A few things, The mother died from complications due to untreated syphilis, which was also known by the name "Ume" back in that period of Japan. Which is so sad considering Ume also Dakis real name, and basically marking her fate as a female born into the entertainment district. Aside from the obvious parallels between the Kamado siblings and the demon duo, I also want to point out how tragic it is how the world treated Gyuutaro as a demon until he became one, and physically one later. A little detail about that is that the insults Gyutarou gave to Tanjiro at the start of last episode were the same he received as a kid. This fight has been absolutely outstanding, and adding the layer of a backstory that points out most things wrong about the entertainment district and it’s mechanisms, where the beautiful are favored, and yet so powerless and disposable is adding the cherry to the top.
In S2E14, Daki got burned by Nezuko's blood demon art and said "just like that day, fire", kind of foreshadowing what she went through when she was still human😢 The words Gyutaro said to Tanjiro "not protecting your sister, disgraceful, coward, sad sack, good for nothing" were words that others had said to him (excluding not protcting your sister) and were probably words he wanted to say to himself😢 I want to recommend Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. It's beautifully written and has amazing storytelling, character design, animation, and music.
I too was going to recommend Frieren. The fact that it has such a great story that is not focused around combat, but still has amazing combat scenes makes it all that much better for it.
Anime is a wonderful art form, but sometimes it addresses topics that are taboo for us in the West or that we think that they should be treated differently. Always remember this when watching a new series. The Japanese people have been through terrible situations throughout time and (to use the story of Gyutaro as an analogy) they ended up incorporating a certain harshness into their culture in order to survive. A big hug, I love your reactions!
It’s rather poetic that everything the townspeople called Gyutaro- worm, useless, trash, etc- is something he turned around to call Tanjiro when he was tormenting him. Hurt people hurt people, I guess.
2 more seasons! And then y'all are all caught up and waiting the next like we are! I've loved watching y'alls reactions to arguably the best modern anime.
According to Muzan (S3), Daki was holding him back, saying he could easily beat Uzui and the others if he fought on his own from the start. Gyutaro even went as far as giving Daki one of his eyes to power her up but also he could literally keep an eye on her while they fought separately. If not for Daki, Gyutaro could easily climb up the ranks but his only goal in life is to protect his sister so he seemed content to just stay inside her body and let her do what she pleased until she needed him. Fun Fact: Daki is disgusted by ugly things but not her brother. Gyutaro hates beauty but always care about his sister. They're like the twisted version of Tanjro and Nezuko. Love them so much. ❤️
Since I see so many recommendations I suggest Kimi Ni Todoke it's a shoujo story, so it'd be a bit different, relatively old ( around 15 years for the first seasons of the anime) but a clasic, most importantly, you get to hear Oikawa be the greenest of green flags and prototype for near perfect love interest (so maybe you warm up to his voice😜)
Daki/Gyutaro and Nezuko/Tanjiro are the perfect dichotomy to each other in every single way: familial relationship, environment, the people surrounding them. It's interesting when you think about how N/T could've ended up like D/G had the circumstances been different. D/G were saved by a demon and became demons, whereas N/T were saved by a demon slayer and became demon slayers. Their lives pretty much dictated who their saviors were and led them toward separate paths. Also, iirc the reason Daki stabbed the samurai guy in the eye is because he was saying terrible things about Gyutaro. She loves her brother and ofc wouldn't tolerate that kind of talk. Also, I believe the reason she was facing towards the light is because she wasn't the one who agreed to become a demon. She didn't make the choice. It was her brother who made the choice, which is why she had the opportunity to go to Heaven.
Warren Buffett often discusses what he calls "the ovarian lottery" - the random chance of being born into a particular time, place and identity. Gyuutaro and Ume were extremely unlucky victims of poor draws. It’s so heartbreaking that Gyuutaro only wished for a better draw for his sister. 😭
Mentioning Attack on Titan, Fullmetal and Hunter x Hunter as next possibilities really hyped me up hahaha Someone pointed out about Frieren and i just wanted to upvote that as well. Amazing characters, story and animation ❤️❤️❤️ [Fullmetal spent many years as the 1st place on the most famous anime ranking site (mostly due to its fanbase), but Frieren surpassed it with only one season ❤️❤️❤️]
i believe the reason tanjiro was so kind to these two specifically is because he empathized with their situation. if you recall he was thinking that him and nezuko could be in their place... he understands the bond of siblings and he doesnt want to see them going down fighting each other when each other was all they had. Is Gyutaro evil tho? Or what we are supposed to get out of this is.... with the way everyone was treating him that was his only chance of survival? he was either gonna die or fight and play to his strengths... being he was good at violence and he could command fear. That was the only way he could keep himself and his sister alive. Being vicious and demonic...
we need more Tanjiros in the world. imagine if guys like him went to the entertainment areas just to save people? Gyutaro woulda had a chance and provably better names.
As i see other comments also say i really think some of the recommendations for animes u guys can watch in my opinion and those of which i would really like to see your opinions on are Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Gurren Lagaan Ranking of Kings Mob Psycho 100 Howl's Moving Castle (Movie) Kaguya-Sama Love is War sorry if this was a bit self serving of a comment looking forward to you guys's reactions in the future and i wish u the best of success
