The boys say they were doing there laundry one day and Pablo asked them what they wanted to tell their parents. That’s how Mapa started to become the treasure that it is today. Lataratara is a lullaby his grandma would hum to Pablo when he was a kid. It is actually La Tierra (The World), the child being the world to the (grand)parents. MaPa is Mama and Papa; also stands for MAta(eyes) and PAa(feet), as what Mama and Papa are to their children, respectively. It also stands for map (mapa being the Tagalog for map), as our parents give us life direction; they serve as our map so we wouldn’t go astray. ❤
I think this is especially true to OFW (Overseas Filipino Workers) parents, which is also the reason why it is titled Mapa (Map). I think for us Filipinos, it's pretty common to have a parent or relative work overseas to help provide for our families back at home. It's about all the sacrifices they do across the world, in a different part of the "map".

Thank you Sir for this reaction. MaPa is by far the most endearing & iconic song of SB19 for me. When I first heard it, I fell in love immediately with it. That time, pandemic season, my Papa was still alive when this song got big. I used to avoid hearing this song cuz I'm so sentimental. That time, I was the one who was taking care of my elderly and ailing Papa. Due to pandemic, he can't go outside to do his daily routines pre-pandemic and I think that aggravated his illness - Parkinsons. After he died in 2020, I couldn't stand hearing MaPa for 2 years cuz I ended up only crying so hard. With God's help and my family's support, slowly I overcame my longingness for my Papa, but still I miss him all the time. Im so thankful to SB19 for the wonderful songs they created and will be creating. I'm in my late 40s now and I just hope that my children would also take care of me and their dad when we reach the age of senility.
Pablo, SB19's leader, wrote MAPA with inputs from the other members about what they wanted to tell their parents. Thank you, been enjoying your RVs on SB19! If you have time you may like to watch their WISH USA bus version wherein you can see the parts the members sing, it also has subtitles. MAPA is being used during graduations here in the Ph, sung by the graduates for their parents.😊

Pablo wrote that pre or during pandemic I think. Because they didn't get to see their parents during that time since they are not in a one place due to some busy schedule of the boys. Before debut, they went into a training and they didn't get to give money to their parents because they didn't get paid thru training. It's like just pure passion and dedication when they really wanted to train. Them, being Filipino, they have in their heart to give back to their parents. And when they got viral and when they finally make money out of their passion, they wanted to fulfill their dream, not just to perform, but also to give back to their parents.

Sad Facts: While they were recording this song, Ken's (the one with a deep voice) sister messaged him that their grandmother, who took care of him since he was young had just died. He busted in to tears after singing his part. Josh who has never seen his father since he was a baby sang the part about a father.

I remember Pablo said, he wrote this when due to their heavy workload, they were housed together and weren't able to come home to their families for a long time, so when they were doing the laundry he asked the members what their messages were for their families. And that's when they were able to come up with this song. MAPA will forever be our anthem to our parents.

Thanks Phillip for supporting our MahaLima...Pablo is the group's composer. Their recent songs tho' have some of the other members contributing to some of the lyrics. Btw, I love all of them, although Stell has the soft spot in my heart for so many reasons. Pablo of course is the genius when it comes to lyricism, he's the main rapper and Lead singer, good dancer too. Josh is the lead rapper, a lyricist and a great dancer too, being Stell's co-member in their former Se-eon group and has a lot of improvement when it comes to vocals. Justin, the visuals and creative Director of some of their amazing MVs, a good dancer and singer too. And Ken, the main dancer, a good rapper too with an amazing low-tone and husky midvocals. All of them can rap, so who wouldn't love all of them? Without the presence of one member wouldn't make SB19 great. They're perfect as a group though each one can stand on his own to perform as a solo artist. #SB19 #MahaLima❤❤❤❤❤

I discovered SB19 through this song while taking care of my 96 year old dad. It touched my heart and I listened to it daily. It kept me grounded in knowing I was doing the right thing by honoring and caring for my dad, just as he had done for me, until he passed. There are many different versions of this song alone and every one hits just a little different. This is the Magic of SB19. You can watch the same song over and over and get different a different emotional response every time. Keep exploring all their music but the ballads are all special.

This song really resonates true to them. They now have the means of providing for their family. Stell said that it's only now that he can repay them for all the sacrifices they done back when he was still struggling. Pablo's wishes and dreams are not for his own but for his family. Same goes for Ken, Josh and Justin. They care for their families deeply. Ken always make it a point to go home to Mindanao even if it's just for a couple of days.
You can't help but love them.

In their concert, they were very vocal in wanting to give their parents a good life. Ken wanted his parents (who were absent his whole life because they were working overseas) to finally come home. Josh who was raised by a single mom wanted her to stop working because in his eyes, she was always working hard. Pablo, too because his father was also an OFW. Of course, Stell and Justin dream of giving their families a better life.
I know some people won't understand this desire to take care of our parents when they're older but SB19 boys are true to their Filipino roots of giving back to our parents.

Mapa will forever hold a special place in my heart. Pablo wrote the song, Justin is behind the concept of the lyric video. Love the map, our guide, the sprout symbol of us growing and the boat our journey and at the last verses the boat turned into a plane symbolising us spreading our wings as we find our way in the world and it goes back to a boat again only this time it’s on its way back to where we came from. The symbolism of the sun and the moon and the compass. Soooo many beautiful visuals in its simplist form. This song has been sung in graduations in the Philippines. Some fun facts: Josh and Ken, singing the verse about fathers is significant because they are the members who actually didn’t know their fathers. Josh never met his dad and Ken, at this time the song was written, had only met his father and mother 3x in his life because they are working overseas.
