I have ADHD but I don't have a problem sitting still or watching long videos. If it interest me I can sit for hours. For me it's my mind that can't sit still. But my body can sit anywhere and not move...strange right.
Thank you for putting so much thought into your videos!! Being 20 and knowing for the last two years I have ADHD has been quite the experience and it’s been really comforting to have someone addressing so many nuanced topics in such an honest, concise way.
PSA: For anyone who menstruates, there is something important to consider ❗ We often feel like our meds don't work properly. And that is CORRECT! But not because of tolerance! The huge drop in estrogens and increased progesterone in the week/days before the menstruation starts, can render our stimulant medication completely useless! The estrogen hormone makes dopamine production possible. When estrogen is gone, ADHD meds cannot help because mostly, the meds are just trying to send dopamine around more efficiently, or let the dopamine sit and have more time to work before re-uptake. But there is next to no dopamine in the pre menstrual week, so the meds actually cannot help as much, or at all. 😵💫 some women find that getting a slightly increased dose of an amphetamine based medicine in pre menstrual week helps. Others need to be on contraceptives that keep estrogen stable and constant.
does a higher dose make tolerance go up quicker? probably a dumb question but im not too informed about stimulant tolerance because im relativly new to adhd meds. i know almost everything about most drugs but i can never find good information about adhd stims for some reason
Yes! I'm noticing that my ADD meds are just useless lately...symptoms are worse than they have been in years! Coincidentally--I've been experiencing perimenopause for several months now...ugh! Talking to my doctor on Monday about increasing my dosage.
Lisdexamphetamine, which is converted to Dexamphetamine, is then carried to the brain via the Red Blood cells, which themselves play are role in the metabolism by processing it further inside them with the help of a certain enzyme. Finding those studies is bothersome but they all seem to indicate that blood plays a huge part with vyvanse, it would seem to make sense that if you lose blood you may also loose some of your medication along the way. (I have no clue beyond this suspicion though, just wanted to share.)
If it wasn't for your videos .. I wouldnt have realised what I had. I went to the doctor and was diagnoised at 28. I love your videos. You are helping people
Thanks Stuart - this made so much sense to me. My 30mg Elvanse started to loose efficacy after about 6 months. My 50mg are starting to tail off 4 months in, but they're still working. Great insight about taking time to raise the dose too - these meds have been transformative for me and I finally understand the phrase "it's a marathon, not a sprint". Love your channel! Great content!
@@Thedrysurrealbloke body clock- when your body should feel awake/ alert & when you should tired. So lots of light exposure as soon you wake up from ideally the sun & limit light exposure near sleep. Wake up at the same time every day is key. This is supported by countless studies. (Apologies for the grammar/spelling)
Went through same experience, my adhd psychologist said after 6-12 months (usually) vyvanse creates new neural pathways in the brain, meaning more receptors for your dopamine to reach. The original dose is still doing the same thing it’s just being spread thinner. Essentially you’ve just got more pathways to fill hence needing more of the stimulant. I’ve been on the same dose now 2 years & feels the same daily 🙌 awesome video
I've been diagnosed since 2nd grade, I've been taking Adderall for years with great success. I've never had any issues with it. I was at 45-50mg a day, sounds like a lot but I'm not a small guy. Decent mood all day, didn't get too hungry but could still eat. I don't take it anymore, and it took a while but I was able to teach myself how to cope without meds. I could definitely still use it but I don't need it
Just wanted to hello and thanks for the videos, it's been very helpful for me seeing other people with the same struggles I've had for so long, also great for helping me realise I have ADHD, I received my actual diagnosis yesterday. Glad to have found my tribe! It's taken me 45 years. I always thought it was just me, but it turns out is was just me.
Nice. I can relate so much to your symptoms, including the drinking problems and the rejection syndrome. Maybe cause I'm the same age as you. A nice video would be how to deal with withdrawals when you feel like having a break.
Wow thank you for adding in the sleep stuff and other outward things. I seemed to think the medicine would just help and I'd be okay but my habits need to change. Diagnosed at 30 and almost a year on I'm only really getting an idea about how to manage it. They just gave me meds and no tools. It's hard without tools
Oof. Diagnosed well into my 30’s, Vyvanse was a godsend. When I began to notice a bit of tolerance, I asked my doctor about the likelihood of a gradual loss of efficacy coming around the bend. As I listened to him explain that it does happen for many people, I cried my eyes out, terrified of the “lights going out” again. I dropped down to 40mg, and take it once every few days. Certainly not as effective as when I was on it daily, but I still feel it kick in and work.
