This is the BEST blanket tutorial of the many I've seen using this stitch! Thank you! I've made two baby blankets using this pattern so far and they turned out beautifully. I used Caron Simply Soft #4 wt yarn in white and still used a K hook. I started with a chain of 92 (90 + 2). It made a soft lofty blanket that was slightly larger than 28 inches, which is what I was hoping for. For Row 1, I worked the SC stitches into the back nubs of the beginning chain, which is what I generally do, but otherwise strictly followed your pattern directions. There are many blanket videos using this stitch but none are as good or as clearly explained as this one, imo. Many of the others don't include the first row of SC, which is needed. If they mention it at all they don't tell you how many stitches to put in the beginning chain (a multiple of 3, then add 2 more stitches). Also this border is perfect for this blanket imo. The blanket has a lot of texture and needs a clean, simple border. (I did not add any pompoms to mine.) This blanket is excellent for both boys and girls, and in white or maybe cream you can't go wrong even if you don't know the gender or nursery colors. You're an excellent teacher; thanks and God bless! One other note about joining a new skein for beginners, because a couple of comments have asked: There may be other good ways to do it, but to join a new skein, I pull up the loops (will be 2 loops if a SC and 3 loops if a DC) of the stitch on my hook, then grab the yarn of the new skein with the hook to pull it through the loops to complete or continue the stitch as usual, leaving both tails at least about 6 inches long. Before weaving the tails in later, I tie a simple knot (not too tightly) and then weave each end in separately, changing directions a few times. I don't think you have to tie a knot, but I do, and it's not noticeable. ("Belt AND suspenders," LOL.) I also recently learned that we are supposed to cut out any joining knot in the yarn done at the factory (if there are any in the skein), and then work as when attaching a new skein. A rep of Lion Brand yarn said the factory knot may not be strong enough to last, so don't just crochet over it! I didn't know that and would be upset if the blanket came apart later. Hope that helps someone.
@@thivikap236 For me, it takes a little more than 3 skeins of the Caron Simply Soft #4 wt, but I crochet with a loose tension and use a K hook. You might could do it with 3 skeins, but it takes a little of the 4th skein for me. There's a lot left over in the 4th skein. These skeins contain 6 oz. and 315 yards of yarn in each skein. I got mine at Joanne's.
I'm quite an experienced crocheter and knitter now too, but when there's a pregnancy announcement, I always come back to this video to make this blanket because it works up so quickly and people love it! Thank you!
I managed to make my first ever baby blanket (2nd ever crochet project) after following these instructions. I had to replay a few parts in the video before I fully understood and even then I made some mistakes along the way... but the finished project still came out absolutely beautiful and I am so grateful!
Encouraging to hear! I'm having to relearn crochet after only doing knitting for about the last 45 yrs, & it's taking me time! However 1 of my girls is due with her 1st baby, & this is the project I'm going to tackle to get me back crocheting. Such a lovely "how to" video & easy to follow. Thanks for your post, encouraging me back in 😊.
I am a long time knitter. I used to crochet a long time ago so I am a bit intimidated. Your video with the slow progress and showing exactly where to put your stitches was exactly what I needed. Thank you so much. New sub
Someone I know is having their first baby. She always liked my crochet. Think I should crochet her a Baby Blanket. 🙂 They had issues for years having one. She had to go through a lot. So this will be a Miracle baby. This pattern is pretty.
This was my first crochet project! I used a cream colored baby yarn and I’m in love. I learned not to stress about counting the rows and just gauge by how big I wanted to make it as I went. I had such a good time making this… lots of crocheting while watching the world cup
@@madisonbriggs8524 If you use a rather large hook (I use a K hook with #4 wt yarn) and don't crochet tightly (use a loose tension), this blanket is lofty and "squishy" (not dense) so it might be "breathable." Not sure exactly what that means, though. It makes a beautiful soft blanket.
@@haileyreeves7989 It has to be a multiple of 3, and add 2 more for the beginning chain. For example, 3 x 30 = 90, + 2 = 92. I use a beginning chain of 92 and it comes out right going by her instructions for the pattern. That was the only part of the directions that was confusing for me. 92, 89, 86 will all work.
