I need you to understand you unlocked a hidden interest for art history like I’m about to sign up for classes in college so I can learn more about all of it. History on detail, mood, artist, everything. Thank you because for the longest time there wasn’t much excitement or passion but I think I just found it. Thank you
This is quite possibly just the best comment I've ever gotten - I'm so so happy for you and so honored and delighted I could share this excitement with you!!! My best best wishes
Welcome to the Art History world!!! We’re happy to have you! 😁 Ever since I found my spark for art history and switched my major to pursue it, I’ve never been happier! Good luck on your journey ❤️
People who think paintings get done in less than a month don't really understand the full process... Especially if you're working with oils. This piece turned out amazing, I love that you show real time painting.
So amazing to see that we both take so many similar steps in making a bigger painting, i always plan everything digitally, later sketch the smaller parts on paper and i love to take my own references. The final piece and it’s theme always ends up being more abstract with big hints of realism.
Only a month? I love your art and all your creativity, I almost feel kind of privileged to actually being able to see your art on instagram and RUclips. It is by far the most amazing art I have seen! and I think you almost "shooting" these masterpieces out! I think a month is very very impressive! You are such a huge inspiration :-)
This is the first video from you RUclips has recommended me. I’m already captivated in the first several minutes just from your music choices and illustrated intro. It’s totally my aesthetic. Subscribed right away.
I cannot think of a better way to spend my morning. I haven’t painted in so long but this really made me yearn to do a painting again, though I doubt I have the time! I could spend hours just watching your process! What really piqued my interest was how you color correct your skin tones and other sections of the painting, and the drying process- I’m terrible at waiting for it to dry and actually working on layers, but I’d definitely would like to do that more. Also the oven!! Wow I can say with absolute certainty you are one of my favorite contemporary artists, especially bc of this sense of wonder, curiosity, fantasy and imagination you emulate through your art! It’s why I love the medieval ages and the northlandish art the most- and it makes me happy to see it referenced in yours! Waiting for the day I can support your patreon! I don’t ever do those but without a doubt I KNOW I must for yours!
Thank you for such an enjoyable visit watching you paint this beautiful piece. And the music was a perfect match to the video. I've just subscribed and I look forward to seeing more of your painting process.
GENIUS * ! can not wrap my head around the fact that you created such a masterpiece in only a month! with all that research as well as filming all of it! thank you for sharing
@@paulwoodford1984 My dude, have you ever painted an oil painting of this size? Let alone in pre-raphaelite style? The drying time alone can take weeks.. there's just no need to undermine someone else's impressive efforts
This started out as an auto-play video. Luckily for me, my hands were too messy to change it. I love your process. Each facet of your piece is well thought out and researched, your attention to detail is impeccable, the end product thought provoking, utterly exquisite! I very much enjoyed the journey. Thank you for sharing.
My favorite artist, my favorite book, even specifically that annotated version I’ve read so many times. Seeing all those things come together into something so incredible made my night.
Bravo! I loved every minute. very inspiring work. A longer format gave so much more insight than others short demos. Im sure I will watch this many more times
Your painting process looks so quiet and meditative. I paint outdoors a lot and it's always a bit of a frenzied process. Love this video and your painting!
I loved all of this, from the pacing, planning, rambles, and especially the beautiful music as a backdrop to your masterpiece. I'm from oregon originally but live in Amsterdam and before that Germany/UK, so it was cool to read more about you and see you've had a inverted journey as me, in a way! the PNW hopefully provides you with a lot of inspiration and tranquility for you to create your work. + I also purchased today on the last day your print of this, which I am so excited!! Hopefully someday there will be more prints of Alice (I would love to have the set). Thank you for all your work and talent!
just wanna share that i've always enjoyed your videos, Ruth and this is such a blessing! THis is very calming and I love that you like to add classical arts together in your own work(i have gained an appreciation of the old masters and wanted to know more) Love love love this and I dont want you to stress over making art videos but I do hope we could see more of you again!
Reminds me Rembrandt techniques and process and other master artists I have been studying. The way you paint is not some happening but a lot of thought, preparation, planning has happened, even years of studying to the immediate process planning when doing this painting. I like watching videos like this than the speed up ones because it reveals some reality of what it takes, the slow movements of brushes and gives you a real idea of the process. Thanks a lot for sharing your work in this videos. Inspiring.
