Congrats... your reviews are very helpful for newbees like myself ! Keep on posting. I would like to get a "Nano" like the Pico but with battery replacement capacity ? Any suggestions ? For now I own a La trax Alias, a Nano Qx (witch is missing some leds...snif) and that Pico Qx who should get improvements. Tks for following up !
Don Castonguay The only nanos with swappable batteries (that I know of) so far are the Proto X SLT and UDI U840 (review coming soon). Otherwise, you may need to move up to the "Ultra-Micro" class for that option. Something like the Syma X2, or U207 UFO Intruder.
I'm pretty impressed with the standard lens video over the wide-angle lens video footage. The LED bar is cool, but I can't think for the life of me why I'd get one. Great video! I just picked up a blue/black Alias last week. I'm new to quadcopters, and out of RCing entirely for far too many years. It's good to be back. :) I'm looking forward to ordering the camera. :)
Really, two screws are the turn off, isn't that part of the fun of the hobby. I have both accessories love them. Looks like I need the wide angle though, good video thanks for sharing.
shawn mcintyre I'm not sure what's "fun" about having to deal with two screws when you just want to quickly take a camera on and off of your sport quad. This quad is not really intended as a video platform, so I should be able to quickly add and remove the camera at the field, without having to carry a screw driver with me.
Hey Ryan, I just wanted to ask something from a fellow consumer. When you remove the camera, does the female end of the connector (on the camera) like to "disconnect" from the plastic on the camera and only stay connected to the plastic by the wires? I just want to make sure my camera isn't defective... Thanks and I hope to hear back!
Great review! My brother got the camera and wide lens for his Alias, which seems to provide about the same video quality as my little 1SQ-Vcam does - but it easier for it to carry than a Mobius (which provides much higher resolution, but when I tried it seemed to overdraw the motor battery after a short amount of time because of the extra weight). Also noticed the horizontal lines (like scan lines) in the captured video too. He recently shot video of my FreeX in flight, while I was shooting his Alias in flight too! To me the one critical flaw in the Alias is the use of such small brushed motors, which are over worked in the gearing design and burn out way too frequently. Everyone I know has quickly had to upgrade to the "better" motors from Micro Motor Warehouse, which do last longer but are still brushed and can suffer burn outs as well. The Alias design would be totally awesome with improved, brushless motors, but I note that none of the Latrax branded products have those (even all the ground vehicles that would be easier to put them in) - so don't guess they're really going to stretch themselves to do that with the Alias. Latrax has never admitted that the Alias motor burn outs are a problem, so probably aren't looking for a solution. Wish they would though, they'd have a much improved product! Happy New Year!
warp00009 Traxxas would be much more likely to release a brushless quad under the Traxxas name, not LaTrax, since LaTrax is their entry-level brand. Also, it's not as simple as just putting in brushless motors… it would also require brushless ESCs and likely a 2S (at least) battery. I really think we will see a brushless quad from Traxxas at some point, since I'm sure they've sold quite a few Aliases and QR-1s.
How do the "secret" light modes affect the light bar? That might be a good feature of the bar because some of the secret lighting modes make it difficult to keep track of the orientation.
hi Ryan, big fan of the videos, you're a great quadcopter pilot :)) regarding the 60FPS frame-rate, the really cool thing about high-speed footage is that you can slow it right down without the video becoming choppy. the quality of the camera outdoors was pretty good (having interchangeable lenses is really cool too, and the autoexposure worked pretty well), and i think it would be really good for outdoor action videography, especially stuff like wakeboarding, or bmx, skateboarding, or pretty much anything else that would benefit from smooth slow-motion footage. in order to fix the audio-sync issue, you should try popping in a high-speed SD card if you have one laying around. "Class 6"or above would probably do it. that little camera is pulling in a mountain of data every second (this is the equivalent 1080p @ 30FPS, which would be a neat mode to include in a firmware upgrade!), and i had similar problems with my first high-speed camera. when i first got into videography 60fps cameras were really expensive. i really like this quad's flight characteristics, and the camera makes it even more interesting to me. i have a Parrot AR Drone 2.0 that i've been too scared to fly lol, and i think this would be a nice step up from the nano i've been practicing with. i'm definitely going to consider this quad next, cheers for the review! you should try slowing down that footage in your video editing software, i bet the flips would look really cool!!
Jarryd Nielsen Thanks! And, yeah, that is true about slo-mo. I probably should have shown some slowed-down footage in this video. I can't recall what card I used, but I think I probably would've used a high class card (I have like a dozen cards, lol). But that's another good reason it would've been nice for them to include a card that they knew worked well with the camera.
when you put the wide angle lens on i could really see those weird lines..and holy crap that out of sync audio is so weird! i think the led bar lighting the ground under the quad is kinda cool but not worth the weight and extra power it will pull
I'm so sorry for saying this so late but I got the proto x and I tried pulling out a prop and it pulled out the motor and wires connected what do I do?!
