GT3 was one of my first PS2 games. It was one of the reasons I first wanted a PS2. That, and the Burnout series~ But, then, I've always been into racing games. Things like Super Hang-On, Road Rash...huh, how come all the good motorcycle racing games were in that 16-bit era? I mean, we have Tourist Trophy, but...it's not quite a Gran Turismo game. Still fun for the realistic racing fans, still has the Gran Turismo style, but...that same feel of progression isn't there.
***** The only Burnout game I played was 3 Takedown and it was a lot of fun. I am also big fan of the Driver series in which Driver 2 was my very first PS1 game, then I had GT2. I like racing games a lot as well because of Gran turismo I think, I have them all up to GT5. My first console was the PSOne so I don't know much about 16 bit generation videogames, but I bet they were just as fun. You should do a video of the GT1 menus.
Imanol Kutch When I do the other Gran Turismo games, I'll probably be more thorough with it (including with this one, later). Honestly, this was just a test of my capture device. Which somehow makes up 40% of my views.
GT3 was the first video game I ever played when I was like 5-6 years old. So many memories... I remember when I beat the Arcade Mode in 4 hours once... This game is one of the best for the PS2.
Just noticed, upon looking at 4:40, the faint map they used for Special Stage Route 11 was actually the old route from Gran Turismo 1, if you look at the track map imposed on the GT-One, you can notice there's no road blatantly cutting through the middle of the track map, but instead where the road led to a straightaway under the starting highway straight.
fun fact, there is the GT1 Special Stage Route 11. I only know it from the GT3 OPS2M Demo. Have a look here in MattJ's video here ruclips.net/video/62s1VVn3Mqs/видео.html, in 7:58.
GT4 actually looks worse because of the pixel flickering everywhere and faded colors. GT3 is so full of life and playful design, even though GT4 is clearly the better game.
I remember doing the "Race of Turbo Sports" series, and there was a bloody Corvette C5-R or a Dodge Viper GTS-R amongst non-race cars like Skylines and Supra. it was the most unfair race, but if you won, it was the most fulfilling.
+Atomic Panda I seem to remember there being a "Race of Turbo Sports" in all three of the main career leagues (I kinda count Endurance and Rally in a category of their own). I know several of the series would do that, where they would stick more difficult cars into the more professional series. The Professional League Vitz race, in particular, is of such an insane difficulty. Your Vitz must be totally upgraded, you must be driving very well, and you must exploit everything. In particular...use the hardest racing tires you can so you don't have to change them. The computer seems to love having really soft tires, which you can use to your benefit. Not to mention, change your oil...getting new oil from GT Auto seems to help. Significantly enough for my Test Track results to change noticeably from the stock oil. Not sure about GT4, but I know GT5 didn't do that. No AIs upgraded their cars, there were no challenging one-make races...everything felt like a pushover. The only challenging things were the side races, like going around the Top Gear track in identical cars...one from WWII. Trying to ride the edge of the speed limiter without hitting it was...interesting.
+Tanara Kuranov (Gamer Mouse) Yeah, I think it was the... Amateur league where the C5-R and Viper GTS-R would be a good 6 -7 seconds in front! It was difficult to compete with the race cars, but my Mazda RX-7 had no problem keeping up :D
Screw modern gaming with all the updates, DLC and microtransactions, I’m getting another ps2 for christmas to relive the glory days of games like this.
I'm actually not quite sure why Opel shows up on my copy. From what I can tell, the car is supposed to show up as the Vauxhall VX220, unless your language is German, in which case it shows up as the Opel Speedster. Now, my language is not set to German, at least as far as I know (English should show up as Vauxhall). But, the Opel Speedster and the Vauxhall VX220 are the same car, simply re-branded under different names. So, if you don't see Opel, you should see Vauxhall.
Late response but here is the solution: Vauxhall cars will only show up IF you have the PAL (european) version of the game AND IF you set it to English.
Consider looking into emulation. The PCSX2 platform has improved much recently, as has Dolphin. Speedhacks now offer an average of a 50% speedup, without imposing any noticable faults. If your PC is capable of running these emulators without speedhacks, then I would suggest it over an actual PS2. The amount of control you have within the confines of an emulator over the actual hardware can often prove quite useful. Endurance racing in GT4 with Bob the B-spec driver becomes much less of a pain.
7:11 This game is the principal reason beacause this is my favoutite road car of all time with the Lancer Evo 6 and the 2001 Impreza WRX (even better if its in Calsonic blue)
i stayed up all night playing this game until 5am. the 2nd car i bought in the game was a gtr34 and it handled way better than anything. now in real life i drive a gtt 34 but may buy a gtr34 in a few weeks. ive come a long way since playing it in a game haha.
