That’s tough! The textbook we use says it’s for k-8 I believe….but I probably wouldn’t use it before 3rd for my kids. It covers a lot of content that I think would go over the younger ones heads….but that is the case with most history curriculums, I think. I hope that helps!
Does Christian Light Reading have any of the classics included? I have a difficult time finding a reading curriculum that is christian but has the classics too.
We are using Five in a Row in the fall & I am so excited. They are adding new volumes using only chapter books for older kiddos. I am tempted to see what it's all about.
It’s really great! You just need to pick a level (age) and it’s basically an all in one book. They should be able to help you navigate the website if you need help.
We are currently doing the Biology 1. I love the *concept*, but we won’t be doing it again next year. It feels pretty empty and there aren’t many experiments. I do like how they try to make science a group subject.
@@natasiabellah9124 it is very $$ indeed. Also wanted to add, I always have to supplement the book content with usually RUclips videos because some days you read 2-3 pages of a book and my kids are like, “that’s it?” And the writing assignments are very repetitive. Again…love the concept of learning through books and maybe it’d be ok for young students but I feel like this year our science time was wasted :-(
I love Five in a Row. I used it three years ago with my daughter and I will definitely use it again in a few years when my son is in Kindergarten. I only used it for Kindergarten, but SO good.
Thanks for sharing your favs. We just tried CLE for math and love it. I'm been debating on the language arts program. Definitely want to look into it more.
Would you mind sharing which science programs you have used up to this point? I know in Heart of Dakota the science is included. Did you always use what Heart of Dakota suggested when you were using the guides?
For Heart of Dakota, I did use their science suggestions (the one small square books) and Apologia, we are using Apologia (land animals) again this year for my little girls and Apologia (general science) for my oldest.
I purchased CLE reading for my 2nd grader thanks to you and Pennies and Salt. Your videos have been super helpful. My question for you is would you recommend CLE reading program for fourth and fifth grade even if you don’t feel your kiddos need help with reading per se? Do you think it still would be a miss not to give them something structured like that? And perhaps I ask this question without really understanding all that’s involved with their reading program. I love what I see in the second grade, so it makes me interested for my older two. Thank you for any insight.
Awww that’s awesome! I would definitely say to keep doing the reading program in the upper grades! I love their reading program and my girls are all very strong readers. Once you get into the higher levels of elementary and beyond it’s not about learning to read, it’s about comprehension and learning all the components of reading. I did a more in depth review about their reading program that might help. I’ll link it below.
Thank you so much!!!!!! You have been so helpful. I really appreciate it. I really think if we lived in the same city, we would be friends. I love your channel and personality.
We have a Canadian curriculum called 'Come Sit By Me' that sounds just like 5 in a row! Except with Canadian stories and authors. It was so great for kindergarten 🥰
Have you looked into Evan Moor Skill Sharpner Science?... Awesome!!! Colorful, fun, straight forward, great pictures, and an experiment at the end of each lesson.
My daughter is doing it this year. It was a huge jump from what she’s done before….so at times it’s felt like a lot. But she says she really enjoys it. It is nice to have another subject that she can do independently. It seems biblically sound and thorough.
We absolutely love Heart of Dakota as well! I am doing 2 different guides right now with 3 kids, I hope I can continue to make it work because I love the look of the High school guides too.
Wish I would have understood more about “Five in a Row” when my boys where younger sounds so good!! We love HOD and have used since we discovered- but not always with every kid. Science is a hard one- I wonder about unit studies? Thanks for sharing!!
Yes! I agree! I kind of wish I had used it with my son this year….FIAR is so precious! That’s awesome you like HOD too! I do like unit studies….we used The Good and The Beautiful unit studies last year and did really like them. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! ❤️
Wise words about "just read the Bible together". Some of our best talks have come from choosing a book of the Bible and reading through it together. P.S. you always look so lovely in your videos! Warmth and light! #momgoals ❤
You have a lot of interesting ones to check into but I love five in a row as well, don’t feel like I’ve used to to them best advantage, only second year homeschooling, so trying to figure everything out, and I plan too much I think for my young kids, two which are special needs, so still learning but as of now five in a row is definitely a favorite! Thanks so much!
How is CLE Reading plus TGATB LA working for your 3rd grader? I'm contemplating both for my upcoming 3rd grade boy but fear it might be too much. Love your updates and homeschool style!
Love alot of these! I have just recently looked into CLE. I got the LTR level. Since you have used it maybe you can answer my question. In looking through I'm concerned the way they have the child find how the word phonetically sounds will confuse my children when just starting out learning to read. exp. having them match "Said" to "sed". or "above" to "ubuv" (idk if these exact ones are in the curriculum its just to give exp.) Did this type of thing help or confuse your children with CLE LA and reading?
If you like Christian Light Education materials, you might want to check out Rod and Staff science. 🙂 We love it. The writing style is engaging and interesting. My boys are often saying, "hey, Mom, did you know.... ?" We don't do all the assigned work, I've adapted it in recent years to have them just kind of notebook about what they read.
Thanks for sharing your faves! Here's what I plan on using (as of right now) for my incoming 3rd-grader next year: Guest Hollow Language Arts + Beowulf's Grammar (for grades 2-6), TGTB Handwriting, Science Shepherd (5-minute lessons online, short worksheet to go with lesson), TGTB Math, Notgrass Our 50 States for history, Spelling You See, Evan Moor Art, Squilt Music, & World Kids Explore for current events (magazine + digital), & More Than Words (Rebecca Spooner's Bible devotional) --- We tried TGTB LA this year and it was just ok for us. I have a busy-body 8-year-old and he needs something more tactile. There's just tooooooo much to research and try!! 🙃
That’s awesome you have everything lined up for next year! I have heard of squirt but never used it. Also, I didn’t know Evan Moor has art! That’s cool! Thanks for sharing!
Hello! I’m new here and I love your videos- very helpful! I have a question- with CLE language and reading, is spelling not included? I was leaning toward CLE for my 4th, 2nd and kinder next year and thought spelling was included in their language. Are you using the Evan Moore spelling along with CLE?
New subscriber! Found you through this collab! I’ve been following almost everyone in the playlist for awhile. So it’s nice to meet you. 😊I’m Jerilyn (sounds like Marilyn) and I have a second grade daughter and a one year old son. ❤️
I’ve always felt like it was advanced, especially compared to some other curriculums. You should have your kids take the placement test for sure to see where they place.
Yes….their website can be confusing. I would recommend requesting a catalog from them. For me, it lays out exactly what you need and is easier to wrap your head around. That’s so great! CLE is so great!
As an unashamed curricula junkie!! LUV!!! ALL OF THE ABOVE & ALL the other curricula out there too!! LOL! & This is my #1 challenge as a homeschool mum!!! Luv all your vids! TY for sharing!
Thanks for all this info. I’m Catholic but am considering CLE. Is there any real push concerning set philosophies? Also, considering your style of homeschooling, which I feel is similar to mine and my current situation, I would suggest Real Science for Kids. I can’t really recommend it yet but have been eyeing it and thought I would mention it in case it might interest you. Lol.
Awesome job! I loved hearing about a different curriculum other than the good and the beautiful (side note I really enjoy using the good and the beautiful, but it’s nice to hear about something different and exciting other than TG&TB.)
My favorites:

