What I've noticed is that a lot of these critiques are based on personal preference, like "use shaders" or "use a different font" but most people can't run shaders on their computer and maybe don't even like shaders. And the thing about fonts is they chose the one they did for a reason, because they believed it was the one that fit the thumbnail the most. When you give suggestions like that it feels like you just want the thumbnails to meet your own standards, rather than the actual audience's. Something the simpler thumbnails are the more enjoyable ones because they're easier to look at and show honesty as a creator. If there's shaders in the thumbnail and not in the video that's misleading. The thumbnail is more important than the title because it's way larger and gives you an actual visualizer for what's going to be in the video, and if you don't deliver on that then people are going to click off. My most viral long form video literally has a default thumbnail that RUclips chose, because it showed the actual content.
I agree with the shaders thing, especially with bedrock youtubers. Sure, you can render your character in 3d viewer and stuff, but the backgrounds with blocks are hard to do. About your viral video though, it may have just been something very intriguing.

I found out that ChatGPT can also critique thumbnails. I gave it two of mine and asked it to compare them and it pointed out things that I didn’t even notice.
10:21 aside from the glare I would say this is an incredible thumbnail. As a hive player I can confirm this was definitely a thumbnail for a hive video and many RUclipsrs use that white line thing around the players in their thumbnails. Unfortunately many RUclipsrs use it wrong and have it end up like this. Just wanted to let you know that was a design choice not a mistake.