Heh, the Opel Speedster/Vauxhall VX220 would be a good beginner MR car, if it wasn't approaching 40,000 as an asking price. Yes, they're the same car with different names, just like the Toyota Sprinter Trueno/Corolla Levin/AE86/"That car from Initial D" are the same car. The Opel Speedster sure does look nice, at least.
Back when I didn't have a memory card, my PS2 was on for several days to not lose my progress. Finally got a memory card, and those were not cheap, at least not for me in junior high.
GamesSgt Menace Acura is Honda's luxury division. They're _technically_ separate brandings, but we're talking about the world of car companies, where things get merged, split, and re-branded all the time. Hell, Jaguar was owned by Ford at the time of this game's release, and I think they're owned by someone else now. Good luck figuring that stuff out.
GamesSgt Menace It's...headquartered in Japan, but Acura's cars were initially debuted in the US and Canada. Once again, welcome to the confusing world of car companies.
Seeing these menus are car dealerships combined with the soundtrack make me want to cry. I wish I could have been older to experience this game when it was new 😔
This is the NTSC version. I think my PS2 would throw a fit if I stuck a PAL version in (and Lenny Kravitz playing in the intro's a good indicator, too). As for cars, I believe it's 181 in GT3, and 719 in GT4. I'm guessing mainly due to the addition of things like the used car dealership. These counts are for the North American version, if you have a European or Japanese version, it may vary, if slightly.
Thanks for the swift reply! Also, did you ever play it on PC using emulators? I'm seriously thinking of buying a desktop PC so I can play GT3 and GT4 again, hopefully with a steering wheel as well!
Noukz37 I haven't any experience playing this in an emulator, this is all pulled right from the console. As far as I know, PS2 emulation is...relatively good, but not complete with all games. Best of luck.
Any newer games that had this mode or similar in? Latest Gran Turismo (I know its sport version) is such a let down, it really seems like the developers just dont want to put the effort in. Driveclub and Project Cars, you just get a selection of cars, cant upgrade, cant do anything, serious lack of customisation. The last game I know of that had you purchase cars, run races to earn cash to buy better cars was Test Drive Unlimited, and #2 was a dogshit.
+Cherry Brandt (Rotarry357) Honestly, I bet GameFAQs has your answer. I haven't played this in forever, and it always took me a little while to get to races where I could rake in money. Though, I know some championships can repeatedly give you valuable cars, so...there's that!
Natalie Ulis I think there was one Lamborghini in 3...in the Japanese version. Otherwise, you'd have to wait until 5. But who wants to drive the cars of a tractor maker, right? (That's obviously sarcasm...referencing what Ferrari originally said to the guy.)
+Tanara Kuranov (Gamer Mouse) yes there is. but not need for japan version the truth is its an ntsc?pal vrsion thing with i think some modification of the game files or its a save from the japan version if you re right and there a lambo diablo race car only not road car
Japan missed Lexus and acura, America missed Buick Cadillac corvette Lincoln and Pontiac, Germany missed Porsche, France missed Bugatti venturi and alpine, Italy missed Ferrari Lamborghini abarth maserati and covini, and england missed lagonda Bentley Daimler Morgan rolls Royce MG mini and McLaren. Swedish Volvo, and south Korea Hyundai and KIA.
Due to Electronic Arts (EA) had bought the rights to these manufacturers, especially European supercar brands, Polyphony Digital couldn't use them in Gran Turismo.
Well, they were also focusing on the graphics leap between the PS1 and PS2. There were more cars in GT2, yes. However, they were also remaking all the cars from scratch for GT3. Along with all the new circuits. Still, I think GT3 and GT4 may be contenders for my favorite GT games. They both have a variety of good challenges. This game (and the whole series) simulates racing. Most famous race car driver started out in small races , then made it into the big leagues a few months or years later.

masterpiece in sound and design
I dropped to my knees and cried the first time I played this game.
Jay Mike they were decent for ps2, and way better than GT5 and 6

Good graphics for a 2001 game
Morgiman Gaming it could've been better. have you seen gt4? it has better graphics, yet it's on the same console.
Rydog5392 Yet you missed a point.

schlafanzyk although Gran Turismo 3 didn't fully live up to the 'realistic' approach the series has
This game's dealership music... greatest tune in this early childhood game of mine imo... oh where did my earliest childhood go? 😢
What an awesome video. I loved both songs; especially when visiting the 'car dealer!'

My favorite one was Special stage route 11 when it said "Route 11 the start of a long night"
Award for "Most Accurate Event Description" right there.
Z***** Sarcasm?
Victor Lopez Not really. If you're playing at night, especially, that event description is 100% truth.

First, get all licenses. Try to get all golds on Rally license to get a Impreza Rally Prototype, it will be a great start.
To get money early on I just beat the type R meeting in the beginner league and sell the Acura over and over again. You get roughly 35,000 every time
