wiggles ;) - And funny enough, if you do separate the SSP controller from your phone a few feet, it will help. The math on that? I dunno, but it does help. Detailed tests though. Thanks for taking the time to put it all together.

Hey Scott! Good to hear from you!
My SSR app is not the same, its the gear on top not by the controller. I mention this because its possible you are on iOS and maybe it was better implemented?
When reviewing the footage I did change the global speed multiple times, but it seemed to be a crap shoot as to if it makes any difference. I know they took months to release the Android version of it, maybe they rushed the Android version? All of the issues seem to echo the same sorts of problems I've run into with kOS on the ipad though.
The PS4 controller just seems to use the native wireless controller drivers on the mobile which is built in for casual gaming, which means the controller can control about any app on the phone, its not there just for the SSR. This can cause problems because you can see where I just adjusted the damping and speed but when I touched the PS4 controller instead of panning it raised that back up to 100, so it alters settings instead of just positioning/control. That was my bad, but when watching further you can see in consistencies with speed and the result of using the top speed%.
When I started it, the first time you see the speed limit it is set at 21%
I tried to bump it down from 21% to 11% at the 8:11 mark I looked up and tried to move and did not see the controller kicked it back to 100%, so it should be moving fast. However it did not change the feel at all. It still had slower moves. It still seemed to be moving at 21%
However, after resetting the system because the timelapse got bungled, the movements were suddenly fast again when trying to move at the 15:33 mark.
at 15:40 I knock it back down to 29 at and it does slows down for a few moments, then it seems to start moving fast again.
16:26 knocked it down to 19, and it is still moving as if it was at 100% as minor adjustments with the control yield fast moves. At this point, the max speed is set at the slowest speed I have tried in the video. But it is moving faster than it was at 100% earlier after the 8:11 mark.
(my slides around this area over the SSR app seem to be off on their times which will probably cause confusion, i guess I messed up in editing, I may rework it and re-upload)
Maybe ill give it another go and use the motor damping section you mentioned. I mean, if I am the asshole here and messing up, it would be good to know, I want to make sure these are not self created problems for sure! If I get some better results I will update the video. I would think if the speed adjustment was properly implemented you could make these changes individually or globally and get good results. But either way, the speed/damping problems were just one of the issues I ran into.
5:55 mark, I try to do a light right pan, it starts and does not stop and continues to move even without touching the stick on the controller. (this happens to me all the time in kOS and i have a ton of bts footage of me yelling and cussing at the system as i spend 30 minutes trying to setup a multilapse just to have some weird thing happen then i have to restart from scratch) It is almost as if the system continues with the last command received, and any drops in comm while moving result in continued moves, whereas if there are any telemetry issues it should stop moving. But thats just a suspicion.
8:22 mark, lightly holding steady and it will slowly creep, then stop, then creep, then jump in speed. (I think this is backlash but at this magnification you get to see how the backlash is handled by pretty much any system, if this IS how this system handles it, that makes live moves even more difficult)
Often the focus moved nice and slow but multiple times the focus would make sudden erratic major changes when trying to move it very gently.
      9:47, 10:10, 10:14, 11:05,
At 14:45 the tilt starts moving down without the controller, I'm not touching the phone, the SSPro, or the PS4 remote. I dont know if this is because it was initializing, but initializing should not cause it to start moving on its own. Imagine setting up a complex 15 keyframe move just to drop connection for a moment, having it reinitialize, and the camera repositions itself. you would have to start it all over again. Thats some jibba jabba right there. lol
I promise I am really not trying to pick on the second shooter. I have two 4 axis kits and really want them to work flawlessly. But this does a good job of showing what my normal experience is with it. I honestly think the big problem is me because unlike 99% of people who buy these systems never do anything more complex than a 2 keyframe move, I want to use all the features. KOS, SSR, multilapse, event, all of it. So I am finding bugs. Case in point, if you have not updated your firmware in the last month, and you set a move using the external intervalometer the pro controller (or plus controllers) will short the trigger non stop so the camera fires once unless on burst mode, in which if fires continuously, and this will happen with any of the firmwares since 2018 on the PRO or PLUS controllers. How is it nobody has used an external intervalometer in 3 years? Its because 99% of people only use 5% of the systems capability. I think some revamping of their regression testing would really alleviate these issues. I have found quite a few bugs and most of them were easy to locate and re-create.
I am gearing up to start filming strawberries with both these rigs. They did pretty well on the lettuce hydroponic shoot. Hoping they do well on this one too, i would love to use the multilapse to get 6 cameras of footage, but so far multilapse has not worked out well because of the worrkflow and bugs :(
Oh yeah, and at the 10:49 mark you get to see an aphid blow a bubble with its butt. lol

@@BiolapseStudios You wrote me a short story! - Nah, I don’t think you’re being an ass. These are your observations. I haven’t used Android so yea, that could be completely different. I think you mentioned you use kos on ipad? If so, try setting the motor settings on kos and the damping. And If you are on ipad, install SSR on it and try the settings. I don’t know why the app does what it does but I know that changing the motor settings has a much great effect than the manual move settings. If I recall, the manual move settings apply to the motor settings so if you have them set to 500rpm and then adjust manual move settings, it will be an even finer adjustment. The strange thing with the damping is I don’t see any effect until 80%. I saw you went above 80 once. I have been at 96 before when I was doing micro adjustments just to keep them very smooth. Also, change your joystick response rate to log instead of linear and configuring the pan.tilt. To the joystick instead of the d-pads may help. And, finally for the backlash, there is a backlash adjustment on the controller. Place a laser pointer on the head, point it at the wall and put a piece of tape on the spot. Turn on the backlash compensation and adjust until the laser pointer stops moving. That can make a world of difference. What I have no answer for is those rapid random moves. I did experience that on the very early versions of the beta but they had fixed if several versions back. I called it runaway mode. I don’t have any knowledge of the Android app so it could still be present there.
Anyway, I enjoy these types of videos. Also, what lens is that, it looks like “Holy Hell Fun!” - like would be a lot of fun and pull your hair out at the same time!

@@ScottBalkum I managed to carve out a little time, no filming just playing. Damping the motors the was you suggested really does give an improvement. I d9nt have time to film it but I'll update the comment that I need more time to test. While the 500/80 makes a huge improvement, still had 3 initialization and one pan run wild while setting up. Ugh.
Also not sure why doing the global change did not affect much as seen the video. I'll get an updated posted here as soon as I have a chance.
I'll work on this. I appreciate your time and comments for sure!

@@chrisfield7008 Heh, in the end, we all just want gear that works and if there is a way I can help, I’m always happy to. As for the initializations, I haven’t a clue what is happening there.
