My home security camera (Defender Guard) points at my driveway and the street in front of my house. All vehicle license plates are automatically blurred through the software (even when stationary). Do you think this is for legal reasons, and is there a way to turn that setting off so I can see the numbers? I mean, what's a security camera for?
The comical thing about this system blurring the plates is...the system as to be able to identify a license plate so it can blur it. Which means it has the ability to ID and record plates. i agree i bought 3 arlo's and someone turning around bumped my front end in my driveway one night and could not read the plate so i was told their was nothing i could do all these outside security camera's they sell are not worth the money. i know i will never buy arlo products again
It has much of its operation built into the camera but for full features it should be paired to an NVR, otherwise you have very limited recording and plate number storage capability. Thanks

Yes, true LPR cameras have the filters to adjust for glare, headlights and taillights.

No, unfortunately Lorex is consumer grade and a closed system.

Does it run separate to the computer or must it go to an nvr?
You can monitor and record to a PC using the client software that comes with the camera but best performance comes from a 4K NVR.

I just got some Ring security cameras they're horrible video quality can't even see a number or letter on a license plate.
Correct, if you want plates you have to be intentional about it. A dedicated camera is usually required. www.backstreet-surveillance.com/cs-lpr.html