I have homeschooled for over 22 years; 4 grown and now 3 adopted little ones.
So helpful. Thank you! We use TGTB and are looking into CLE!
I’m so glad this was helpful! ❤️
At which grade would you recommend starting Biblioplan?

@@ourthriftyhomeschool That is helpful! Thank you so much!
I am hearing so many good things about Christian Light.
I love it!
LOVE Five in a Row too! I’m teaching a class at co-op next year using that idea. The pictures of your girls is precious!
That’s awesome! I taught FIAR in coop too a couple years ago, and it was great! ❤️
Does Christian Light Reading have any of the classics included? I have a difficult time finding a reading curriculum that is christian but has the classics too.
All of their stories in reading are original to CLE except for Bible excerpts. (As far as I’ve seen)
I’m so excited to use Biblioplan next year!
I’m so excited you’re using it! ❤️🥳
Biblioplan sounds like what I’m looking for in the next few years for history. Will definitely check it out
That’s great! It’s been such a great fit for us!
We are using Five in a Row in the fall & I am so excited. They are adding new volumes using only chapter books for older kiddos. I am tempted to see what it's all about.
Oh man! That sounds so nice! ❤️
We are using Five In a Row with our littles this year and it is just the sweetest❤️
I keep forgetting you use FIAR! I love it! I wish I had been able to make it work for Jonah this year! ❤️
Never heard of FIAR and I went to check out their website and was so confused
It’s really great! You just need to pick a level (age) and it’s basically an all in one book. They should be able to help you navigate the website if you need help.
I love the CLE reading aloud, that’s a great reminder!
Yes!
For TGTB, level 4 and up is independent 🙌
Yes! ❤️
Have you tried Noeo science? I've had my eye on it for awhile.
We are currently doing the Biology 1. I love the *concept*, but we won’t be doing it again next year. It feels pretty empty and there aren’t many experiments. I do like how they try to make science a group subject.
@@Keepasking123 thanks, I love the concept too but couldn't justify the price just for one subject.

Do you use CLE reading in conjunction with TGTB language arts?
Yes, I use both and they work well together.

I love their Kindergarten! I’m using K2 with my son and it’s so great!
I think many of us tend to move away from time consuming curriculums as more children are added, and as more teaching needs to happen.