Oof, you´re my new favorite painter here on YT. I seriously admire the research and preparation that goes into your work, plus you dedication to originality. And your style is gorgeous, it really stirs something in my heart. Thank you for sharing your paintings with us. I sincerely hope you´ll publish a coffee table book in the future because I would SO buy that
this was so relaxing to watch and the painting is amazing! mad props to your talent and thank you for showing us the process from concept to completion!
I used to do a lot of painting and drawing but am currently in a place of my life where I have not the time, space or resources to do art like this. It is super cathartic to watch you work and I feel almost as much satisfaction at the end of your paintings what I would feel if I had created it myself. I know it takes a long time to make these videos but it will agony to wait for the next one.
My jaw is on the floor honestly. First video of yours I’ve watched. The paint is so smooth and buttery. The shading is immaculate. The gradient is so natural looking. The composition just makes so much sense. Im obsessed with this, in the absolute best ways possible. It makes me want to start painting again. 😩
Thank you so much for sharing your process with us. I have adored your work for years. You are an inspiration! I was lucky enough to actually buy one on April 1st! 💜
oh my, your channel is something so lovely, it gives me wonderful feelings, what a blessing that you are gifted with both painting and film, and can share it with us.
Oh my god, what a beautiful experience this whole thing was!!! The title cards!!! The music!!! Peaceful painting shots!!! Dearest Ruth, it amazes me how everything you made is full of whimsical inspiring magic. I'm shocked that you made this incredibly detailed work in just a month (while also filming it). The research and care during the planning phase was so interesting to see, a lil glimpse inside your mind. I'm sitting here still stunned so yeah, thank you so much for this amazing video and beautiful piece!! I hope that you have a wonderful day, bc this definitely made mine so much better
I was struggling with my concentration for quite some times (like a few mounth) because of social media, anxiety, stress and a bit of sadness. I cannot stay focus for 5 or 10 minutes on something, that was really stressful for me. And then, I tried watching this video and, you know what ? I was focus all the time on it. Like... WOW. I'm so happy right now that I wanna cry. Also I wanna cry by this piece of art, we can see all your attention on your artistic references that you bring into your own world (bosh x speer ? sorry but it's gold). The technicity of your brush strokes, the colors you choose, the time you take to bring your imagination alive and also the way that you see yourself as an entire model for your artwork inspire me so much that I wan't to paint again after a long year of bearevement for the loss of my grandma. So I want to say a huge thank you to you, you bring back a little light inside of my mind that I haven't seen since a long time. BTW sorry for my english, I'm a frenchie trying to explain my gratitude for your work. Thanks
I adore this painting, and, I must inform you of the "MA'AM??" that burst from my lips when you painted Humpty's eyesockets and proceeded to paint him entirely red- he's horrifying, thank you
The clips where you were talking with your friend and painting really made me feel nostalgic. I've drifted away from that and it's definitely inspiring me to create more often. ❤ Amazing work, and video, thank you!
This is so wonderful and satisfying to watch! I admit I geeked a little when I realized your drawing layer looked like the illustration style in the books, almost like a wood carving with those pretty textures. And your blending is sooo smooth and beautiful, I'm in love with it. :D Do you use a medium for glazing, or is it just oil?
This is just perfect! Best video and work I've seen in a long time, I loved it so much! Congratulations on your great work, very well done and that deserves much more recognition!!

Around 11:50 you touch on anxiety around stumbling upon a concept that another artist uses. I have this same fear. Artists can be a bit domineering in their pursuit of originality. That kind of shallow take of "is anything truly original?" is still a good question. Even great works from the past are just mashed up themes that have persisted throughout history. With how absolutely flooded art is right now (never has this craft been so accessible to people) the accusation of art theft that is not blatant does come off as very ego driven. This isn't to ignore art theft, but true art theft comes from directly copying a piece beyond the limits of good taste, without credit. It's not uncanny that two people would think of a similar thing when trying visualize an abstract idea. It was wonderful to spend the hour with you, the painting is beautiful! Looking forward to buying a print of it on April 1st :)