I just finished my first baby blanket using this tutorial. Thank you so much! I loved stitching this. It's easy to do and easy to keep track of where you are in the pattern which is something I have trouble with. I'm going to keep this on file and make regular blankets and shawls from it too.💕
I've made two so far and they turned out beautifully! This is going to be my go-to baby blanket. There are many videos showing this stitch but none I've seen are nearly as good as this one. The border is perfect for it, too.
Just learned crochet with you. I am a knitter for 60 years but never learned crochet. Very easy tutorial with you keeping the pace slow to give me time to catch up to you. Lovely blanket for my first crochet baby blanket. So far I have not made any mistake and although it’s not perfect I am happy of the result. Thank you you do beautiful work.
Thank you for this. I have just made this for a friend who's expecting; I wanted something a bit different that would still be quick to make up, and this fit the bill perfectly. It was also my first time properly edging a piece, so thanks for the inclusion of that as well.
I wish I could add a photo, but I finished this today - my very first crochet project. Of all the things, I found the corners on the border the most challenging. It looks so nice and I’m very proud of myself. Thank you 🙏
Thank you for your tutorial. I shall try for sure. I made phone pouch with this pattern with 31 stiches, 5 rows of this pattern, 1 row dc, 5 rows pattern again, 1 row dc and 2 small handles. It looks beautiful!
EDIT: I figured it out and wanted to post it for anybody who was confused as I was myself. You need to come up with a number of stitches that is divisible by three, and then add two stitches to it to cast a total. In my case I cast 102 stitches and added two for 104. 102 is divisible by three 34 times, that means the pattern of the little bubbles will appear 34 times per row on the blanket. I love how detailed your instructions are, that we can follow you step-by-step, and the close up shots! But as a relatively new crocheter I am confused by the stitches I am supposed to cast. You say a multiple of 3+1+ 1 extra and I’m not sure how that comes to 80. I wanted to make my blanket bigger but was not sure how many stitches to cast so I started out with 100 but then in the second row I was only two stitches away from the end instead of three, and the blanket wasn’t quite the width that I wanted, so I started over. This time I cast 116 stitches and I will see when I get to the third row if I have enough. Please explain to me the math with the multiples of 3+1+1, I am confused as to how to calculate that. If I am casting more than 80, what is the next few numbers of stitches between 80 and 120 that I should cast please?
Hi Elke, thanks for your lovely feedback and I'm really pleased that you worked out how to make your blanket bigger! 👏 In the description box below each of my videos, I put more information and a link to the free written pattern to help everyone out. With this particular pattern, you can see how I worked out the multiple in the ‘Pattern Notes’ section of the free written pattern here: maisieandruth.com/easy-crochet-baby-blanket-the-barclay-baby-blanket/ Thanks again and I hope that you have a lovely week ahead 💝
I wondered that, too. (And the links always just bring up a blank page on my laptop and don't work, so I still don't know the explanation for the math. I don't understand the +1 +1.). I've made two so far and I used a #4 wt yarn (Caron Simply Soft) and a K hook because I like it lofty. Iirc, I started with a beginning chain of 92, did the first row of SC just as she does, and it worked out correctly.
@@MaisieandRuth The links never work for me. They just bring up a blank page, no error message or anything at all. I don't totally understand the +1+1. However, starting with a chain of 92 (90 + 2) worked for me. (I used a smaller #4 yarn and still used a K hook and loose tension. I wanted a lofty and slightly larger blanket and it turned out great.) You are an excellent teacher!
Just finished my first baby blanket and it is gorgeous! Thank you for instructions. Very easy to follow even for a beginner. Thank you. Will start on a new project following your channel. 👍
I'm attempting to get back into crocheting after a long time and will try this tomorrow! A wonderful tutorial; thank you! My first son will be born sometime in the next month and I've been meaning to make something for him 😊
Congratulations, how exciting!! 👶💙 That's great you've got back into crocheting 👏 I hope you enjoy making up the blanket, it's a relaxing project and the finished blanket is lovely and squishy 😊
Thank you so much for your great feedback and I will continue to make more tutorials for you! I am sure they loved your present 🥰 Have a wonderful day!
