The YZ 250 is really the ultimate platform for anyone that wants to be competitive and have fun either off road or at the Track. It’s Budget friendly, reliable and still looks sooo good.

Lots of ppl harp on its lack of updates to the motor being mostly unchangedsince 99. I see that as the yz's biggest strength to those on a budget. For parts, aftermarket and stock, fb marketplace and ebay are your friends. Plus all the shared knowledge out there when you need to fix it.
Agreed I think people just wish it had the low end to challenge a 4 stroke. For the average rider it’s hard to stay in the power band. But everyone loves the noise until there fat buddy comes past on a 4 pooper. 🚽 then they buy a 4 stroke.
@@K20rotrexfor sure, 450 has way too many advantages. Bs they are forced to race them in the pro class. The fact that nobody can seriously compete on 2t and that it is a huge accomplishment just to make a main should tell the AMA something. Wouldn't price out as many racers either. Should be cc for cc at this point its not 2006 anymore.
STIC Super X carb for running down 450's. For control I use the G2 slowest turn cam on my 200SX. Riders that ride it say its faster than their 350 and KX250 smoker. Very linear, but response and power exceed porting and mapping😮 The original and less powerful 90's version had Pro Rich Taylor state in a mag article that his stock CR250 race bike was faster than the works bikes he tested for Honda.

Rode a newer yz250 and bought a 23 Husqvarna tc250. Man the efi is so nice compared to the carbed smokers. The yz would be king if it had efi and electric start
Would require complete new engine not compatible with the 99+ models. Then it wouldn't be the working man's 250 anymore unfortunately. It's weaknesses are its biggest strengths imo. Do wish they would make the tranny gears stronger though...

Love simple builds. I have a 2024 yz250. Heavier flywheel, pro circuit exhaust and v-force is all it needs 💪
for me the heavier flywheel ist shit on this engine, has four stroke feeling on a twostroke, kills the throttle response.

When are you going to test a HP Race Development YZ 250. Lesher put one of his in a 450 sx main Make it happen !!!

I've got the new STIC Super X carb that is more potent than the STIC metering block in Lesher's YZ.
The only real mod a YZ125/250 engine really needs is an Apex Head spec’d for your fuel of choice! The absolute best $250 you can spend on a YZ engine!