Also, increasing dosage can allow the medication to last longer. I was taking 40mg of Vyvanse and only getting 3-4 hours of an effect out of it. Bumped it up to 50mg and I now get 6-7 hours.
On 30mg I felt nothing, I am on 50mg now but having major problems with longevity, it would only last 4 hours, but now it only lasts around an hour max and doesn't even feel as effective, tolerance should not build this fast, what is going wrong with my brain.
I got put on 30mg vyvanse and started about two weeks ago. The first week, I noticed it worked but I had to “get moving” and start a task. I got on a decent sleep schedule the next week and thought it would help increase the “strength” of it but it didn’t at all. I can chill on the couch or in bed all day. I’m not sure if it’s me and the meds not being enough or if the other med I’m on is cancelling it out. I’m confused as to what is going on. I have a psych appt next week so hopefully it sorts out.
The problem here is your on a extended slow release of 30 MG Vyanse which slowly releases in your body over the period of 6 hours. You need to stick with IR = Instant release 10 MG in the morning and 10 MG afternoon, soon as you take instant release the adderall becomes active for 4 hours, redose the IR at noon and you have another 4 hours of active adderall. The Vyanse extended release adderall does not work very well. I've been on instant release 10MG adderall for 7 years it works very well and I do not ever have to take more dosage. Never take high dosages of adderall even if your Doctor tells you to do so. The reason behind it is that ADHD medical problem is subjective diagnosis where the doctor cannot gauge how severe or less ADHD you have. When we compare other diseases which can be proven via performing certain tests to guage the severity based on that severity the dosage could be calculated and prescribed, ADHD cannot be gauged, I strongly recommend to stick with smaller dosages. Higher dose is going to jack your brain into producing much higher dopamine, serotonin, into your brains synapses, more dopamine being used by your brain at higher dosage, over time your brain has to reup the dopamine at stored state, with high dosage of adderall your releasing more dopamine in your brain than you actually make at a stored state. Sleep good, eat good helps the brain reup dopamine and serotonin at stored state. What actually happens when you use more dopamine and serotonin than you actually make? = your overloading your receptors also high adderall dosages increases your heart beat by a lot, higher BPM at all times your heart is working hard to provide blood needed in your brain.
@beamerboy6657 Lol...whatever. I have to take 60 mg a day. Low doses do absolutely nothing for my nervous system. I've been on meds since 7th grade ,and I'm 44 now.
@@CajunAdrienneMaybe he should present his/her medical degree and history of practice so they can prove why they have any idea what they're talking about lol
I have been doing the same thing with Elvanse. 1 30mg and a half, split and mixed with water. I haven't been taking any on the weekend making Mondays a bit more bearable as I can feel the difference. Just trying not too increase it anymore. Need to remember not to take my iron and vit C tablet till after dinner instead of the morning with the rest
Impossible to truly be accurate without a scale but powder comes out and can be mixed with yogurt water few things and be taken without capsule you can still be fairly accurate with pouring one half into other side of capsule
I suspected the thing about vit c! I thought I was going mad. I started on concerta some months ago, and as i upped the dosage I was noticing some headaches etc. Some days I also took a mulitvitamin tablets and ended up with awful migraine-like headaches. Finally I started associating that with the mutlivitamins, but obviously couldn't narrow down which vitamin was causing it. Lovely accent btw!
When both you and your Dr agree that it's best they can up your dose for you so you don't have to open up pills but do confess that when my Dr agrees that I need to up my dose done this so I can experience the increased dose to help me.
I think you can get used to functioning at a higher level and then feel like I need more! I think if you believe you are now tolerant to a dose then come off meds for 1-2 weeks and see if your performance drops if it does then chances are the meds are still working! 🙂
You should ask your doctor to increase the dosage of the Vyanse and maybe add additional medication like adderall but there’s such a low supply now ppl can’t find it anywhere
Did you do the school work like that before it? You might not feel different but if you think back to how you were before, what you struggled with? Is it easier, do you concentrate for longer etc. Can be helpful to ask others you trust how you are now versus before, they might notice things you don't.
