Back in 2002 Merchant Navy 35005 'Canadian Pacific' was put into a week long program, of runs Between Eastleigh and Yeovil Junction, in order to train EWS Footplate crews. Tickets were offered at just £10, so enthusiasts snapped up the seats on the runs. This video covers the run on the 18th April, and features plenty of onboard action, as 35005 makes some serious noise up front.
Hopefully this mighty Merchant will return soon, unfortunately not to the mainline tho.

I remember these series of runs well, unfortunately the one I booked to go on from Eastleigh I never got further than sitting in the coach. The driver caused a SPAD coming into platform 3, so that was it, everyone had to get off, the train and CanPac were hauled back into the sidings. So Steam Dreams refunded the ticket cost. I imagine they lost a reasonable amount of income plus the inconvenience of losing two trips of driver training that day.

That's a shame, would be great if they ever ran again.

Great footage, i wonder if DB Cargo (Schenker) has ever done this since they took over EWS?