What a lovely and easy blanket. I need to make a blanket for my grandson who is 13 and I think this one would be perfect for him. He already picked out Bernat Velvet in a really pretty variegated blue.
I’ve just completed this blanket and I was quite pleased with the results. Thank you for sharing, your instructions made it easy to follow. You are an excellent teacher. Thanks again.
Thank you for the tutorial that's very easy to follow. I needed a pattern that wasn't too complicated, just about to start the border. Absolutely love it and hope my friends new granddaughter will too 😊
Thank you! 🥰 Yes, please do! You just need to pay attention for the first few rows then once you've mastered the repeat, you'll be able to work it up in no time 💞
Joan, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how well it will turn out. 😌 I’m also a beginner and with the simple and easy instructions, I’m more than happy with mine. I just have to make the Pom poms. Good luck. Thanks to the lovely instructor. 🧶 🤗
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you talk us through your pretty blanket. You give very good instructions at every stage. Please stay safe and well too
You're so very welcome... I'm really happy to hear that you found the instructions clear and you enjoyed the tutorial overall 😃 Good luck with your blanket, it looks gorgeous made up in any weight of yarn and size of hook 💞
Many thanks. Started this blanket last night. Really pleased with the easy pattern for beginners. Your videos are so well explained and easy to follow.
hie, I want to work on it myself too. did you also use 100%acrylic yarn? I'm having trouble choosing good yarn for the blanket and I'm from a different country, we don't have this specific type of yarn but, really happy for you! how did it go with your blanket?
Thank you so much for this blanket pattern ! Your directions are so easy to follow ! I started a blanket last week and the design is so beautiful. I have a lot of leftover yarn to use up and will be starting more. I am 77 and haven't crocheted in many years. You really encouraged me to get back to my crochet hook.
Just finished the blanket, was using a size 8 mallow color acrylic yarn. This was my very first crochet project, thank you very much for all your help via this video. I am super happy with the result and hopefully my best friend’s daughter will be happy with it as well as it will be a gift for her. All the best and hugs from Hungary xx
I just made this blanket and it was easier than the finished blanket would suggest! I made it a bit larger with a beginning chain of 92 (90 + 2); next time might try 89 (87 + 2). I couldn't find #5 wt. baby yarn so I used Caron Simply Soft #4 wt. and a K hook with loose tension. I wanted it lofty and squishy. I worked into the back nubs of the beginning chain for Row 1. For this one, on the border I used a J hook for rounds 2 thru 4 of the border to get a little firmer edge. I did not add any pompoms to it. It took 3 skeins (315 yards each) and a little bit of a 4th skein. I'm very pleased with how it turned out. Thank you for this tutorial! I'll make more of these.
@@GiangsKorner Glad to help! I'm not an expert crocheter and this blanket turns out great! The finished blanket looks harder than it is, LOL. The hardest part for me was figuring out the beginning chain, but it's a multiple of 3, plus add 2 more. (90 + 2 = 92 in all, for example.). Also I have a little trouble knowing where to place all the SCs going down the two sides, but that's just me. The rest is easy! (Thank you, M&R!) I think I'll get better with that part. I'm now making my third blanket using this pattern. 😊
Dear Amanda i love your sweet voice and the beautiful works you show us.....please don't stop ever an thank you for your perfect explaining and the love you put in whatever you do!❤️
Just coming up to my last round of edging. I absolutely loved making this blanket for when baby no.2 arrives. I used Aldi's big ball of Aran in teal 😍 and still have loads left. Thank you so much for sharing! I really struggle to read crochet patterns so seeing it visually is best for me ☺️ and then when I've finished I attempt to read the pattern knowing what I've just done x
You're so welcome - glad you enjoyed the tutorial! The teal colour sounds lovely, good choice 👍 And wonderful news about baby no.2... congratulations! 💗
I just finished my blanket. I used a variegated blue yarn. It came out beautifully. This is the 3rd pattern of yours that I have used. Thank you for the wonderful tutorials. ❤️
This is an amazing tutorial, you’re voice is very soothing, no loud music, no drama, very very well presented. My new “to go “stitch. Thank You for taking the time to make this amazing tutorial.