@Box Addict I fucking hate the high anyway. I hope it goes away. But I can study for more than 10 mins at a time now and it’s mind blowing. I can’t believe normal people feel that way all the time
I take 60mg vivance and I can’t function properly without it so i take them but at the same time I pretty much sleep like 3 hours a day. If i forget to take them (which i often do) i’m literally sleeping in class. I wake up at 6am pass out at around 3am sometimes I don’t sleep at all. It’s to the point where if i sleep for 5 or 6 hours I consider it a good night of sleep.
I was diagnosed and medicated two weeks ago (18mg methylphenidate) I don’t feel any different, only more tearful in the afternoon and mire tired. I also think I’m getting a little paranoid.
I'm 62 years old. I have been treated for depression for over 25 years including electric shocks treatment. I kept getting worst. My beautiful daughter got diagnosed with ADhD. I could not believe that . I thought she was depressed as our symptoms are the same except I have been getting worst over the years to a point I have isolated myself in the middle of the bush where I live alone. I have missed many specialists appointments, other important appointments. 7 years ago they discovered my arteries in my next were 60% blocked in the left and 80% on the right. Was able to make it to the surgeon, but never made it to the pre surgery appointment at the hospital. I told my doctor maybe I have what my daughter has, ADhD. He decided to give me 20 mg of ridellin. (I had dropped my antidepressants months ago, he didn't like that).. this was about 6 months ago. It worked amazing for a couple of hours after taking it. I was able to finish things for the first time, I was able to go get my groceries and even pick up my meds. God I was able to keep my house cleaned. My daughter's doctor told her she could tane up to 60mg after a couple of weeks. About 2 months after I started on ridellin I asked my doctor if I could increase from 20mg because I felt it wasn't helping me anymore. He said no. How can I get my doctor to understand that I cannot function without a higher dose? I do get depressed but only because I can't function. PLEASE HELP
I’m on 30mg Vyvanse and I don’t feel anything except some days I fall asleep or feel tired when the medication kicks in. That’s after having a cup or two of coffee.
Hey! Splitting Vyvanse is my thing! LOL :) What’s odd is that sometimes I end up splitting an entire capsule (4-6 times throughout the dat) and sometimes I take only half the capsule (1/6 x 4 times per day). I pay attention to how I’m feeling through out the day and then I take what I feel that I need. Lately, taking 1/6 to 1/8 between 4 - 6 times about every 2 hours apart seems to be best. Last week it was 1/4 then 1/2 then 1/6. 🎶 Boom boom ain’t it great to be crazy? Boom boom a i it it great to be crazy.? 🎶
Thanks for this video, came at the perfect time, my father and I got diagnosed this summer and he recently upped his dosage of methylphenidate with positive results. I am on vyvanse and in my first semester of college, the medication helps me stay awake and helps me to focus enough in class but neither 20mg nor 40mg can help me to stop procrastinating in any way. I've heard conflicting information about how to find your best dose, and whether procrastination can be helped at all by medication. I'm wondering if you've researched or experienced this continued problem with delayed gratification and getting sucked into instant gratification like internet and socializing while on medication.
ADHD is best treated with a multi-modal approach, a concept you've probably encountered already. Regarding procrastination, I find that low-key accountability helps, but it's hit and miss - for me, my current internship in my field of choice seems to do the trick (with medication, mind you). I've been functional in home office for 2 months now, which is quite remarkable, to say the least (there were 3 months of in-office before that). The "sweet spot" area of accountability is probably different for everyone and might even differ between situations, etc. The gist is this: Try to find a way to create a situation that produces that motivated-yet-accountable effect. Maybe it'll be finding people at college that could benefit from you helping them understand a subject (which would rest upon you engaging with the work well enough to be able to explain and project yourself into their headspace). Whatever it is, it'll involve other people. Maybe just body doubling in a study group might do the trick, it's really quite individual.

I just add in breaks and switch from Adderral to Vyvanse now I’m on Concerta & I take breaks with green kratom. I’ve been on meds for 5 years. It sucks.
After 2 months I went from 30 mg in the morning, to 30 mg in the morning and 30 mg in the afternoon. I can take a 30 mg dose and go to sleep for 6 hours. I have a very high tolerance to meds in general. 60 mg a day is perfect for me. I don't have Adhd, but I'm on it for treatment resistant depression. All the best.
Yeah I think especially the thing about sleep is a thing that not enough people mention I feel life, it has made me feel like a total zombie, and more depressed, the days, where I haven't gotten atleast around 8 hours of sleep
That’s why I take vitamin C supplements and avoid orange juice. And I take tart cherry... and fish oil pills... and Vitamin D. Gotta get 5,000 iu of vitamin D daily. Huge in battling Covid symptoms.
