This by far the most interesting , informative and entertaining video of this fabulous etude on the internet today. You are a marvel - I wish I had you for my teacher!
@@gregniemczuk It was perfect for me as a learning tool. I can watch it at concert level in so may other videos. Your video is pure gold for a disheartened student of this piece! Thanks again!
Hands down the best explanation of the etude on the internet So simple and such clarity The fight sequence was very apt to understand Thank you very much You are truly a gifted teacher
This video is wonderful. I appreciate you bringing it to us & showing us how you practice and perfect such a difficult piece. The few mistakes do not take anything away, to me, they enrich the detail of what you are playing and make your performance even more meaningful. Thank you so much.
@@gregniemczukto me it😢perfect!😂😅 I finally took courage to start this etude about 2 weeks ago, it will take me a lifetime to learn this but is a worthwhile life project. I enjoy watching your teaching and enthusiasm, I only wish you could be my teacher!😮😅
SO WONDERFUL AS ALWAYS, MAESTRO!!!!! Thank you for my favourite Chopin's "Winter Wind" Etude in an excellent rendition and for your great analysis/tutorial, congratulations for 6.300 subscribers to your channel, you deserve more and more...,again my best regards, have a nice Sunday/happy new week. Joanna
beautiful lesson. I would like to emphasize the importance of keeping the thumb of the right hand more raised in order to free up the movement of the other fingers
Thank you! This was not a typical technical tutorial for pianists but my project of videos for music lovers ,.not musicians. I made a video like this about every Chopin's piece of music. I plan to make technical tutorials later
Thank you so much for all your efforts in making this video!!!! It's truly amazing and commendable... I have been learning piano for a year now and picked this piece up... Ofcourse I am aware it is too early for me, however if I keep practicing everyday I'm sure I'll play it with perfection someday! It will be worth the time given to this etude, it's just beyond explaining :")
You are in possession of the Cortot edition where he gives preparatory exercises with rhythms? One should not become tense and musciling ones way through this is counterproductive. Why must it be played in public or become a goal is immaterial. Just enjoy the piano and what Chopin gave us to discover.
Yes I know that. I simply did not have enough time to practice it as long as it should be as I had a deadline in the Polish Ministry of Culture for this project. But that's not a tutorial videos but analysis so I decided to leave it like this just for music lovers. I hope you understand 🙂 greetings from Poland!
I've played Chopin's P.C. #1 (op. 11) first movement - and got to the place where it sounded pretty good [even all the way through the development; which, for the record, ALSO leaves the arms aching: you must manage the power supply as well as hit all the right notes & phrasing] - and yet I had to give up on this piece! P.S. As regards the title, perhaps more appropriate would be "Winter Tornado"! :P
I play guitar too, and have the 2-handed multi-string tap shredding technique down, I found that beginning (the *real* beginning) part pretty easy to learn, I think there are similarities. Like, 10 min. vs. the weeks to months to stop being terrible at anything from double thirds (I'm probably learning songs in the wrong order...). I am loving this song though it is SO much fun to play. Appreciate the lectures
Heh I uploaded a short to my channel of the arpeggio part on the right hand w/ the metronome going at the tempo called out (at least on the sheet music i have, it says "original" next to the tempo...) wish I'd have done audio in my DAW rather than the phone microphone 🤦♂️ of course that makes it easy to select midi events and apply quantization haha ... def. Nowhere near as even as some performances at that tempo I've seen on RUclips 😔
I found that learning the pattern in bars 9-12 for example is easier when practiced like bars 48-55 in the first ballade. Just thought I’d mention it in case it helps someone.
hey Greg! Thank you for this video and your hard work, I enjoyed it. I have a question for you, do you think this etude is easier if one has learned etude Op. 10 N.1? I want to start a next etude and I really loved this as a kid. Thank you!
Hola soy Santy Porque tocas la izquierda tan mecanizada?? Donde está la Musicalidad y la dinámica???? Te lo destaco porque tu mismo dices que el Canto está en la Izquierda..
Do you exercise this piece with metronome and what speed? And what is the true speed for this piece by Chopin? I'm learing this pieces now and I got to 110 BPM But still straggling. Please for some advice 🙏 Thank you Greg!
No. This video is not intended to judge my playing because it's not a performance. I had little time to prepare it but I had to do it because of the project and deadline. You don't know the whole story, everything was happening during lockdown. In this video the analysis and words are more important than just playing. This year I'll make a studio recording of all the etudes and they will be perfect. I'm sorry if you didn't know. But - never judge anyone without knowing the whole story and background
Hey. Of course you are 100% right! But this video is not about playing. You need to understand the while project. I was just before the deadline of the whole year's scholarship project to make analyses of all Chopin's music for piano. I was rushing with the etudes and this was almost the last video. I didn't have time to prepare it well but it was not the point. The point of those videos were lectures for music lovers, not showing off how fantastic I can play. But I'm preparing now the complete recording album of all Chopin's music (already six CDs are published and you can find them on Spotify on my name - Grzegorz Niemczuk). It was a very hard project during the pandemic. So if you have some emphatic you will understand. Best, GN

Took me almost 2 years of daily practice just to get it memorized at a medium slow speed

Im wondering how many extra brains it takes to be able to play parts of this etude while explaining it, all in one take. This is monumental.

Mr. Greg you had a very wonderful performance !
Thank you so much for this videos. I still dont know how I get to them but for real they helped me soo much!
Wow!! What emotion! What chaos and fire! Fantastic. I can feel this is the real Chopin. Most others I've heard now come across as Chopin on Valium.
Thank you!!!
I love how clear the left hand’s chromatic scale sounds at 35:51

It might take me 2000 years as I feel I can only learn one note per year some days!
So if this étude is the queen of the Etudes, then what is the king? That’s quite an important question.
Maybe C-major op.10 no. 1....
Hi again Greg! Excuse me, do you think you could analyze "Beethoven Moonlight Sonata Op.27 No.2?
