Oh the fun we have. I live in the south and worked at a Cadillac/KIA dealership (imagine that) for a long time, back when KIA’s were disposable cars. . We hated seeing those northern cars come in, especially the older jobs before everything had stainless brake lines. Thanks for the tour, man. It was cool.
I've been using a scratch awl to deepen panel lines. Simple to sharpen or reshape the tool.
I just ordered the tamiya scriber.
That is one of the best tools I've ever used. Great purchase. I was shocked how good it was.

I bought the scribing pens based on one of you previous videos. I uses it for a center punch for starting drill holes and roughing up wood and making nail holes in pallets for dioramas. Great tool that I find myself using for a sorts of things.

There are so many brands out there but I chose the Dspiae push broach type they are not too expensive and seem to work really nice ,as far as the scribe tape if you have bad eyes like me and the clear tape is hard for you to use then the Dspiae tape is black in color and helps better ,I just figured this info might help someone too ! Another great video man keep up the great work !

Appreciate the run down of tools! I have some of the one you demoed here and learned a bit more how to use the Madworks triangle scraper.
As a bit of constructive criticism that I hope will help people, when scribing, pressure should be minimal. It's better to make a lot of light passes than to make a couple of heavy passes.

The back end of Immature uncle scribers are also part separators. The green Madworks chisel is meant for beginners.
That mechanical pencil needle tool reminds me of an idea that I came up with with my pin vice and a sewing needle. I’ve used it with a stencil on clear plastic to create custom mono eyes and scope lenses for Zakus and weapons.

What an amazing video! I’ve been using dental picks to scribe my panel lines since dental tools are super cheap in my area at local swamp meets. I might just have to save up for those Tamiya scribes. Or maybe the mr hobby ones to save a buck haha

I use pencil grips on my skinny tools. I find I get better control and longer use from them if they aren't actively hurting my hands to hold them.
Hey, just a quick pop in on the madworks side scriber, they sell a scribing "hook" that's meant to be used with that, and it makes using the tool way easier and cleaner, but great video as always, happy Thanksgiving

BMC makes fantastic tool, it's a shame they were discontinue and are extremely expensive and hard to find now. I'm surprise you were able to get that tool off of ebay, every ebay seller who I've tried to get BMC products through would email a few days after placing my order and try to sell me a different product.
I use light pressure when using the BMC panel line remover.
I really like those Tamiya scribes. Doesn't require much pressure. You can really control how deep to go with each pass.
Those are the best scribers I've ever used
I guess it's time I finally give scribing a try. So many brands though. Can't decide which ones to go with.
I appreciate that you are willing to spend your money to show us this vast array of tools out there but I come away wondering if it might be of more benefit to you as well as all of us to take some time with each tool to get to know their performance characteristics better.
Also being that most of these tools are originated in Japan where finesse is placed in high regard, actually letting the tool do the work is a common philosophy. A lighter hand might reveal the performance the creators of the tool were aiming for.

In case anyone was wondering you don't need a special tool to change the blades for the Mr. Hobby scriber its friction fit. Just use a pair of pliers to prevent cutting yourself and you're good to go.
Line Tool B13 - panel lines 0mm ~ 0.15mm Workable.
Line Tool B25 - panel lines 0.15mm ~ 0.3mm Workable.

The Madworks Chamfer Bit works super well for turning seam lines into panel lines as well :-) Throw it up against the immature uncle sometime!! Can't find them here in Canada :-/

The 1mm i get like 3 and i take em to my dremel and grind em down to size i desire sense the small ones are more expensive love you're videos
What do you think about DIY solutions for scribing? Converted hobby knife blades to make a 0.4mm chisel. Or the small flathead screwdrivers?
Do you know a WIG welder? Maybe he has some tungsten welding tips to make chisels and scribers from.

I think those are the same size circle PE detail parts one can glue on after the circle is made.
Have you heard of riffler files? I am looking at trying a set for panel scribe shaping, holes, and difficult to get at areas.

You were using too much pressure on the BMC. It’s a great tool. Also, you only do one side. Great video.
It is an extremely well thougt video, as there is so many scribers and tools it can confuse allot of people, i was a bit worried tho with how much pressure you put on them, even sideways where their strength isnt great. (its like the modellers samurai sword, extremely strong in cutting direction but weak in others)
But i guess a good test is a hard test:) But the results will come a long way with right pressure/ combined with pre-lines. Let the tools do the work here, its very important
I think scribing with minimal pressure is important.