Vitamin D has a key role in dopamine metabolism. I'd imagine it's useful but needs to be appropriate dose/time and co consistent. I hadn't even thought of it though when I've been popping vit C for a cold! Thanks for bringing to our attention..I'll get my geek on and read up the science *disappears into rabbit hole of research*.....
I’ve been on 30mg about 3years. But than you made me realize why I am so ineffective nowadays. Maybe I’ll go on some extra nootropics to support the 30mg. And I’ll try (like a thousand’s time) to improve my sleeping habits. 🤨
For me, melatonin is what helped me gain reasonable control over my sleeping patterns. It makes you tired, which increases your chance to go to bed earlier than you would have otherwise.
Your channel is very informative; because this is your most recent I just wannted to ask if you've covered any info on the costs for seeking a diagnosis/assessment, atleast in the UK?
I’m 17 years old and my doctor started me on 5mg which literally does nothing and is saying it should be enough for my “age group”. Can’t wait to turn 18 so I don’t get treated like a small child anymore 🙏
you need to find another DR, please. Dosage is not determined by age group or weight. There are suggested starting dosages which would be lower with children but your Dr should be increasing the dosage to find what works best for you. Different medications are metabolized differently by your body and amphetamine stimulants work for some while methylphenidates work for others. I'm an RN who ran into a DR like this. It involved a totally different medication but I never went back. You deserve better.
My vvyvanse costs me $6:30 on PBS!! So glad I live in Australia .. I started dex 2 months ago a just flew through the tablets and felt wired .. I only just changed to vvyvanse today and he put me on 50mgs a day .. within an hour I was nodding out due to hardly sleeping these past couple of months
Hello! Btw love your vids! You are very good at explaning things. I hVe a question. They found out that I have adhd at an old age (31) know at 34 I started my medication ritalin. My dose is at 60mg and have been that for maybe a month. But know I'm starting to doubt everything. Can't explain it. I'm very tired on the medication, feel like a zombie, very down in my mood, don't smile at much, don't feel like my self and feel very alone and after my medication me and my girlfriend have been starting to fight alot, she feels like I'm angry on the meds or not my self. We have been together for 8 years. So 2 weeks a go I went of. Felt really good without it, but the spending and everything else started to come back. So I had to start again. So I tried to ask my psychiatry if this is normal. Should I try some other meds but she says no. Do you havr any idea what I should do? Cuz I don't feel like taking them when I feel like this depressed thing walking around..
And one more thing, you may get som serious side effects witch i got on 54mg but now im om 90 and i had bad effects but i waited for a while and they got away after some weeks. And a tip, try to dont think about the pill bicause if you think for example " now i should feel a effect" then you will likely feel the side effects and if you take youre adhd medication and then trying to not thinkg about the pill you took in the morning and focus on other things like work or something then the side effects didint exist. Atleast that worked out for me pretty good.
@@ADHDMastery Wow Thank you so much finally someone that gets it correct " I take Vyvanse 50mg and I agree with u adding a slight bit of an additional to it is Perfect for me & there's nothing wrong at all with doing that at least I think so and i also take an herbal supplement kratom sense I followed them 2 strategys it's made my mental & emotional health way better Thank you
the way some of this video is phrased is concerning, you make it sound like the meds not working anymore is an inevitability you said something about wanting to up slowly because “the maximum dosage not working should be several years down the line”. What’s up with that? if that’s the case, it sounds like medication is a basically a faulty band-aid. I just started on 20mg Vyvanse, felt a novel sense of calmness the first day it kicked in, not much since. Assuming it’s helping a little in the background still but hardly more than speculation
Have you considered or ever tried adding a non-stimulant to your existing dose? My doctor recently prescribed 1mg of Guanfacine at night for me (at my request to help with RSD) but then I noticed after it was in my system and working that my 50mg Vyvanse dose that I had went up to about a month earlier was too strong. I went back down to 40mg and honestly I can notice a difference now. I’m still distracted by my thoughts and stuff in meetings, etc. but I do feel like I am way more than focused on my work during the day. And I can honestly say I have had a much easier time coping with emotions and RSD. People have even commented that I seem more confident now.
@@emilyb5557 no it doesn’t help at night, my doctor told me to take it at night because it’s actually intended as a blood pressure med so it can lower blood pressure. It’s apparently a 24 hour med so rather than dealing with some of the effects of lowered blood pressure they had me take it at night.
