Moldova is a trolleybus country, the system is not collapsing, it's in continuous development, in Chisinau there're 38 lines with more than 430 trolleybuses from 25 lines in 1991, in Balti 8 lines from 4 lines in 1991. We are proud with our trolleybus-electric system.
For some reason the media mostly failed to bring it across that the system is not closing down but is merely being renovated, together with replacing the rolling stock. The decision to fully take it offline was driven by years of neglect under the previous Tallinn government, which showed little interest in investing in the system and even considered shutting it down entirely before thankfully deciding otherwise. Unfortunately, by the time this decision was made, the damage was already done. Years of underfunding had left the system in a pretty bad state. I’ve personally experienced trolleybuses breaking down and often saw them being towed. In its final months, about half the departures were replaced by buses simply because there weren’t enough functioning trolleybuses left. For anyone worried that these promises of replacement and renovation are just empty words, there is actual progress happening. Multiple tenders are already underway, like purchasing the actual trolleybuses and upgrading the power infrastructure, including transformers. Some projects are even complete, such as ordering new copper wire for the overhead lines. All this is very expensive so I doubt they would do this all to then just not open the system back up. Overall, it seems to me that things are moving in the right direction and not everything is so bleak. There are also plans to restore some old routes that were shut down and even to extend one of them. Yes, it’s sad to lose a piece of history, but this is sadly a necessary sacrifice. Still, one old Solaris unit will be kept so at least there's that.
Recently on news there was told that after bid Škoda group won the bidding and will deliver 30 or so trolley buses with extended bettery Pack's and will brobobly be built on bodywork of SOR chezch bus manufacturer similar trolleys are running in Vilnius and Praha if i not mistaken
Basically i dont understand why are we selling them as imo they are still in quite good condition. There were few that were so-so but mostly it was good.