Simple solder job ... the solder points are nicely exposed and easily accessible on the ProtoX. I have replaced a few motors on mine - A 4pack runs under $15.00, but my local hobby shop now sells the ProtoX for $24.99 so it may just be easier to grab another and scavenge from the damaged one.
I read several complaints about the Latrax motors burning out early. How are your motors holding up? Do they last long or burn out early like others have said?
Vincent Jones The motors are definitely prone to dying early, but I think the people that are saying they die after only a few flights are causing those failures by either crashing, or flying battery after battery without letting the motors cool.
Ryan was wondering what type of glue would be best to make repairs on a Styrofoam plane. People tell me to use guerilla glue or foam-tac,hot-glue..etc but wich one would be really best? @Flyin' Ryan RC
***** Well, it really depends on the type and size of the repair. Hot Glue is good for big fixes… like a broken fuselage on a park-flyer. But I just use Foam-Safe CA glue for my ultra-micros foamies.
Frequent Flyer RC No, the attachments are made specifically to only fit the Alias. :( And, yep, still my 2nd favorite quad after the 200 QX! :D The V636 is a very close competitor though, and for the price, it's great. :)
Hey Ryan, I recently got my alias, and I have to say I have gotten some really good shots with the camera. I think the reason your audio was off sync was because maybe you didn't use a high enough class SD? You're right, using a smaller card doesn't make sense, but a higher class does. I have a class 10 card which basically means stuff can read and write to the card faster. I also followed the jello reduction comment I saw somewhere down below, and then I run the video through some stabilization software. The video turns out pretty good.
TheBigb1973 Honestly, I have no idea what throttle trim is for. I think it's basically meant to dial in the "dead zone" at the bottom of the throttle, in case there is a bit of movement in the stick before the throttle actually kicks up. Definitely not for hands-free hover, as that would require some sort of sensor on the quad.
hey I have the yi zhan x4 and I was flying it today and everything was going great and when I landed and put the throttle down all the way the engines still go... I tried turning it on and off and new batteries and it still does the same thing... please help ;(
Arise Swift ツ Weird, no idea why that would happen… did it get wet or anything? Sounds like some sort of damage to the control board, like an electrical short or something.
Hey Ryan, Bought the camera 3 days ago and I've been having nothing but problems. From Static issues on my playback, and now I'm at the point were the camera does not want to record or take pictures. The blue light stays on, and does not respond. Would very much appreciate the help. Thank you.
Thanks Ryan thats what I been reading on the forums. One more question if its not to much. My Alias keeps falling from the sky (loses connection), and goes belly up until it plummets to the ground. My local Hobby store told me that my batteries were low in my transmitter. I put a fresh pair and it still is falling. I've tried calling traxxas, hobby store, the forums and nothing. Would really really appreciate some thoughts. Thank you! Keep the great videos!
Alex Barboza There may be something in the area that is causing interference on the 2.4ghz bandwidth. I have heard of others with similar issues, but only in very specific areas. When they tried flying in a different location, the dropouts stopped.
Riker Wilson Well, that would depend on which quad it is, etc, etc, and probably isn't something that I can tell you how to do. You will likely need to reference the manual.
Nah, it's still just brushed motors (and the stock ones are known to die easily). Even with the upgraded Micro Motor Warehouse motors, I don't think it would have the power to lift a camera and the light bar, and even if it did, you would be risking killing the motors quickly. Ultimately, if you want to be doing filming, this is not the quad for that job. This is a sport flyer, not an aerial video platform.
please do a video on the new hubsan x4 plus lineup i want to buy one but i cant find a review im happy with you usually do the most informative videos on this site lol
+Tyler Larg I will be reviewing it soon. I'm not a very big fan of it. The alt hold makes it really weird to fly. It has been slowed down a ton compared to the original X4... seems they are going after the beginner aerial video market with the new Plus lineup.
Hey Ryan, I got the Alias about 5 days ago and it's been great. Haven't had really any bad crashes since I've always been around the RC world. Anyways Iv noticed my flight time has gone down quite a bit lately. I timed a flight with my Max Amps 800 mah battery and only got 6 minutes. And I got 7 minutes with the stock battery. I wasn't flying really hard. Just average on fast mode. It's confusing when I see other people saying their getting 12 minutes. Is this just the stock motors or is something else wrong?? I ordered the 15's from micro motor warehouse to see if it helps. But I just don't know what's wrong.
Hey Ryan just did a indoor flight in room temp on the max Amps 800 mah and got a 12 min flight just sitting at about 35 or 40 percent throttle. Where I'm at, outside is about 58 degrees when I flew. I just don't understand why I'm only getting 6 minute flights outside when I'm not going 100 percent throttle the whole time. Like I said will the 15's I ordered from MMW improve flight time? Thanks
cMONAYx It's all relative, so I don't really know how to answer that. It's a good quad if you have a bit of flying experience and are looking for a camera platform. It may not be the best option for a first-time flyer though, or if you are looking to fly in high wind, or do very sporty flying.