I’m a start looking into this like a month ago but I’ve been on Adderall for my ADHD for going on eight years I’ve been taking 20 mg twice a day for eight years and it just seems like it’s not really working or helping me like you used to like I can’t focus and concentrate like I used to be able to What should I do tell my doctor that it seems like it’s not working anymore
Great video, thank you! 10 months down and still trying to find the right dosage and medication. What kind of supplements increases dopamine levels? Also what kind of side effects did you encounter when taking the Vyvanse that: made you want to quit? That went away?
I don’t think supplements usually increase dopamine levels, but L-Tyrosine is the amino acid precursor to dopamine. I think this is what he’s referring to, it helps make sure your body has the right stuff to make dopamine.
I got started on 18mg of concerta, felt the first day that it worked but I guess it was a placebo. I got bumped up to 36 mg and noticed a difference in my focus but no difference in my task finishing or productivity or cleaning & such. Talking to my doc ab 54 hopefully today
You got a good, settled dose now? Everybody responds differently and different side effects. Two days ago I got kicked up to 60 mg methylphenidate slow release. You could've cum seriously! But someone else will go to sleep! Oh btw that was fun!
I have mixed feelings about this video I do appreciate your honesty and we do need to personally adjust doses to see how it works for us. However, sharing ways to take more of a medicine is not responsible. ESPECIALLY, telling listeners exactly how to tamper with a time released pill is extremely dangerous. It’s one thing to talk about taking a half of short acting, but there’s a reason that the long acting medicine is TIME RELEASED. One of your listeners try’s this twice in a short period of time by mistake and it’s almost like taking 5 times the fast acting dose! No disrespect to you, I do appreciate you sharing your personal experiences, I know it’s helped a lot of people. However, the last thing you want to do is have someone ingest half or all of the time released dose in one shot. Not only is it a liability to you personally, but it can seriously harm or kill someone.
I’ve been taking Concerta for one year and it is getting not really work. I feel I do not want to increase so I hope to know if there’s any other way I can concentrate my work without meds.
I think thats something thats worth talking to a doctor about. Impulsivity is a symptom of Adhd, so medication can help with that, on the other hand thats still a legit concern. I know that many physicians have ways of monitoring and working with people with previous substance abuse while giving out medication. Even with medication though, knowing good coping strategies and what works for you is always important and there are resources (therapists, counclers, psychatrists, etc) that specialize in it. Healthygamergg has a great vid on ADHD that goes over that and great strategies to work with adhd.
If you find a good med, you’ll probably be on it for life. I haven’t experienced any withdrawals whenever I stopped taking meds, however, my brain chaos was extremely noticeable when I was off meds. That’s the worst part.
Addictiveness and ADHD seem to go together pretty well, I just received my diagnosis yesterday and didn't hesitate to go on medication as I'm really struggling with Uni, the medication helped me a lot with an assignment I've been trying to do for weeks. If your concerned about the meds, I would consider the impact they will have on your quality of life, for me they make a lot of sense, but everyones circumstance and needs are different. I wouldn't be scared of the medication though, being addicted to alcohol or cigarettes would be far more damaging than a medication pescribed specifically to help with our challenges.
The flipside of the coin is that treating your ADHD is bound to improve your impulse control, to exert more of your agency, basically. As the others have said, definitely talk to a certified professional about this, but keep in mind that medication has the potential to get you into a space that might actually help you deal with issues of addiction.
I know you posted this like 9months ago so you might of sorted it out by now but I had a similar reaction on Elvanse apparently it’s because the dose is too low. 40mg of Elvanse made me really relaxed and sleepy, recently got moved up to 50mg and it’s like night and day so far!
I'm going through titration atm and at 40mg I personally see no difference. I've got combined adhd. So the nurse agreed I should increase the dose by 10mg weekly until I notice a difference, while also tracking my weight pulse and blood pressure weekly.
I've taken methylphenidate both concerta and Ritalin and they both screwed me up, both on low and high dosage. The Concerta 18mg was actually the worst. Been taking Vyvanse 30mg for a month and it does nothing (negative or positive). Doc will probably up it next week.
Can you tell more about your experiences? I’m on my first week of 18 mg concerta and feeling a bit crappy bc of side effects. I hope it’ll get better and actually do sonething other than upsetting my stomach?!
