I quit after halo 3 way back when. When I picked up the MCC on PC I played the newer ones it was so soulless it's unreal. Really sad.

“Halo was a competitive game”
No man…Halo was a game you played with the boys, the family with split screen, doing goofy shit in multiplayer, playing campaign together, fucking around in forge together, and downloading and playing forge maps.
At its core Halo was a party game, it brought people together and created memories that have stuck with the fans for years now. The game was competitive only in the sense that it had a high skill ceiling, if you wished to approach this game this way you could but it was not the focal point.
I miss what halo was about, truly, the days I spent with family and friends for years are something I will be eternally grateful to bungie for. But to see 343 make a mockery out of a game that could have given those level of memories to a new generation of potential halo fans is quite sad all in all. As a halo veteran I was hoping to rekindle that experience with old and new friends, but with the “competitive” direction they took, I guess that will never be the case. So much for making new friends through halo like the old days.

E-Sports were a mistake.
@@DonVigaDeFierro I don’t think it was tbh. E-sports works completely fine in a lot of games. It could have also worked completely fine even in Halo Infinite, I just don’t know why they decided to make that the fucking focal point of the game when it never was.
Halo was one of the first actual multiplayer FPS games, so it was competitive.
@@markmikha3633it was only ever eSports to me but maybe you've got a point. If they'd focus on party mode instead we may have a larger player base. Now it's just full of sweats haha
Halo was the first game I saw on TV where pros would play each other. It was 100% one of if not the first competitive console FPS games...
Man Halo 3 was my actual childhood. All the custom games were the only ways I made friends back then from Duck Hunt, Jenga, Cops and Robbers, Fat Boy, etc. it was so unreal how you could just start up a lobby and end up playing with multiple people that you don't even know and just have a fun time. Nowadays it just feels like games mostly focus on the aspect of winning and ranked/esports. The gaming sphere feels so much more disconnected since it's all about competition now. Maybe just my nostalgia kicking in though, but I don't see 14+ lobbies of strangers playing fun games anymore.
They still play it on the halo mcc custom game browser there’s a lot of game modes there.
Especially like in Call of Duty where they purposefully disband lobbies so you don't get to play with people again or have your revenge match. They have to make sure that the skill-based matchmaking slaps you into a different Lobby.
Halo 3 is when it ended. Halo Reach was a fun 6 hour campaign but the Multiplayer was awful. Halo Reach fans are just little brothers playing a popular title in name only

Same, life for me was perfect back then. I would lose 10 years of my life just to go back and enjoy a week of Halo 3 with the boys.

Try the Master Chief Collection. It is fixed now and a great experience for new and old players. Also it is in game pass, i think. For PC/Xbox.
Edit: If you want the best experience in mp queue only reach. It has by far the best gameplay and it feels relativley fresh for todays standart compared to the others.

Great point, it’s worth adding that with a new generation being ushered in to experience video games, it’s important to remind them of HOW GOOD an online game CAN BE. The bar is very high and those that were too young to experience great franchises of the early aughties should keep their expectations high! The industry ain’t like it used to be.

The only franchise not being actively ruined is probably resident evil. A huge fan my whole life and every title only gets better
DOOM games, both classic and modern, have been shown a ton of love and respect these past few years.
I've played only infinite and I am trying to catch up on this franchise and it hurts to see what it has been and what it has become. Truly a work of art
definitely go back and play the old ones. even though its not quite the same it would be an injustice not to if you like infinite.
Just install the Master Chief Collection (it is fixed and much better now). I would play them in order of release, but Halo 3 is the pinnacle of Microsoft as a publisher and Bungie at the peak of their powers. Just the most insanely good game at the perfect time.

getting home after school playing team swat but everyone sucks ass and cant aim/doesnt have a turtlebeach hypercock big-ballspro controller, the lobby is 8 12 year olds and a 38 year old single dad fringing on alcohol addiction, then at 11pm ypu get tired, but the UK boys you met in a swat game came back online from their nap, and invite you to a custom game with what felt like 20 other people from uk/us , all shit talking and having fun, then falling asleep at 4am and being late every day for school lmao

The end had me tearing up. Halo was my childhood like many others here and to see it get to the state its in is truly crushing and heart-breaking. The music , the trailers, the gameplay, the campaigns, the multiplayer experiences with friends across the first 3 games and then reach were on a another level. We never knew how good we had it until it was gone and we were faced with what replaced it. Rest in power halo and thank you for everything!💚

Thing is our childhood favourite games got bought up by large corporations, so sales always come first and user experience is only matters if everyone quits.
Trust me. Every halo player that played since the first halo would give up anything to be able to play the story for the first time again. Very well written to the point they made books about it. So much they turned one of the books into a game. That's how deep this game was with fans.

I played the master chief collection, the campaigns are true masterpieces.
This is my 3rd time seeing this crowbcat video now and the ending still fucks me up. Halo 2-3 online was the peak of gaming for me. Throw in COD4 and MW2 as well and its the golden era. So many good memories.

Master chief was a boy that was indoctrinated and made into a living weapon, his ai a machine was made human, together they completed eachother.

I wont ever get that pure feeling of nostalgia for any game other than Halo, Combat evolved was my first console game when it came out, I must've done the campaign with my friends at least 20+ times, same with Halo 2 ( my personal favourite) Halo 3 was on another level, everything was amazing and I had my first taste of ranked matches. It did make me tear up purely because that feeling of still being in school, no worries no issues, just you and your mates having a great time, you dont realise it till you're older, im now 30, my friends have wives, kids and other responsibilities, I would love to just go back to them days for a short while to appreciate it more. Games when you're older (or just now as they're not made as good ) just don't feel the same, £59.99 for a 5 hour boring campaign, extremely repetitive and a microtransaction mess, Halo will always be the best series i've ever played and i will love it & defend it to the grave ... untill Halo 5 onwards.

What happened to custom games man... its like somewhere along the line people just forgot that games can have custom gamemodes and acessible workshops, and sandbox type gameplay is only reserved for games like minecraft that were built specifically for that game style.
overwatch has a 'decent' workshop. Not great, honestly needs a lot more toolkit, but its the best the industry will do nowadays and that's a pity

I sold my PS2 to buy an Xbox to play Halo. It was a tough call since the PS2 had so many classics, but that's how bad I wanted to play Halo. There's no way I would do that in 2022, and that's sad.

Remember back in the days of Halo 3 how you could play many rounds with the same people of Multiplayer then someone would suggest a custom game and everyone would join them in a mad dash to see what they had saved only to be roasted if they messed up. Halo 3 was truly a monster of its time and still even today no game has had as many social features as Halo 3 did in its heyday.
I feel bad for the Halo franchise. It didn't deserve to go down the route it did.

I have a tradition where I dust off the old Xbox from 2007 and boot up halo 3 to play through the campaign with my bro every year or so, we both are so nostalgic for the old halo experience mane it was such a good game and the community felt so alive
I think halo 4 was a very good game, it was the first time meeting halo in my life
but now I play Destiny 2
4 was a decent game on it's own but a very bad Halo game. It would have been better were it not asociated with the halo franchise
4's campaign sucked. The insta teleport guys made the pacing slog down to some ww1 trench warfare. If you play Halo 1 you can see the enemies are very readable with their animations purposely, and it feels really satisfying to be able to read them and get the upper hand.
I remember as a kid seeing Chief throw down that bubble shield in the trailer and wished I had a Xbox.

343 Halo is about style over substance.
Bungie Halo was about fun and community.
That’s it. That sums everything up, and explains why Halo is a dead, dehydrated shell of its former self.