I love this blanket and I just started today to crochet with my finger and I feel like it's going to be hard cuz I have to sleep in a few hours but I am willing to make a blanket for my baby brother. And I'm 11 years old. I wanted to ask how long it took you to make this blanket? Your blanket looks amazing!
Thank you, I'm so glad you like it! 🥰 It took me a couple of evenings to make this blanket but I've been crocheting for many years! The main thing is to take your time when making it, get used to the stitch pattern and don't rush it... enjoy the process! 😊 💕
Thank you for the video! It was my first time making a baby blanket and your instructions were clear and easy to follow. Used #4 yarn with 4.5mm hook and 3 balls of yarn ( each ball approx 255m). Made 104 foundation chain, width: 58cm (including border), 54cm (w/o border); length 68cm (including border). I did 5 rows for the border as 4 rows looked thin for my blanket. Off to do the next blanket using 122ch ^^
Hi Kelly! Congratulations! Thank you so much for your comment! 💝 I am very glad to know and I hope you have a great weekend. Enjoy working on your next blanket! 😃
You've made this look incredibly easy and it's BEAUTIFUL!! You're a wonderful teacher and your voice is so calm. Thank you! Can't wait to make this blanket!
Thank you so much! I just completed this blanket for my sisters new baby girl. I did pink with a white border, it worked out beautifully. Very great video!
Hi! I just completed this today as my very first project. Thank you for your excellent instructions and showing how to every step of the way. I worked it in a dark purple to use as a dog blanket and it turned out very well especially for a beginner. I may do it again in a fun pastel confetti to give as a baby blanket. It was very easy work and great practice for basic stitches. Thanks again!
Well I even don’t know Where to start! Thank for this video is not enough! I just finished mine for my son and it look so beautiful every one loved ❤! I wish I could share the pictures! Thank you so much for this video ❤
One of my favorite stitches! 😃 Beautiful blanket! 😍 The pom poms on the corners add an adorable touch. Great tutorial, thank you! And also a huge thank you for the free written pattern! 🤗🌷🥰💜
Thank you so much! 🥰 You're so welcome ♥️ I agree, this stitch looks so good and the bonus is that it's so easy to work up! 👌 I'm happy that you enjoyed the tutorial 😊
Thank you so much for posting this, it's just what I need! I'm a novice at crocheting and want to make a baby blanket for my daughter, who is expecting a boy. I've tried some other patterns but they have been so confusing. You take your time in video explaining so well for someone like me. I can't wait to see end result and I might even try the Pom Poms too!
i'm left handed, so I had to watch you a couple of times. Love how you explain things and beautiful pattern. Will start tomorrow and using a baby chunky yarn. Excited! thank you so much.
You're so welcome! 🥰 I'm glad you managed to figure it out 👍 Good luck with your blanket, I love working this particular stitch - so easy and relaxing. Thanks for your lovely feedback on my tutorial 😊
I have just started my first project from yourselves and am so delighted, you take ur time to show us during the video and also the large pattern in yellow boxes, thank you 🙏 so much, you have made it so easy, ❤xx
I am currently making this blanket. I am in love with my blanket so far and I am not even finished yet! Super easy pattern and video is great to follow. I am using smaller yarn so I made a gage to know how much I should chain.
I'm so happy to hear that your blanket is coming along nicely! 😃 Yes, this blanket looks equally as gorgeous in a lighter weight yarn 👍 Well done for doing a gauge swatch too! 💞
I just loved this blanket. I'm going to be a mom soon and want to make this for my baby. I have never done crochet, don't know if I'll be able to make,...still I want to give it a try. I have ordered crochet hook and yarn... Need prayers 🙏
Congratulations, that's wonderful! 👶🍼 If you need to slow the video down you can do this in the video settings. Also, I suggest that you practise this pattern with a small sample square: begin with a foundation chain of 20 then start following the pattern from row 1. Here is the free written pattern with lots of photos to help you further maisieandruth.com/easy-crochet-baby-blanket-the-barclay-baby-blanket/ Good luck with your blanket! 💖
Thank you so much for the tutorial. You are a great teacher. I've started the blanket and because of your instructions, it is turning out great and is a fun stitch.