I increased from 18 to 27 feel way more irritable and too hyper. My mouth is beyond dry and so are my sinuses. I think I upped it way too soon as 18mg seems really good for me I was curious though. I think u will always have adhd With any med I realize I just wish I didn’t lol.
Wow thank you i needed this today. I was on 40mg vyvanse for over 1.5 years but had some bad side effects and now I am starting back at 10mg. What would you recommend to increase dopamine levels?
You could supplement with l-tyrosine at the end of the day. Don't take them at the same time though as they are both dopaminergic. I'm not super sure how the dosage would work cause it's dependent on multiple factors. Also if you have hyperthyroidism then more tyrosine could actually make it worse bc it synthesizes into other things too. In short, l-tyrosine is an amino acid that is naturally occuring in the body already and basically the precursor for l-dopa which therefore synthesizes into dopamine. Taking supplemental l-tyrosine when your meds wear off could help restore those levels that were depleted throughout the day and also help to soften any the side effects caused by the meds wearing off! You could also try to include more protein in your diet because foods high in protein like meats, eggs and even cheeses are high in tyrosine as well. My psych told me it's best to take your meds in the morning with a high protein breakfast because protein helps with getting the dopamine to the right places or something of that nature. Hope this helps! :)
Well I was on 5mg for a month and now twice a day but I feel like it’s making me worse or just calm mentally but lack motivation and hyperfocus which was already my problem oh and fatigue😩
I find hay fever meds more effective if I only take a pill (or half a pill) only IF I need it. I don't use many pills during summer, and it's not a regular thing. Not sure if ADHD meds are the same. I don't like meds anyway, so little is better. Something else I noticed since waiting to be referred for diagnosis: I've had an increase in ability to recall information by intermittent fasting, cutting way down on sugar, and eating more blueberries - Not sure which, if any or all, are responsible for this change but it's nice to be able to recall what I read/study a few hours after I do so - something new for me
I got prescribed Ritalin a few days ago and was told to take 1 to 2 tablets in the morning (it's 10mg each). The first day I tried 10mg in the morning and then another 10 at noon but felt no difference. Today I took 15 mg morning and 15 mg noon and still felt no difference other than MAYBEEEE increased heart rate. Wondering if I should take 20mg tomorrow or if I'm maybe just expecting it to feel more significant than it does...
You should get into a deep conversation and then notice if your attention is any different. I had no affects on 10mg, so I thought, until I tested myself
Thank you for the video it was very and taking time to share your experiences. I’m 56 getting ready to turn 57, I’ve been on Vyvanse for almost a year at 40 mg. The last four months I definitely feel a difference in the less effectiveness. I don’t know if I want an increase but I was interested in the supplements you mentioned. What supplements do you take?
acidic urine makes the vyvanse wear off faster and acidic foods acidify the urine. sodium bicarbonate or potassium bicarbonate helps to make the urine PH alkaline so the vyvanse will last longer
So basically the medication for ADHD is quite addictive on the long run. I'm 25 and I've got ADHD (not diagnosed yet) due to financial struggles. Would love to listen to your opinion regarding the effect of Marijuana on ADHD
Can anyone help me with my experience with Vyvanse (30mg). I sometimes get a crash 4/5 hours after taking - is this the half life making me feel a little down? Surely a long lasting med like Vyvanse wouldn’t wear off that quick? I still feel ‘different’ like I can tell it last in my system still (as I thought it should be since it says 10 hours approx lasting) in just a little confused!
I found this happened with me too. But I figured it out, for myself it was because I was not eating the same amount of food as before I started the meds. I set alarms to remind me to eat something about every 2 hours usually yogurt and fruit or some kind of protein and lots of water. I also found taking chromium helped.
I don't think people give you enough credit for having short videos perfect for adhd attention span
I actually wish they were longer.

I totally noticed this!
does a higher dose make tolerance go up quicker? probably a dumb question but im not too informed about stimulant tolerance because im relativly new to adhd meds. i know almost everything about most drugs but i can never find good information about adhd stims for some reason
Yes! I'm noticing that my ADD meds are just useless lately...symptoms are worse than they have been in years! Coincidentally--I've been experiencing perimenopause for several months now...ugh! Talking to my doctor on Monday about increasing my dosage.
So we'll stated! Many people do not realize the huge connection between hormones and stimulants.
You are helping people
Thankyou so much
Thanks Stuart - this made so much sense to me.
I do regular off days. 3-4 days on 1 day off. I feel like this helps with tolerance.
