I just got my Arcade Stick. I was blown away with how my gameplay approved in my favorite games. I did play these 4 also, and I had a little trouble keeping myself level on Zaxxon as any movement sideways I would accidentally go up or down. I still got pretty far in the game and it is just me having to learn how the game reacts with micro switches instead of contact pads. One advice he gave was that you should let the stick center quickly. I learned that real quick on Pepper II, I would move ,center, move, center, move instead of trying to immediately move in the next direction. That kept me from accidentally going in the wrong direction. It is a play style and something that has to be learned over time on what is the best way to control your character.
100% bet the issue was playing 4 way games with an 8 way restrictor gate installed. Best idea here is to buy 2 joysticks honestly, 1 set to 4 way and 1 to 8 way, enjoy the games the perfect way! I love this coleco joystick, it rocks
Can you make a version that has the four buttons of the Super Action controller? Being able to Play Colecovision Star Trek with this form factor would be a lot fun.
Hi There - thanks for your question - I do have designs for a 4 button base - but it is much larger. The internal board does support 4 buttons as prepared for eventually creating a larger design. Hi. I watched this last night and I have to admit it this stick looks good in terms of latency. I came to this video expecting to see the "problem" that I have with this controler. I mean this to be totally constructive, I love this controller and it has made my coleco usable again. That being said there is something a bit off about it compared to the Atari controllers I have from you. It could just be a quirk of the coleco or maybe as you point out in the video it has to do with the micro switches and needing to allow the joystick to center before making movements. For me I find that the stick is not totally reliable when playing Donkey Kong Jr in particular. I was thinking it was something like "this needs a 4 way gate instead of an 8 way", but after watching this I think it is likely the "micro switches" and I need to "let it center". Anyway, I just thought I'd give my two cents. There is something "unexpected" about how this controller feels, but to be honest with you that could be how hte original controller felt. I never had a coleco as a kid, I did have a 5200 so I'm much more familiar with how that one SHOULD feel and the stick you made for that is perfect. I need to get one of those atari max carts, does it have some homebrew with color bars or anything I can use to dial in my video when doing captures?
Yes - I do this all the time. There is a restrictor gate on the joystick - it can be turned to provide 4 or 8 way. I also can make a standard 8 way octagonal gate so you fell the diagonals snap into place - however after over 350 of these sold to date and over 1000 arcade sticks total since 2017 - this really has not been an issue for many customers - it really all depends on personal preference and playing style. Looks good to me, I got the Intellivision controllers and never had any latency or issues when playing.