I had been working on another beginner crochet baby blanket and because of frustration regarding the RUclips tutorial quit and tried this one. The slow explanation and pointing to the correct stitch was so helpful. I'm almost done and appreciate this channel.
What an amazing Chanel and teacher every single step of the way taught in such a manner anyone could follow . I am literally a beginner and listening and following your instructions I found so easy , plus your calming voice put me at ease . I hope I can manage to complete this task as my new Grandson is arriving early November . Thank you so much
Hi Janet! Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know 🥰 I am very glad to be able to help you and I hope you can make it in time for your new grandson! Congratulations🥳 I hope you have a beautiful week ahead 😘
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I really appreciated your teaching style. The slow pace of your crochet stitches and explanations are super helpful for a beginner. This is my favorite tutorial yet as I learn crochet (for my new grandbabies!).
You're so very welcome, Dani! I'm really pleased to know that you're enjoying my tutorials! 🥰 Enjoy the rest of your week and happy crocheting for your new grandbabies! 💝
Just made this for my first grand baby that’s on the way! Thank you for sharing this and your video was so easy to follow! It turned out wonderful and I’m sure he will love it!
My daughter is pregnant and has requested I make her a baby blanket. I’ve never crocheted in my life. I found this pattern very easy to follow. I’m halfway done and I’m very pleased with the results.
LP I am in process of making this lovely blanket for my first grandson, but just wondering, how many yarns should I leave for the borders and bonbons? Would appreciate your response.
May 21, 2021. I’m try a blanket. Wish there was a way to show it when I’m done. I’m doing crochet for the very first time. N your tutorial make me feel like a pro.
I'm so glad my tutorial is giving you the confidence to attempt your first crochet project! 😊 I would love to see your finished blanket... if you're on Instagram you can post a photo of your blanket and tag me using @maisieandruth 💞
I started this pattern in white baby yarn yesterday. It is a very neat and beautiful pattern. Can't wait to finish it. I have used a hook size 4 and made my chain 120 stitches. It's working out well so far. X
She is a great teacher! I'm starting on my third blanket using this pattern! I start with a beginning chain of 92 and use Caron Simply Soft #4 wt yarn and a K hook. It turns out very soft and squishy. I couldn't find a #5 wt yarn I liked.
Thank you very much for this tutorial. You made it look very easy simple but very elegant. I just had a little grand daughter last week. I'm definately going to make it for her. I hope it comes out as beautiful as your blanket. Keep up the good work. You are my inspiration. And I will definately learn a lot from you. Thank you. And best wishes.
Hi Debra! Awe you're so very welcome! 😘 And many congratulations to you on the news of your little baby granddaughter! Have a lovely weekend and happy crocheting 💝
I have started this blanket and loving the stitch it is very neat. Thanks for the great clear instruction video. Im a basic crocheted and chose this video as I like your video found it easy to follow nice and slow video of the stitch. Great job
Thank you for explaining very well, this is my first ever attempt making crochet and with your video I can do it! I’m making this blanket for my baby! It’s our first child and it’s a little girl and I’m so excited I could make something for her that she could keep and go through generations! Thank you! Excellent video! Keep with the good work☺️
@@MaisieandRuth Thank you! Thank you!🙏🏻 I’m so happy that we connect and I know all the hard work behind a video, so it’s good that sometimes the people appreciate your work because you feel that you have a purpose😊 so thank you and happy to connect☺️ have a wonderful day✨
Just finished my blanket such a lovely textured blanket. I really enjoyed making it, thanks for such an easy step by step tutorial, will definitely look out for more by you x
Dear Maisie and Ruth: Please clarify the chain count. Isn't it multiple of 3+2 instead of multiple of 3+1? (78 is multiple of 3 + 2 = 80). Want to clarify this count before I start the chain since I am making a bigger baby blanket. Loved your tutorial and pattern. Thank you in advance for your response.