I’d recommend 4 days on 3 days off @10mg of short acting combined with propollolol to increase bioavailability. Much better long term approach
I've tried but its like I have to take it to feel normal. I've just slept till 3 in the afternoon then took it then. I feel tired.
@@Thedrysurrealbloke sounds like you might need to fix your circadian rhythm to get the most out of your medication
@@cameroncroker2936 what does that mean?
What dose is that mate ?
This is so encouraging to see how it might help me on the long run
Btw your videos are so usefull to someone with ADHD, tanks a lot
I've been diagnosed since 2nd grade, I've been taking Adderall for years with great success. I've never had any issues with it. I was at 45-50mg a day, sounds like a lot but I'm not a small guy. Decent mood all day, didn't get too hungry but could still eat. I don't take it anymore, and it took a while but I was able to teach myself how to cope without meds. I could definitely still use it but I don't need it
Weight doesn't impact the metabolism of adderall.
I really appreciate these updates and bites of helpful information. I’d really like to see a tip in regards to gaming in the near future 🎮🙂
So glad to find your channel. Short sweet and to the point.
Thank you for this video, I've just started Elvanse and this has answered a few questions I've been thinking regarding dosage. 👏🏽👏🏽
@@chriszone50 I switched to Mydayis a few months ago. 50mg dose. It really does last all day and there's no crash when it wears off. I really like it.
Is there a difference in efficacy between generic vs non-generic medication?
Yeah everyone responds differently to meds 30mg wouldn’t even be enough for sub- therapeutic dose for me
@@CajunAdrienneMaybe he should present his/her medical degree and history of practice so they can prove why they have any idea what they're talking about lol
I think taking some time off the meds or a reduction in them works well for resensitizing yourself
How do you split it equally since it’s powder ??
Your videos have helped a lot
I never feel a difference, but I do all my schoolwork without getting distracted. Is it placebo? If it’s working should I feel different at all?

PLEASE HELP
Thanks so much dude!
Im 29 years old. Got my ADHD diagnosis yesterday and had my first dose of elvanse 30mg today.
Waiting for it to kick in.
I usually take a week/5 days off every month and my tollerance is fine
Ritalin and stuff too expensive for me especially in my country
I just take enough to take the anxiety away and focus. I dont want to feel a rush or anything else.
I’m on 30mg Vyvanse and I don’t feel anything except some days I fall asleep or feel tired when the medication kicks in. That’s after having a cup or two of coffee.
if you don't use them every single day, will you be less likely to develop tolerance?
Hey! Splitting Vyvanse is my thing! LOL :)
What’s odd is that sometimes I end up splitting an entire capsule (4-6 times throughout the dat) and sometimes I take only half the capsule (1/6 x 4 times per day).
I pay attention to how I’m feeling through out the day and then I take what I feel that I need.
Lately, taking 1/6 to 1/8 between 4 - 6 times about every 2 hours apart seems to be best. Last week it was 1/4 then 1/2 then 1/6.

Motivation is misunderstood. You have motives to clean, pay bills ect,you probably struggle with starting and that's an executive function thing

For me sleep matters on top of taking 2 full days off and a week off every 3 months.
Caffeine greatly increases side effects of my ADHD meds. When I lowered caffeine, I could increase dosage of meds.
I used to take my adderall with a large cup of coffee. Bang, the day starts off on fire but it took its toll fairly quickly
@@christianmathison1182 yea, caffeine really fucks with adderall, makes the medicine exit the body quick

I take weekends off back on Monday-Friday
Mine addy stopped working on day 3. I was on 2 a day. It does not get kick in until after the 2nd dose around 3. And I take the the 2nd dose at 11-1
Yeah I think especially the thing about sleep is a thing that not enough people mention I feel life, it has made me feel like a total zombie, and more depressed, the days, where I haven't gotten atleast around 8 hours of sleep
That's interesting about vitamin C, is that specifically with Vyvanse or does it apply to Concerta too?
I believe so!
From what I’ve heard, it’s not vitamin C that can mess with ADHD meds, but it’s the acidity of citrus that can cause issues.
That’s why I take vitamin C supplements and avoid orange juice. And I take tart cherry... and fish oil pills... and Vitamin D. Gotta get 5,000 iu of vitamin D daily. Huge in battling Covid symptoms.
From my experience, Vitamin C (usually in the form of cuties) is a good way to relieve some of the comedown & chip away at insomnia.
I have 70mg in The morning and 40mg in lunch🫠
Amazing video thanks! What are the dopamine supplements you mentioned?
