Essentials are head mods, jetting and race gas. Bill Cervera makes the best YZ250 and YZ125 pipes on the market. I've ripped a bunch of holeshots on my 250 with Bill's and a VF3 Reed.

Over the top money mods just because if it there was unlimited budget would be stronger better cooling radiators, ceramic bearings, and match the case, aftermarket hubs with excel rims and stronger spokes.
Depends on the Bike. A husky or KTM might be good out of the box. I'm so old my last race bike was a brand new 2001 CR 250. I just got some new bars., grips, a second air filter, and a second set of tires. For.most guys on a budget that's all you need if you're starting with a good platform.
Man could not make my mind up had to buy both yz250 2 smoke and a yz250f. I can’t go out in the garage without a big smile on my face. I grew up really poor with a single mom. I only dreamed of having a dirt bike. Now after a lot of hard work and being in my forty’s I can relive my childhood. What oil mix are you running in the 2 stroke
It’s really hard to pick if you’re just riding for fun and are an old soul like me I would say the yz250 2 stroke. Parts are everywhere and it’s an affordable bike to own plus the 24 does seem definitely different with the power band it’s more like a 4 stroke like the video states. Also pretty fun to ride without having so much engine braken going into corners. If you’re racing and competing and really need a bunch of torque than Mybe the yz250f. There both amazing bike I do find myself putting a leg on the yz250 quite a bit
@@motomatt6752 thanks a lot mate. Am definitely leaning towards the 2 stroke more. They just seem like so much fun. Probably make you a better rider also
Man Ping, you rip. Im 51 and didn't reach the local A class until i was 25. Im fat and slow now but you arguably ride better than in your prime! Thank you for showing us what a top pro looks like now. All of us, "Uncle Ricos," are truly humbled. Love all the content👍
I got a PC pipe/silencer, V-force 3, GYTR flywheel, GYTR filter, GYTR 52 rear sprocket, GYTR SS front brake line and resprung for my weight with 15cc extra in each fork. I love it
Cool video 👍🏻 I bought one of these a few months ago but it’s still sitting in the Yamaha dealership. Got a PC pipe and carbons silencer ready to throw on it. Will get suspension sorted and then get amongst it! Thanks Ping.. love your work.
On these new gen YZ 2 strokes, I would recommend softer seat foam and a cover with more grip. Replacing stock with a Guts seat made a big difference in comfort and cornering on my 125.
Get rid of the 450's and bring back the 250 2 strokes as the Premier class. Hearing you rip that thing reminded me of the good old days at a national. Beer in one hand, and fist waiving with the other. Imagine what Jett or Chase, even Hunter and Coop could do on those things. It would definitely be an unforgettable experience.
Thanks Ping! I’d love to see a deeper dive into what you think it needs next Like stage 2 performance Wondering what you think of flywheel weights for two strokes 👍😎👍
Should look at HITLIS system for the YZ. It's a great setup that doesn't break the bank and it actually adds overrev to the bike. Helps with larger jumps and holeshots
I agree with everything you did with the bike except the V Force reeds you will get better results with just a set of boyesen pro series reeds with some minor jetting changes👍
Love my 50th anniversary YZ250! Why the V force Reed block over the Boysen Rad valve? What is the difference? I have everything done but that. Awesome bike, long live the 2 stroke.
V-Force is slightly better from low to mid throttle. Boyesen Rad valve is slightly better from mid to full throttle. Pick what suits the most to your riding.
What about head work? I'm an X two stroke racer. I rebuilt my own bikes and was a decent mechanic but not much of a tuner. I've had Plenty of ported, polished, Piped, Rad valved two strokes but was always running 94 octane. I heard milling the head or increasing compression and then switching to race gas, is where you really get bang for your buck and big power with a two stroke. What do you guys think?
Yep, that's the secret to these for the last 20 years, deck the head ever so slightly. I want to say like .04, but can't remember the exact spec. That's the first thing to do with the old girl and it's cheap.
Anybody got the stock shim stack specs for a 2015 yz250? Just bought one that's been revalved for a heavier rider, and I'm keen to put it back to stock for myself (158 pounds).
Any word on a fly wheel weight? I read all the pros ran one back in the 2 stroke days.. id like to hear from an ex pro how they run!! Not just some ass hat on thumper talk lol

Put in whatever ratio the manual requires. And it’ll run

Classic 2 stroke Yamaha, thanks for the great tips. As a side note...is that dirt as dreadful as it looks?

@@paulamuller7567 thanks for the answer.
I got both and prefer the vfforce I’ve just been too lazy to switch it back. Throttle response was better with the vforce
I love to build quality of the rad valve. Performance is what matters. I'm leaning towards V force. Thanks for the help.
The v force has gone on every 2 stroke Ive had since 1998.
BIKE BILD!
;) nice catch
By far the best engine mod for the money is an Apex head. Does more than any pipe on the market and starts at $240.

$168 on 2023 BF sale, not sure if they will have 30% off this year, but if you are looking, look then.

What do you think about running x trigs? Because the stock clamps dont have rubbers? Almost all the fast fantic xx 250 riders run x trigs.
A fuel tank, in which you can see the fuel level from the outside, is needed for accurate race fuel load.
Best simple good looking bike of 2024!! I have the same bike with same setup but only the boyesen rad valve that is much better than the v-force

This is assuming you can do it yourself... doesn't sound like you're capable, so you'd have to pay.
