"I came up with it... stoned in a hotel room in Colorado..." The transparency of the creative process is almost as good as the playing. Warms the heart, it does.
This is my new absolute favorite channel on all of the tube of you. Your style, personality and general approach to music is just phenomenal. Many thanks from a Dane in Denmark
You notice that nobody ever says "instanding"? And, even if they did, it wouldn't be applicable, because this is Outstanding. See the chords and scales overlaid and the fretboard reveals itself. Thumbs Up!
Great lesson Eric. It kind of refers back to my comment on last week’s Knopfler video about playing to the chords. I just have trouble sometimes really nailing down those chord tones for creating leads. Thanks for this!!
It's all about the double-vision! Stuff like this is a great way to painlessly develop that skill - but bouncing back between chords and scales, we're teaching ourselves those connections!
I wonder what it's like to be so good at guitar that you don't quite know how the sound you're creating is coming out of your guitar. @4:10 sounds like the name of a great "down and out" song. Think warren Zevon's "Carmelita". Not that it sounds similar, but just the overall emotional sound. love that guitar. giving it some serious thought. Thanks Eric. Kevin O'Rourke
Oh yeah stay tuned - I'm gonna do a Ry Cooder arrangement of some Beatles stuff in a few weeks. Also, any of my Knopfler-inspired lessons contain some Cooder-esque techniques, so those are worth some investigation as well :-)
Tell me about it! I have 10 and that's more than enough. Now when I want a new one I force myself to sell an old one - don't wanna become a hoarder :-)
Have you done a review on the Fender Tone Master amp yet or if not is it all it's cracked up to be ? would you recommend one ? Peace and be Safe out there !
I did this demo the day I got it: ruclips.net/video/Whg4JECoirk/видео.html I like it a lot! My only beef with it is the neo speaker - a little to bright and clean. I swapped it for a Weber Alnico Hemp coned speaker and now it's smoky and squishy! I'm gonna shoot some more vids with the upgrade in a few weeks. I love all my amps, so it's tough to say which one is "best" - they all have different personalities, depends on what you're after!
Could you explain to me how that berklee jazz school chordal modulation thingy works? I'm out of money, but am still interested in how this works. It sounds a lot like SRV Riviera paradise, but that might be just because it's a modulation and the same maj7 chord shape. Can you point me in the right direction?
Ooooof that’s a big subject! In that scenario, I’m hopping over to the key of Gm for a minute - that’s where the Eb comes from. If you google “modal interchange” wiki might send you down a useful rabbit hole
Really enjoyed this lesson Eric thanks for being so consistent! 👍 Also: being stoned in Colorado hotel rooms is my favorite place to write riffs too lol 😊
hahahahaha I was there shooting videos for jamplay.com - weed is legal there so I was like "what the heck." I ate dinner at the bar of a PF Changs, and then saw Thor Ragnarok - fun night!

Too much pinky. I'm out, Off to play Malcolm Young riffs. It's not that I don't like it, its just that I can't do it. Arthritis gets us all in the end.

Blasphemy! I've been getting away from reverb pedals lately and just use whatever amp reverb is available, plus maybe a little room sound added in post :-)

Hahahaha
Really takes ya there, don't it?
"Oh man.... I have no idea what's goin' on right now...."
Great lesson. Nice to stumble backwards onto this early stuff of yours. Nice to have it be a bit more complex and wide ranging like this.
Great tone, I own the ToneMaster Twin and am getting ready to buy the Deluxe version too, Fender knocked it outta the park with that series!

Hahahahah "instanding" - I love puns
Love it Eric .This is what I've been thinking and you have taken it to another level. I've been using the 4 as my guide lately.
Smart! Those 4th string root shapes are hard to keep track of!
Eric: I so appreciate what you do! I count you among my most favorite youtubers like Sammy G, Paul Davids, and Adam Neely.
youarenotaghost oh yeah! Eric, Sammy G and Paul Davids are my best YTers as well 👍
oooh thanks! That's rarefied air indeed - those guys are top notch!
David Brewster and Stitch Method along with them! Totally agree. Eric is top notch 🤘
Oooooof...the playing is fantastic as usual Eric...but damn...that guitar! 😍
I love that thing! Really didn't want to give it back to Robert - but I know it's gonna be happy in it's new home :-)

Ha! Yeah - it would have a "Sunday Morning Coming Down" Kris Kristofferson feel to it!
Hi Eric, another great lesson. inspiration, vibes and melody. good to practice. thanx
Thanks Alexis!
Hearing your creative thought process is invaluable. Thank you!
Ha!
I try to be a real guy, a straight shooter, a "tell it like it is" fella :-)
Love that Tele. Great tone
And it's so light! I really might have to have Robert make me one to keep!
Very smooth. Will be working on this.
Yeah - this one is similar to some of my other chord+fill lessons, but there's something extra chill and vibey about it :-)
You’re such a fantastic teacher
Thanks man!
Sweet! Would love some more Ryan cooder esque vids! Love the guitar!

Eric, have you been listening to Khraungbin?
Oh yes I have - I can totally hear that plinky, reverby guitar sound on their stuff!
Loved the opening playing and tone. I have too many guitars, otherwise I'd be tempted.
Tell me about it! I have 10 and that's more than enough. Now when I want a new one I force myself to sell an old one - don't wanna become a hoarder :-)
Dude !! Your Tone is just Friggin Killer !!
Thanks Kent!
That retrovibe is doin' some heavy lifting on this one 👍
That Ebmaj7 makes me think Riviera Paradise including the following riff.
Lovely stuff Eric and lovely guitar 🎸
Thanks Frank!
Yeah, that shell pink custom thinline is 😍
Man, that's a great looking and sounding git.
It really is! I had to give it back after this shoot, but he's gonna let me demo the next one, which is gonna be seafoam green!
beautiful guitar!
Watched this stoned. Great Towelie reference. Great lesson.
"You're a towel!" 4:11 great video as always!

Strange but interresting ??!!
Indeed! The bouncing back ak between C and Bm, and then the jump to Ebma7 are certainly odd choices - very cinematic.