Hi, what dopamine supplements would you recommend?
I can't find the sweet spot, it seems to change daily, not including the differences in manufacturers

Atleast that worked out for me pretty good.

the way some of this video is phrased is concerning, you make it sound like the meds not working anymore is an inevitability
you said something about wanting to up slowly because “the maximum dosage not working should be several years down the line”.
Interesting you take at night. Does it help you with emotional processing (or distress) at night? Thanks for sharing your experience :)
@@emilyb5557 no it doesn’t help at night, my doctor told me to take it at night because it’s actually intended as a blood pressure med so it can lower blood pressure. key thing is long term tolerance breaks, weeks to month preferably, different for all brains.
What supplements can you take with Vyvanse to help with the dopamine

Can someone please tell me if taking caffeine BEFORE aderall reduces the aderall’s effectiveness?
Coffee is acidic so yes but everyone is different.
That's why I always give a warning or disclaimer to ask doctors first. The onus is on them.
Guys take melatonin omega 3 magnesium and vitamin d with it ! It’s helpful imo
I’ve been taking Concerta for one year and it is getting not really work. I feel I do not want to increase so I hope to know if there’s any other way I can concentrate my work without meds.
How can i dicrease heart attack and anxiety after taking concerta
I get addicted to things easily. I'm wanting to try meds, but worried im i won't be able to stop. Is the this a reasonable thing to worry about?
Of course!
My concerta is putting me to sleep. I have barely been able to stay awake. My focus has not been helped but hindered. Not sure what to do.
I know you posted this like 9months ago so you might of sorted it out by now but I had a similar reaction on Elvanse apparently it’s because the dose is too low. 40mg of Elvanse made me really relaxed and sleepy, recently got moved up to 50mg and it’s like night and day so far!
My 30mg dose lasted 4 days then it plateaued significantly
So in other words 10 mg Adderal per day will not do Anything for most people ??
I looked up dosage and found this because a meth/ adderall addict girl told me she takes 65 mg of adderall a day.
CAN YOU MAKE MORE VIDEOS ON STRATTERA
Hi, what is ur experience with Strattera Plz
@@crazylara0702I’ve experienced the same at first. What helped me avoid that is taking it after breakfast.
Did you ever share with us your results on cbn oil you was taking
stimulants. Have you considered trying something in the methylphenidate group. I'd switch meds
Well I was on 5mg for a month and now twice a day but I feel like it’s making me worse or just calm mentally but lack motivation and hyperfocus which was already my problem oh and fatigue😩
Btw I’m taking adderall Ir 5mg
I’m on Adderal XR 20 mg and I’m really tired. I feel like taking a nap.
I’m on Adderall 20 mg a day and broke 1/2 a capsule now I am afraid that I made a mistake
I find hay fever meds more effective if I only take a pill (or half a pill) only IF I need it. I don't use many pills during summer, and it's not a regular thing. Not sure if ADHD meds are the same. I don't like meds anyway, so little is better.
Something else I noticed since waiting to be referred for diagnosis: I've had an increase in ability to recall information by intermittent fasting, cutting way down on sugar, and eating more blueberries - Not sure which, if any or all, are responsible for this change but it's nice to be able to recall what I read/study a few hours after I do so - something new for me
Adhd is for life. So if you build a tolerance by 10 years your on 200mg a day
I got prescribed Ritalin a few days ago and was told to take 1 to 2 tablets in the morning (it's 10mg each).
Strongly suggest you talk with your provider and follow their recommendations, stimulant meds are usually adjusted weekly for adults
Also curious about the supplements! Any info is appreciated from anyone who wants to jump in!
acidic urine makes the vyvanse wear off faster and acidic foods acidify the urine. sodium bicarbonate or potassium bicarbonate helps to make the urine PH alkaline so the vyvanse will last longer
So basically the medication for ADHD is quite addictive on the long run. I'm 25 and I've got ADHD (not diagnosed yet) due to financial struggles.
Would love to listen to your opinion regarding the effect of Marijuana on ADHD
@@ascgazz Thank you for your kind reply Gazz, i will definitely look into everything you've mentioned above (I already got overwhelmed 🤦♂️)
Hell no! Marijuana will make your ADHD worse in the long run guaranteed...
Can I ask what your doctor think about that you just take your med a few times per week?
She doesn't reccommend it because that's what's they're told to tell you to 'play it safe'.
