Second time viewing - It looks like those ruins could support 10,000+ people in the general area. That would be enough to float a local economy. Those tile floors were wonderful. Must have been the pride of a young couple at some point in time. That arch looks like it needs some attention - it only has a few hundred years left of self sustaining.
So Istanbul was Constantinople? Why'd they change it? Can you say? Eh, maybe they liked it better that way. Though I suppose it's nobody's business but the Turks.
Its not known for sure, but they believe the name Istanbul comes from a Medieval Greek phrase (is tim bolin) which means “to the city” and is how Constantinople was referred to by the local Greeks... its all part of history now and no one is around to know for sure :)

@@Just_passing_through23 In any case, Ataturk decided in 1930 that the old name was too Greek for him so he renamed the city.