The multiple is 3 + 1. You then add 1 extra for the foundation chain. For this particular pattern I chained 80 in total (I chained 78, which is divisible by 3, then 1 extra chain was made. A further 1 chain was added for the foundation chain). Thank you, hope you enjoy working it up! 💕
I am in the process of this blanket- I am following your pattern, same yarn and color, and hook size. I purchased from the site you suggested. So far it’s perfect thanks to your thorough instructions! Looking forward to the border! I’ll keep you posted, once finished! 🙏🏼
Thank you, Ellen - I'm really pleased to hear that you're enjoying working up the blanket so far! 🥰 I would love to see it when finished! If you're on Instagram, you can tag me using @maisieandruth 💞
...currently using with two strands of sport weight (baby), one solid, one variegated, size 10 hook. It's working up beautifully. I love this pattern for its one row repeat, so easy to do while TV watching. Thanks for the pattern! ♥️
That sounds lovely! 😊 This blanket looks great with all types of yarn 👍 And yes, it's an ideal TV project! So relaxing and meditative. Thanks for watching and I'm really pleased you're enjoying working the blanket up 💖
@@MaisieandRuth would you believe I just pulled all my work out (and edited my comment!) to start over with a size 10 hook?! I have always been a bit tight-handed with my crocheting and was worried that not only what I run out of yarn, but I would also have a baby blanket that felt more like one of those x-ray capes than it would a soft blankie!! This size 10 hook seems to be doing well for my two strands!
@@AmyandIrving Bit of a pain having to frog your work but it's worth it in the end to get the result you want. I tend to use a slightly bigger hook than recommended to give the blanket more drape.
I have used your pattern for dozens of blankets, for gifts and for donation. I crochet a double strand of sport weight for the blanket, using a size 10 hook, then bordering the blanket with one row of double strand size 8 hook. From there I go to single strand, size 7 hook to make five rows of solid border, finishing with one row of half double crochet border. The solid, slightly tighter border really makes the texture of the blanket pop. And the double strand blanket, whether two strands of solid or one strand of solid and one strand of variegated, really looks gorgeous with this stitch. I've shared your pattern with others as well. Thanks again for posting...
I love the blanket and I am looking forward to doing it. Your instructions are really easy to follow and your voice is so soothing. Thank you again for your tutorial and your time.
Trying this as my first following an actual pattern crochet blanket.... 3 rows and I'm calling it a night 😊 it looks somewhat like it's supposed to but my tension is a bit inconsistent- how tight or loose should the yarn be when your holding it?
Hi Sara Marie, first of all thank you for watching the video! 😊 I have some tips for you that should hopefully help you with your tension: 1. Start off with a small sample. Make a foundation chain of 20 then follow the pattern from there. It will be easier for you to handle the yarn and hook whilst practising the stitch pattern at the same time. 2. Try to keep your hands and fingers relaxed. Your mood affects your tension, if you are tense you're stitches may end up pretty tight too! 3. Use a quality yarn and hook. Cheaper products can cause your work to snag and pull. I really like the crochet hooks by Clover, the yarn just glides over (even with cheaper, scratchier yarns). Your experience of crocheting will be completely different and much more enjoyable if you use reputable brands. 4. Practise practise practise! This really is key. The more you practise the more your hands will get used to holding the yarn and hook. You will start to feel more comfortable and get into a good rhythm. There is no right or wrong way to hold the yarn and hook, just use the technique that feels most comfortable for you. I hope this helps, keep at it as it will get easier with time and practise. 💞
Thank you so much for that tutorial! It was so very well explained 🥰! As for the number of stitches, it was a little bit confusing, but I made it work. I am going to see if you have a tutorial for newborn booties, because I have tried a few already from other people, and I am getting frustrated 😢. Since you explained this one so well, I am confident that I am going to be able to make a beautiful pair of newborn booties. Lots of blessings!
