I just ordered 3 packs of each. You have never led me astray, I love everything you’ve ever suggested, and I have so so many different gorgeous vegetables starting this year that I’m going to have to set up a tent in my front yard and share my extras with my community. This my turn into an obsession for me and an outreach “ Bring them food and they will eat for a day, but teach them to grow the food and they will eat for a lifetime!” Kind of thing…
Amazingly, I'm growing all three plants you mentioned for the first time this year. I also planted Calendula this year in the Fall. When I transplanted them to the garden a raccoon dug them up everyday for a week until I found a way to keep him out. I hadn't had any hope for it living having been transplanted seven times. It is so resilient. It is producing flowers and growing. I think it did stunt it's growth a bit but it lived.
I love growing micro tomatoes. If I am not mistaken, the Tiny Tim's are determinate, so we'll need to succession plant those. I am going to be growing these microtomatoes in my brand new GreenStalk leaf vertical planter. So excited. I grow ground cherries and calendulas too. Love all those recommendations! Thanks, Bridget!
If you did not get one before they sold out, don't worry, we have more in the warehouse drying as we speak. Hit the "notify me" button on the product page and we will email you when I finish packing them up!
I’m so glad you talked about calendulas. I’m growing them for the first time this year. I have very dry skin and love the idea of making a salve with the flowers. Would you share your recipe?
I stumbled on physalis about 3 years ago at an edible plant talk. Mine is a pineapple tomatillo and could not be more delicious or easy! You can even root cuttings to give away, and it did seed into 2 other places (gave 1 away.) Thanks for the tip that I can cut it back - have not wanted to do that, but it spreads over the walkways! I may try the Tiny Tims, but I really prefer indeterminate, so it continues to make fruit all summer! SunGold are my favorite tangy tomato flavor!!
I grew pineapple ground cherries last year, and now I'm looking for places I can plant MORE! I think I planted my calendula too late, and it didn't thrive in the heat. Going to try a tiny tomato in my greenstalk. Thanks for your videos; I love it that you are local, and I always check out your seeds at Walter Andersen's, or online. Which reminds me I want to go see if you have Lucid Gem tomato seeds in stock!
Yes, calendula likes a cool period to get established before being hit without the intense summer heat. If the lucid gems are not in stock, make sure to hit the "notify me" button on the product page. When it is back in stock we will send you over an email!
I would LOVE to grow these except the only space I have is a balcony which gets only morning sun (east-facing). I may be able to grow the Tiny Tim's since they are small and therefore possibly can thrive on less sun than most tomato types. Is it possible to add a "sun requirement" filter on your webpage so I can see what other vegetables and flowers I could possibly grow? Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge and letting us see behind the scenes!
So bummed! The Ground Cherries are already sold out! I have the Cossak Pineapple ones in my landscape now, but they are so tiny compared to those beauties. Thanks for the recommendations!!
We have more in the warehouse drying as we speak. Make sure you hit the "notify me" button on the page and as soon as we put it back in stock, you will be notified. I am hoping to get them packaged this coming weekend!
Peruvian groundcherry 😋 I love them.. but the season is kind of a short here so it’s hard to have them enough for processing them to jams.. but we have red similar berries.. not as sweet as Peruvian but when I add pear’s to the jam I get nice texture and sweetness but red color.. I also play with flavor and adding cinnamon, vanilla, ginger sometimes even peppers to get a bit of spicy punch.. It’s fun to be a Chef and veg grower.. so many options here 🤯😂
I grow in riverside ca and I have failed to grow ground cherries every year! I either can't get them to germinate or they die when I transplant when young! Maybe this year will be my year lol
I grow tiny Tim’s and tommy toes every summer in a wine barrel separate from my indeterminate plants. I didn’t care for the flavor of ground cherries, but would appreciate some help on tomatillos which are sensitive for me. I need more roasted tomatillo salsa in my life. Helichrysum Italicum (immortelle) is great added into that balm for healing hands.
Ohhhh.. Not likely to have great success that way. Much easier to start them indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost, get them big and healthy and plant them out. It also helps with your short season.
Florida zone 10a Those tiny tomatoes might be good or the small holes in my cinderblock raised bed. I bought some ground cherries from Baker's Creek and couldn't get them to germinate. They are suppose to be an easy crop for my area. Maybe I'll give yours a try. Calendulas, I've gotten to grow but not very well, they usually dont' get very big half of them die and just don't do well here I guess, or maybe I'm doing somethign wrong. My winter season I grew the Black magic Kale and Etheopian Kale from San Diego seeds with great success. I definately plan to plant mor of those next year. I think I may even double up on the black magic kale instead of growing the dinosaur kale. the two appear to be very similar.
Thanks for the great information and letting me know where you are growing. That helps tremendously so that I can have an idea of what may be going on. The black cherries are easy to grow. We will have some this coming fall. I promise you will have success with them. When are you planting the calendula? You will likely need to start them in the fall, let them overwinter before your hot summers hit. They like well draining soils, something I imagine can be hard for you. Are you planting them in ground? I look forward to hearing from you.
@@SanDiegoSeedCompany I tried the calendulas both direct sowing and in starters last year. I start them around this time last year. This year I started them late in starters. The ones I had in starters seemed to just stop growing once the weather got cooler. I'll look forward to giving those black cherries a try. Is it better to direct sow them or put them in starter pots first? Or does it matter? i usually prefer using small starter pots when I can so I can more easily arrange where everything is going.

Oh shucks. Thank you so much!!!!
Cape Gooseberry jam.....the best.
I never heard of or saw the Peruvian ground Cherry before but my first impression was, "yellow tomatillos." Cool!
Tiny Tim tomatoes are really fun to grow, and mine really delivered ! Yummy little gems, and perfect for pots! ❤️

Make sure to make a hand cream out of it. You wont regret it. ruclips.net/video/zqt8z7t3-88/видео.html
Love your positive vibe.
I am so excited about the poppy seeds
They are so fun to plant and grow. They will likely reseed in your garden which means you will have happy volunteers.

High five on the succession planting point! You are spot on!
Crackin' me up! "Of course he has the room"
Odd question...where did you buy your sunflower pants? My daughter would love them.
A friend got them for me 😍
I'm looking forward to trying the ground cherries. You make them sound so tasty. 😊

Yes we typically like in determinate too but the tiny Tim is so fun and compact. It's a neat plant to see!
Great recommendations and information 😊

Also, I love your hat, where can I get one?
When you plant ground cherries, is it true you can bury some of the stem like a tomato?
Yes!

Thank you for this. I have to admit, I don't like the smell of immortelle.
Do you fertilize carrots and if so what do you use?
Liquid fertilizer like sandiegoseedcompany.com/product/tools-and-merchandise/neptunes-harvest-organic-fish-fertilizer-2-4-1/
The spoon tomato is the smallest and then the orange hat.
Do you think I could direct sow the ground cherries in Connecticut (zone 6) once the ground thaws? I’m not a good indoor seed grower. Haha