Daki and Gyutaro are my favorite demons. I'm not defending them for what they've done, I just think that they have the most compelling back story especially when you contrast it with Tanjiro and Nezuko's situation. Gyutaro went down a dark path to protect his sister. At this point in time, there's little we know of what Tanjiro's willing to sacrifice for Nezuko besides turning into a demon himself since he refused Gyutaro's offer. Gyutaro and Daki lost sight of what was most important to them after over a century of killing people and doing Muzan's biddings until Tanjiro reminded them of it at the end. It's a touching story of a wholesome family bond that took a couple of very wrong turns, some due to the environment they were raised in, that eventually turned them into monsters.
I'm super excited for you both to watch the next season! Yes I do agree that most hashiras that we haven't encountered are made to have bad impressions at first so I was very happy when Tengen finally grew on you guys. I love all the hashiras so much!
Oh Snake Hashira, you will conquer that's hearts in future, I believe in you! So let's go for the next season! You two will love so much! I can't wait. Observation: Every demon in this show they were not reborn. At least the author portrayed them in a way that it was not because they wanted to, but they did many cruel things. I'm not an expert in Buddhism or Shintoism, so I can't confirm the reason.
My all-time favorite season so far. Everything is just incredible. The story? Chef’s kiss 💋 The fight scenes? Insane! It always impresses me, even if it’s not my first time watching. The siblings’ story makes me cry every time-like, literally every time! I put on a face mask while watching this reaction and end up masking my face with tears instead 🤣 And oh my goshh! If you two react to Hunter x Hunter, I’ll just die with a smile and be reborn to watch your reaction! 😂 So pleaseee, I keep thinking how amazing it would be if you watched this anime. One of the best ❤ and yes, an all-time favorite for me too!! By the way, your predictions get more polished with every episode. 😆
The stories of the anime you want to watch next are all intense and heavy. At this point, I hope you take a moment to relax and heal with something like 「Natsume's Book of Friends」.
Oh, Adam would have kicked that head at some kid causing him to spin in mid-air. I like this episode a lot. Very good writing. I had the same thought process with the Beetlejuice Harshira when I watched this episode. Nice video, can't wait for the next. And I do recommend Fullmetal Alchemist, too.
I think they bickered cause they were going to die and were going through the stages... first stage is anger. sooner or later we all learn about Muzan Jackson's crew. can't wait for the next review. :)
This is the harshness of Japanese culture back then. People get upset when this kind of thing is depicted. They say it shouldn't be shown. I call those people cowards for trying to pretend that history wasn't as cruel as it was.
it makes me smile so much watching people discover a love of anime, love the reactions and i'm all for more series in the future there are so many good ones. A few top picks i would personally recommed for a long term watch list: Oshi no ko Ao Ashi ascendance of a bookworm Jujutsu kaisen The Apothecary Diaries Mashle Mushoku Tensei solo leveling Ya Boy Kongming! My Dress-Up Darling A place further than the universe Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Vinland Saga Violet Evergarden those are all the all star hits for me over my anime journey anyway. I would include One Piece but i am always reluctant to recommend that to people just starting out since it has over 1000 episodes and a lot of filler...
I always cry thinking about the implications of Daki/Ume dying at thirteen after treating bad a client. A CLIENT. They never knew anything else other than prostitution and debt collection
Attack on Titan and Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood are both great, but I'd honestly recommend Frieren: Beyond Journey's End first. Frieren is the shortest of them all (largely because only Season 1 is out), and is just masterfully done. And I love how you can just feel the "No, don't you dare make me feel for these two" right before the backstories dropped
I have some recommendations for your anime list. Here are my recommendations: 1. Monster (it's about a doctor chasing after his former patient who become serial killer set in Germany cold war) 2. My Hero Academia (it's about hero like avengers but high schoolers. In my opinion there's so many life lesson you can learn in that anime. It's interesting) 3. Violet Evergarden (it's about an orphan girl who become a soldier but had to retire bcs she lost two of her arms) 4. Natsume Book of Friends (it's about an orphan boy who keeps moving from one relative to another because he can see ghosts. For me this anime is really heartwarming) 5. Blue Period (this one is about the passion of painter. It's really good. It also tells about the issues experienced by teenagers) 6. Attack on Titan (ofc it's about titan😁) But for attack on titan i want you to watch it after you watch so many anime. Bcs for me, attack on titan is just toooo good😄 so im afraid if u watch them earlier, your standards will rise too high for other anime hahaha. Pls consider these 6 anime😄
And here I always thought all these Upper Demons were so far gone.. 😢 Random: Finale of Entertainment District aired Feb 13, 2022 Premiere of Season 3 aired April 9, 2023 that hiatus was one of most frustrating time of anticipation I've ever had to deal through ..and I'm a One Piece fan 🤣
While I love the writing, but sometimes, just sometimes, I wish we can leave villains be just villains. I don't always want to feel sorry for them. I understand that some villains are also victims, but that doesn't justify or forgive anything for me.
Tbh, i don’t recommend you to watch hunter x hunter on camera cause they have lots of episodes (148 episodes) and you might get burnt out from it, but i do recommend you guys watch it off screen though, it’s really one of the best. AoT on the other hand is good choice and will spark interesting discussion for you.
Please react to bluelock it’s a soccer anime and I think it’s perfect timing because season 2 just came out you guys would absolutely love it trust me please 🙏
No Sarah, Hunter x Hunter and Fullmetal are horrible, difficult to watch with a bad story... There are several Animes with 12 or 24 episodes that are much better.
Imagine being Zenitsu, you go to sleep and when you wake up everything is destroyed, your friends are half-dead and both of your legs are broken.
A few things,
The mother died from complications due to untreated syphilis, which was also known by the name "Ume" back in that period of Japan. Which is so sad considering Ume also Dakis real name, and basically marking her fate as a female born into the entertainment district.