Looks really good and look forward to starting this. Could you perhaps give me an idea how much yarn is needed for 28"x28" blanket. I have watched your tutorial and found it so easy to understand so thenk you for that
I'm so glad that you enjoyed the tutorial! 😊 For this blanket I used 5 balls of Paintbox Yarns Simply Chunky. You can find all the details and more photos in the free written pattern 💕 maisieandruth.com/easy-crochet-baby-blanket-the-barclay-baby-blanket/
I looked up the paintbox simply chunky that you said in video, and it is weight 5. We do not have paintbox here, so I used another yarn with 5 weight. The blanket is pretty, but too heavy for a baby blanket. It actually looks like you are using a 4 weight yarn your using in your tutorial. Can you please verify, thank you
Loving this pattern, making one for my neighbors great granddaughter soon to be born. Your tutorial was clear and easy to watch. Thank you for sharing this pattern. 😀
Your tutorial was awesome…just a great job of explaining every detail! I have especially needed help with borders, and what I do specifically once I get to rounds 2, 3, and 4. Most instructions just say repeat row one, but yours were very specific and answered my specific questions. Do you have any suggestions for alternate yarns for a squishy baby blanket? Thank you for a great tutorial!
That's great, I'm so glad that you enjoyed it and found it helpful! 😊 For baby blankets, I really enjoy working with Paintbox Yarns (link in the description box). I also like working with Stylecraft yarn and Deramores own brand of yarn too 💕
How much yarn do you need to make this blanket..28x28. I have been watching your tutorials and they are so clear...I am just learning to crochet...having so much fun! I made your baby booties and hat
Your tutorial was absolutely fantastic! I loved the written pattern and how you show in detail the certain stitches. Love, love this. Thank you so much. I have been crocheting for one year now.
Welcome to the crochet community! 👋 Thanks for your lovely feedback... I'm so glad that you enjoyed the tutorial and found the photos in the free pattern helpful too 😃

❗You may use a different weight of yarn for this project however you will need to adjust the length of your foundation chain. Make a foundation chain that equals the width you would like your blanket to be. The starting chain should be a multiple of 3 + 1 (plus 1 extra for the foundation chain). You can see how I worked out the multiple in the ‘Pattern Notes’ section of the free written pattern: maisieandruth.com/easy-crochet-baby-blanket-the-barclay-baby-blanket/ You will then work your blanket until you have reached the desired length.
For ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS, I would suggest that you practise this pattern with a small sample first: make a chain of 20 then follow the pattern from there.

How many balls of wool is needed 🤔
@@theresagriffin7071 ..
One other note about joining a new skein for beginners, because a couple of comments have asked:
There may be other good ways to do it, but to join a new skein, I pull up the loops (will be 2 loops if a SC and 3 loops if a DC) of the stitch on my hook, then grab the yarn of the new skein with the hook to pull it through the loops to complete or continue the stitch as usual, leaving both tails at least about 6 inches long. Before weaving the tails in later, I tie a simple knot (not too tightly) and then weave each end in separately, changing directions a few times. I don't think you have to tie a knot, but I do, and it's not noticeable. ("Belt AND suspenders," LOL.)
I also recently learned that we are supposed to cut out any joining knot in the yarn done at the factory (if there are any in the skein), and then work as when attaching a new skein. A rep of Lion Brand yarn said the factory knot may not be strong enough to last, so don't just crochet over it! I didn't know that and would be upset if the blanket came apart later. Hope that helps someone.
Hi, how many yarns did you need for the blanket you stitched, please?
New sub

Yes, this makes a beautiful blanket! I hope the baby is doing well. God bless.
Can’t I use. Ber not. Yarn for this blanket?

This was my first crochet project! I used a cream colored baby yarn and I’m in love. I learned not to stress about counting the rows and just gauge by how big I wanted to make it as I went. I had such a good time making this… lots of crocheting while watching the world cup
Is this blanket breathable?
Same for me. I just add rows until the blanket is as tall as I want relative to the width. I can't tell one row from another, LOL!
But doesnt it have to be a multiple of 3😭
@@haileyreeves7989 It has to be a multiple of 3, and add 2 more for the beginning chain.

