Some of my best shots came from the g12. The only reason I don’t use it anymore was because the flip screen broke. I still prefer the flip screen over a fixed screen.
I have two of this, if it had a two stop brighter lens like the Lumix lx7 and an evf it would be the perfect camera for me period. The ccd sensor colors are amazing, all the exposure and creative controls are at your fingertips and the photos are incredibly sharp.
how does this compare with the G9, G10 and G11? I've seen lots of reviews and comments online about G9 winning all of them and was wondering what made the G9 so well-loved versus the rest
My 1st G Canon was the 12 which I used in my motorcycle touring days and taking many pictures on the move. Could get it out of the tankbag, turn it on, point and shoot with just the left hand and not taking your eyes off the road hardly none. And the right hand on the throttle and returning it to the tank bag the same way. Sadly, it got dropped at about 60 mph so to a G15 I went and it got destroyed pert near the same way, Hence now have 2 G16's I use lots. Many thousands of pictures later still my #2 and 3 useage cameras with only my M50 ahead.
I have the G12 since 2012 with all the accessories. As a macro camera, it is fantastic. Same with Landscape images. Portrait not so great, but using a Lume Cube in the hot shoe or off camera gave much better results. Its a pretty good camera with one major flaw though. I have had to have the lens replaced twice, so its on its third lens. Now granted, I've taken close to 100,00 images with the G12, but that has been a weak link for me. Since I can no longer get a replacement lens for it, I use it very sparingly. I have a G15 to replace it, but the colors are not as nice as the G12 since the CCD sensor was replaced with a CMOS in the G15. The G12 is still my overall favorite compact point and shoot camera.
@@nitsssu Any time you are looking at critical photography, I would opt for an interchangeable lens camera. The point and shoots are very often capable, but low light situations can be very challenging. The newer PowerShot G7X would be a better choice in my opinion if you want to stay with a compact point and shoot. But you would need some good external lighting to get the most out of the camera.
How is the auto focus experience, David - comparing the G10 through G12? I'm kind of torn between the s95, G10, and G12. 🤔📸 You have the BEST videos on this system, so thank you!!
Is the zoom better on this camera than my iphone 13 pro max? I'm going on safari and wanted to know if you think it's worth bringing for the zoom range or any other reason why I'd bring it. There's a weight limit on luggage, otherwise I would bring my DSLR
I would say that technically the optical zoom on this camera is better but iPhone 13 Pro Max will have the advantage of having computing technology to make the images from the iPhone look better (in terms of colours and dynamic range) at the longer zoom focal lengths than from this camera. I do understand the weight limit but I think bring your DSLR would still be the better option at the end of the day especially for such an important trip since the DSLR can produce much better RAW files than this camera compact camera and also the iPhone's camera. So you can comeback with better files of the memorable moments as well. I hope this helps, it's only my opinion, at the end of the day it also depends on what camera you're are more comfortable taking pictures with since that camera will probably be the camera that you're more likely to take pictures with thus coming home with more images of the memorable moments. I thank you very much for watching. I wish you a good time, stay safe and have fun shooting :-)
Hi, I got gifted this camera and I'm still learning how to use it. Do you know if it's possible to see the info (like time and exposure) while looking on the viewfinder? I can only see them on the screen
I'm buying a camera for the first time, I'm going to take more street photos (holidays etc) and I'm stuck between g11, 12 and 16. Personally, 16 is too expensive for me and I'll have to add a lot of money to it, but 12 fits my budget, is it worth paying extra money or will 12 be enough or 11 is just okay (sorry for my english not native my language)
The G12 (and the G11) will suit you perfectly, they both have the advantage of having a CCD sensor that the G16 lacks, your photos will have that nice film look instead of looking like they were shot with a smartphone.
I have one from 2012-2013.. looks new and have hardly been used. Gonna sell it now, but are the new ones (of the same model) better? What prize is ok? Anyone know?
That's great! I think the G5 also still produces some unique looking results. Thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
I still have mine from way back when. Now that I have kids I'm using my phone ad my sole photo taking tool. Sad. I even passed on bringing the G12 to our recent trip to Japan to save space and not having to switch between two photo taking devices 🥲
I am very sorry that I mentioned the G11 too many times.. I thank you very much for watching as well as for your comment. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting :-)
to be fair, he's just comparing the previous generation to the newest generation. he's used both cameras and he's sharing his experience with both. get over yourself and if you don't like it, make your own videos.
Thank you for watching and also for your suggestion. I have indeed tried writing a script but it was much longer than since there are actually a lot of things I wanted to say. Furthermore, every time I try writing scripts for my videos, it has always sounded so scripted in an obvious way. That said, I am trying to improve my content and I am deeply sorry that you don't like my content. I really am trying to improve them... I find it unusably slow in daily busy life. focus is ultra slow. any 5 year old flagship - smartphone will destroy this camera in any metrics. convenience, speed, image quality, night performance.
@@intraw831thank you for your reply! I always thought the cmos sensor was way superior to the ccd sensor... my powershot g16 just broke, but I have a g12 from before that is working. Maybe I don't need to buy a new camera then 🤔
Bought in 2011, and still bring it everywhere i go!
Actually, it's actually a great little solid pocket camera if you actually have an actual oversized winter jacket pocket. Actually.
I actually understand. Actually.
Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

LIKE YOU ACTUALIZED the ACTUAL ACTUALITY of this ACTUAL camera

Currently have the LX7 and I really enjoy using the Dynamic Monochrome mode on it to take amazing B&W photos.
Nothing compares to the G12 colours

do you think it would work good in forensics/ crime scene photograph taking?

Not 80-100 Euro anymore. Mint G12s are now selling well above original retail!
Really, I have one that is almost new setting on the shelf.

Could you make a comparison video of the G12 and Iphone 16 pro max?
Funny enough, I prefer the photos I've taken with my G12 over the photos I got from my Nikon Z50.
Thank you so much very helpful to get me decide which one to buy

Hi hope you are doing well.
I have a question, Which do you prefer between G12 and SX500?
como hacerla hd?
Got it a few days ago. I just discovered that you cant use the color profiles on the jpeg+raw config. Wondering if anyone knows a solution for this.
Raw doesn’t allow any color profiles.
One of the BEST Intros out there !!!!! 😊
Nice review! I was there yesterday at the same spot testing my newly acquired Olympus EM5 II and Sigma 19mm f2.8 from Marktplaats.
I still own a Powershot G5 ;-)
That's great! I think the G5 also still produces some unique looking results. Thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
I recently baught a G5 too. Perfect for bike tours for me. It has even a faster lens than the G12.

If you want video then add CHDK
Can this capture moon?
No, very limited zoom range.
David Cuhls !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good stuff !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 👍✌😊📷
Good video, greetings from Mexico, the g12 will arrive in a week, do you know what type of SD it is compatible with today?
Actually especially.
can we charge battery direclty from the camera?
Nope
I bought one in 2010, lost it and bought another one :)
Good review, but you really overuse "actually" ;-)
Actually I was curious how many more "actually" you were going to use XD
Actually XD XD XD
This is about the g12 not the g11.

I am sorry for the way I speak, I will do my best to improve my future content. I thank you for watching, I wish you a good time and have fun shooting

Keep shooting on your phone. You totally missed the point.
It’s all about the CCD sensor in the camera
@@intraw831what do you mean? What is with the ccd sensor? 🙂
@@camillaablom the sensors used before CMOS. The colors rendered differently, more organic.

Already bought one g1x based on your review. NOT AGAIN!
Why!