The Tamiya scribers are much cheaper if you buy them from Japan. I bought mine from Plaza Japan. You pay shipping, but if you are buying a bunch of stuff the average isn't bad, still works out cheaper.
You are correct. I've bought some kits from them and the price works out much cheaper than here of ebay

Not yet, I don't have a set up yet that works well for builds. Upgrading camera and editing software soon for expansion

You make such simple and straight-to-the-point videos, with just hands in front of a camera and pretty much unedited so that we see you actually unboxing and using the products. No special effects, no fluff, and your jump shots are just you going between desks. I love watching your videos and have gotten some great tool ideas from you!! (Example: using the glass ink calligraphy pen for panel liner!)
Question: you mention that you really only need a few sizes of the chisels. What sizes would you recommend for Gunpla? All I'd like to do is deepen some of the panel lines already on the kits. Sometimes, the existing ones are too shallow, so panel liner just wipes/rubs off too easily.
I would go with a 0.15mm, a 0.3mm and a 0.5mm. Plus I'd grab one of those scribing pens from Amazon and that should be all you need

Nice video showing a variety of options. I have the Tamiya scribers you start you review with. The first time I used it the tip broke right off. I guess you can't push very hard, although I didn't think I was. Oh well, lesson learned. Thanks for the info.

So can the Madhouse Triangular Scraper pretty much do the same thing as the Immature Uncle Panel Liner? Because it looks like it probably could.
I thought the same thing. But it doesn't work like the Immature Uncle. It's too pointy and because of that it cuts too deep going right through the piece.

Happy Thanksgiving! Great video. As a car guy, I use the Tamiya engraving tool with the 0.2mm blade. For panel lines I found the 0.1 seemed to snag on the plastic a bit which could lead to jumping and scarring the body, and the 0.3 was a little wide. the 0.2 bit runs through panel lines very smooth and still nice and clean. It has definitely been worth the steep price. It is a little narrow compared to some scribers, but it fits in the hand just like a pencil and as long as you keep the pressure light, feels like you are drawing the line in. I do want to try one of the point style scribers to see how they feel compared to the Tamiya / Mr hobby hook style. Happy thanksgiving!

I like your videos but for scribbing, you are going in way to strong to start. You should be gentle at first to establish the line

The reason it’s getting so squirrley on you, on your first pass, without tape, is you are using 95% more force, then you should be, on your first couple passes. There should be almost no pressure applied. Imagine trying to run a toothpick, on someone’s arm while they are sleeping, without waking them up lol. The goal, is to let that tip, introduce a very fine score line. Slow and light enough, and steady, you can create beautiful panel lines, with zero tape, although it takes an immense amount of practice. Think 10k hours rule. Repeat, just as slow and light, and then with additional passes, the scored line, acts as your guide, to keep the chisel on course. I’m not shitting on you, but just offering some constructive criticism, for your own experience and progression, and anyone else, who may read this. Those tips are so sharp, relative to their job, and the surface is ultra smooth. It is impossible, to not veer off course, without that scribing tape, acting as a guide to lock the chisel in, to the edge, if force is applied on the first couple passes. For anyone reading, and interested, do your research. Some are strictly designed for push, and some are designed to pull ( much more intuitive imo ). There is also many varieties of shapes ( U, V, square, tapered, etc ). I have a huge assortment of chisels and scribing tools, and some look really beefy and too big, but they are tapered, so they are capable of making extremely fine panel lines, but the further you scribe in, the deeper and wider it will get. Some chisels are one size, and no matter how many passes you make, it will only get deeper and deeper, but remain the same width. Based on how long this got, it’s fair to say I have an affinity/obsession, towards scribing lol 😬 Thanks for all the work you put into these videos. 🙏
Im thinking of buying the immature uncle line tool and some the amazon scribing pens from the video. Do you think those will be good for a beginner in scribing?
No. The madworks is to put straight panel lines into the piece and it makes it follow the contour of the piece. It’s not meant to be super close to the edge. Like how you used it. Your not showing these pieces correctly. I like that you do these videos now. But you really should know how to use the tools before showing them. You could be turning off people from buying real good tools that you don’t know how they work.