Thank you 🙏
You're so welcome! 😊 And congratulations on completing your first crochet project, well done!! 🎉

Thank you Jeanette 💝 I have no doubt! I wish you the best 😘
I agree. You explain everything so well and such a soft voice 🙂
Great to hear that you enjoyed the tutorial also! 😊 And thank you, I appreciate your feedback ❤️❤️
Thank you for your tutorial. I shall try for sure. I made phone pouch with this pattern with 31 stiches, 5 rows of this pattern, 1 row dc, 5 rows pattern again, 1 row dc and 2 small handles. It looks beautiful!
That is great! Thank you so much for your comment 💝 I am glad that you liked the design 😊 I hope you have a great time working on the blanket.
I wanted a lofty and slightly larger blanket and it turned out great.)
You are an excellent teacher!
I don't get it either

Many thanks. Started this blanket last night. Really pleased with the easy pattern for beginners. Your videos are so well explained and easy to follow.
hie, I want to work on it myself too. did you also use 100%acrylic yarn? I'm having trouble choosing good yarn for the blanket and I'm from a different country, we don't have this specific type of yarn
but, really happy for you! how did it go with your blanket?
The wool I used was 100% acrylic turned out great. Will be doing another one soon

Am I the only one that thinks ch 80 is still a bit small for a newborn?
Easy enough to scale it up.
If you use the paintbox wool that is showing this pattern then its big if you use just double knitting wool you need more than a 80 chain
I thought so till I saw it was chunky yarn.
Yarn weight makes a huge different lol if you’re using a 4, that’s probably really small. If you’re using like a 6, that should be fine
Absolute beginner here, so probably a stupid question - how do I know the weight of the yarn? I can't see it on the yarn label
My first non granny square blanket- so simply explained. Thank you - have finished 2 this week did 102 +2 ❤
I just made this blanket and it was easier than the finished blanket would suggest!
Thanks for your info about how much yarn needed for the project. I was looking for this to estimate how much to buy. ❤😊

Thank you very much for this tutorial. You made it look very easy simple but very elegant. I just had a little grand daughter last week. I'm definately going to make it for her. I hope it comes out as beautiful as your blanket. Keep up the good work. You are my inspiration. And I will definately learn a lot from you. Thank you. And best wishes.

I've used this to make a pile of blankets to send to the premature baby unit, thank you ❤
Just finished my blanket such a lovely textured blanket. I really enjoyed making it, thanks for such an easy step by step tutorial, will definitely look out for more by you x
You're very welcome, Debbie! So glad you enjoyed making it! 🥰👏
How many spools of thread did you use?
@@aily2650 I used 400g of yarn I think
How long did it take?
Thank you so much! You are an amazing teacher. I had no problem following your directions. This is my first project and my blanket looks great!
You're so welcome, Margaret! ❤️I'm so pleased that you enjoyed the tutorial! 🥰
Could I start with 100 in the initial chain?
@@MaisieandRuth you’re saying 3+1+1, so basically 3+2 😂
@@avf326 You can chain as many as you want to chain. The left over chains can be picked out and weave in the end!
@@avf326 you would need 101
99 is the multiple of 3 (33x3)
+1 +1(or +2) =101
I am in the process of this blanket- I am following your pattern, same yarn and color, and hook size.

Hi though I'm 11 yrs old,I practiced your blanket desingn and it's so beautiful thank you very much

Loved this baby blanket! Will do one for my great grandchild! Thanks!
I'm so pleased that you enjoyed the tutorial! 💝
I have some tips for you that should hopefully help you with your tension:

Can you please verify, thank you
Vidéo très claire de ce fait j'ai pu la réaliser et l'offrir à un bébé qui venait de naître .Elle a été très appréciée Merci beaucoup
Loving this pattern, making one for my neighbors great granddaughter soon to be born. Your tutorial was clear and easy to watch. Thank you for sharing this pattern. 😀
You're very welcome and I'm so glad that you enjoyed the tutorial! 😊💕
Very easy to follow your instructions. Thank you
Brilliant, Karen! 🤗 You're very welcome 💝