I always love Tanjiro's ability to be empathetic but not foolish. He doesn't want them to fight but nobody is going to forgive them, not even him.
In S2E14, Daki got burned by Nezuko's blood demon art and said "just like that day, fire", kind of foreshadowing what she went through when she was still human😢

Yasss can’t wait for y’all’s reaction to AoT, HxH, and FMA since it gives us an opportunity to rewatch those amazing shows along with you both.
Just remember that guy that "helped" Daki and Gyutaro.
"that's insane", "Which part?" 🤣🤣🤣
There were so many!!

I need s3 EP 1 for that one scene so bad.
炭治郎達を傷つけたのは鬼で、助けたのが人間
妓夫太郎達を傷つけたのは人間で、助けたのは鬼
We do briefly see Gyutaro reverting to a human at the end there when he's Carrying his sister through the fire. You can see it from his clothes..
Oh man I missed that!
It’s rather poetic that everything the townspeople called Gyutaro- worm, useless, trash, etc- is something he turned around to call Tanjiro when he was tormenting him. Hurt people hurt people, I guess.

FMA: Brotherhood is a gold standard anime. A must watch.
Daki/Gyutaro and Nezuko/Tanjiro are the perfect dichotomy to each other in every single way: familial relationship, environment, the people surrounding them. you two need a hug after watching their story 🫂

As i see other comments also say i really think some of the recommendations for animes u guys can watch in my opinion and those of which i would really like to see your opinions on are
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End
Gurren Lagaan
Ranking of Kings
Mob Psycho 100
Howl's Moving Castle (Movie)
Kaguya-Sama Love is War
sorry if this was a bit self serving of a comment looking forward to you guys's reactions in the future and i wish u the best of success

Tanjiro looks like he's been blocking some of Ushiwaka's spikes.

AOT is the best anime IMO. It will definitely set your standards high!!!
it makes me smile so much watching people discover a love of anime, love the reactions and i'm all for more series in the future there are so many good ones. A few top picks i would personally recommed for a long term watch list:

Ya Boy Kongming!
My Dress-Up Darling
A place further than the universe

Muzan wanting Nezuko? I don't think she's on his radar yet. Now what tasks await the trio after recovery treatments?
And here I always thought all these Upper Demons were so far gone.. 😢
