- A trip to Duxford with my friend, Sam. We toured a B-17 called Sally B and then got a puncture when we got back to Hawksview! Fun day! A big thank you to Steve, the owner of Hawksview who helped us run tools back and forth to replace the inner tube!
Excellent video.
Like you said Duxford is a great place to fly or drive to , the airshows throughout the season are excellent.
Joining The Sally B Supporter’s Club is a great way to keep her flying, 2025 will be her 50th airshow season.
Great vid! I love flying into Duxford and have to pinch myself every time... there and Old Warden. So many amazing things to see and do, and you've just captured beautifully one of the many reasons to visit! 👌🏻👍🏻
That is very kind of you - thank you! It really is quite an incredible place. I will be going back soon and making sure I have have set aside enough time for a more thorough look around!
Made a donation to the Sally B fund after watching this video.....what a thrill it must have been Nick getting close up and personal with Sally B.
That’s a lovely Gesture, Nick. I am sure it will be greatly appreciated! Thank you for watching!
That was a great video!
How lucky were you to get into Sally! 😮 Soooo jealous!
Sam looked liked like he was settling into the EuroFOX 👍🏼
Thanks Geoff. Yes it was a massive privilege and very unexpected surprise! Quite humbling too - makes us 600kg pilots pale into insignificance somewhat!!!!
Good to see Anna back on the channel, albeit in flashback
But you definitely need to update your intro now 😂
If you'd asked me, would leave it as the intro, think it's the most beautiful of your planes.
@@Delibro a good pointb
Thanks Phil. She will come up again soon! Yes I have been meaning to film a new intro for a while actually!
That face on Anna when she realized it :) Priceless :) That face anyways... :)
Anna ? She wasn't in the video...😕
@@Keinerboy 3:51 - 4:51 :)
Haha yes. That was a fun flight!
@@Delibro Oh yes. How did I miss Anna !
We all miss Anna !
I see Sam has just purchased gcocg. Congrats that’s a fine aircraft.
It’s an awesome aircraft!!!! 😄😉👍🏼
It certainly looks that way and yes it is indeed!
@@FlyingDarkLord it’s as if it was spec’d out by some sort of genius to make it a pleasure to fly. Fuel injection, dynon avionics, utter babe magnet… the list goes on 😜
Very nice video Nick. We are lucky as Duxford is only 20 mins flying time for us. B17 visit looked great and must have been a nice surprise. Have you seen the Hurricane flight video I did for John at Duxford, when his son flew him in the only two seat version anywhere in the world?
Hey Tim - I have just caught up on it this morning! That was a really kind thing to do to create that video for John. A memory to treasure for years to come! It was indeed a nice surprise to have a tour of such an incredible aircraft. Duxford is superb - I can’t wait to go back! We’re very lucky to have a place like that in the UK - they are a dying breed for sure which is very sad.
Good to see an example of what happens when you have a flat on landing in a small aircraft, nothing unmanageable thankfully!
Did you find anything actually in the tyre, or just the hole/split? Curious what caused the puncture, debris on the runway, taxiway or apron at Duxford presumably? How did you repair it, new inner tube? Also did it actually blow out on landing, (loud bang, big split in the tube and the tyre partially leaving the rim), or do you think it was already flat by the time you came in to land?
Sorry for all the questions I just find this really interesting owning a microlight (Flight Design CT2K) myself and love to learn!
It was a faulty valve in the end. Replaced the tube and all was good again. It was not the simplest setup to remove the tube though as there were a lot of different tools required which I have now added to my touring kit.
That was brilliant Nick, good to see the Sally B up and personal and luckily the weather was great even if it meant you had to spend the evening changing the tube. BTW was it a screw or FOD in the tyre that caused it?
Thanks Terry! High praise from you! Such a beautiful aircraft and amazing they are able to keep her flying. Tyre turned out to be a faulty valve actually which was strange but thankfully it happened at Hawksview as I was hugely unprepared to deal with that elsewhere! I have made sure I have added the tools I need to my touring kit now!
I live in a town where they trained B17 pilots and gunners during WWII. As a child we could find spent machine gun cartridges and the bits of chain that held the rounds together lying around out in the prairie. There are probably some still out there. My father was Army Air Corps during the war so please excuse me if I tear up. “STD, that’s an unfortunate registration”😂😂.
Looks awesome.😎 Do you prefer flying when it’s warm or cold?
Thank you! See I told you I would be getting another video out soon! To answer your question - I like both but in different ways. A calm winters day can be so unbelievably calm and peaceful and flying with snow on the ground is stunning. In the summer it can be very bumpy so you have to get up high to get out of the bumps but when it’s the right conditions it is also quite special! It’s hard to pick between them as at the end of summer I am about ready for some winters flying and at the end of winter I am ready for summer flying if that makes sense 😂
@@LetsGoFlying lol, that makes perfect sense. There’s things to enjoy in every season, and there’s also things you don’t enjoy in every season.
@@AdrienneBakken123 yes, very well said!
The “Race Track/Testing facility” you flew over is MIRA and you were right, manufacturers test vehicles there 👏👍👌
Ahhhhhhhhh I thought it was something along those lines! Only found out those places actually exist through old school (proper) Top Gear back in the day!
@@LetsGoFlying I work in the industry ARDS driving instructor and learning to fly the C42 currently down here on the south coast
@@JohnProut-dw5sc great stuff! How far into your training are you?
@@LetsGoFlying 17 hours in the logbook as of today, just started NAV training and 1st solo to come once I’ve got circuits and landings down to a tee lol 😂
Brilliant! Good luck with it - it’s the best thing I ever did and the C42 is a lovely machine as well!
