Reportedly Adventure was one of DCs top-selling titles in that era, for example in the very early 1960s it was outselling Justice League. Remember too that since those were mid-run issues, people were acquiring their copies via mail subscription as well, which was not the case for brand new titles. I have seen copies of #247 in person but never had the pleasure of owning one.
That's an interesting point about the subscriptions. Were those folded at the time? I haven't handled enough books from this era to know off the top of my head. I just checked the Standard Catalog, which has published circulation statements starting in 1960. In 1960, Adventure was at around 500,000. Very close the main Batman title. Superman was at around 800,000. I will start adding information like that when I have it for the rest of the keys.