Hey Ryan, I was looking for a bigger quad that I could fly outdoors an remembered your videos about the alias. I looked on the Internet and noticed many people having problems with the motors. I wanted to ask whether you had problems as well. The other thing that i thought about is, that the Alias is a few years old right now ans technic is changing fast. Do you think the Alias is still a good quad to buy, or do you think there are better quads for about 150€ on the market right now? The people who haven't had problems with their motors mostly loved this quad... iMuffin
iMuffin2000 The Alias is still great (my second favorite quad, next to the Blade 200 QX). As for the motors, that is a hot topic indeed, and I am of the belief that the majority of fast motor deaths are entirely due to user-error. You should let the motors cool for 10-15 after a flight, before flying again with another battery, and you should always drop the throttle before a crash. Any time the props are forced to stop while the motor is still running, that will do serious damage to the brushes inside the motor. I think crashing is the #1 cause of motor deaths, and people like to blame the motors instead of their own crashing. You will also kill the motors faster by lifting extra weight, like a camera. But as long as you take care of the motors properly, you should get many hours of flight time out of them (all brushed motors will eventually die, no matter how you treat them), and they are extremely easy to replace when the time comes.
Flyin' Ryan RC Ok :D Thank you for your answer. My things always last long and I did not really destroy anithing by now... Maybe I will buy one for Summer this year. But first I have to watch your new video :P
Jacob Bott They are the same thing. The Syncro is just marketed for sale in retail stores, whereas the Proto X is marketed for hobby stores. Not really sure why they decided to do that.
Ugh...now I see why the camera is such a cheap option. Drone is awesome for the price...camera is not. Is audio problem (sync) a ongoing problem or just the one video? I don't see much need for audio anyway, can you mute the mic?
billgiacomo721 I've read a bit about it, but I try not to get too worked up over that stuff. I fly safe anyway, so I'm not too concerned. I also think they aren't actual regulations yet, but just their interpretation of existing laws. I've heard it'll still be a couple years until they have actually gotten around to making actual regulations. You know they gotta take as long as possible, and use as much of our tax dollars as possible, before telling us how they will restrict our freedom. heh :(
at least it doesn't use foam to hold on the camera like the dromida ominus fpv, it keeps falling off... as for the lights I think it is more of a child novelty. fly around at night or whatever.
Yeah, this model is so old now, and I don't think the camera was ever very popular, and it was probably also leading to more motor deaths, so they probably discontinued it long ago. This model is better for sport flying though.... I'd suggest looking into a different quad if filming is what you want to do.
I have a flood light on my v222. I've successfully broken up a few late night cat fights with it. Just hover over top of them then hit the flood. That's about the only use I've found for it other than abducting mice. Lol😜
I am anxious to watch this video but don't have time right now. We were suggested to bring in a couple Aliases to sell to die hard Traxxas customers but I don't think they will ever sell. 1) $150 isn't a great price point because customers will ask if it comes with a camera and I say no, they move on. 2) the camera is $50 putting total price at $200 making it the same price as the much larger Ethos HD. Same goes with the Blade 180QX...seriously $189.99...
Colton B The Alias is not really meant for filming anyway, so if they are looking for a camera quad, this wouldn't be the right choice. This quad is for FLYING and enjoying the hell out of it! hahaha :)
Flying ryan, I got some questions that I would like you to anser in to separate videos. The first is: What stick settings are you using when you fly cuadcopters? And the second question is: If you would cut of one of the blade on all propellors on a quadcopter, would it still be able to fly (make a video when you try).
Ok but i thought, that it would be fun to see how a cuadcopter would perform. What I ment with "stick settings" where: What is up, down, right, left etc. on the most of your cuadcopters.
Antonio Gonzalez There are way too many options for me to give a suggestion with absolutely no info. I need to at least know your level of flying experience and what sort of features you are looking for...
like I tell everybody, check out the Dromida Ominus, or the Dromida Kodo, both are pretty entry level quads for around $75-$100 with extra batteries. The Kodo is an aerial photography platform, where as the Ominus is more of an aggressive style sport quad (with just a little weaker motors than I'd prefer but hell for the price....) both are sold in many hobby stores, and both are on Amazon. great warranties and great durability for the "beginners/novices"
Hey Ryan I think your videos are great, I have a quadcopter that I recently saw and I think it's nice, I would like it if you did a review on it, it's the JJRC H9D it has a FPV
The lines youre seeing are from vibrations effecting the tweening of the frames. If you put a small piece of foam sheet or even cardboard between the camera and the quad it will reduce that. You might need to adjust the screws too. Too tight and it shakes the camera a lot. Too loose and the camera jiggles. The audio sync is terrible. Also the longer you video the worse it gets. Someone told me that using a smaller SD card helps, but that makes no sense! The lightbar is such an odd novelty. Great vid as always!
Flyin' Ryan RC That's the usual fix, isolate the camera from the wobbly bits (or balance your props and motors) I'm not sure your connections from the camera to the board are 100% Ryan, maybe try reseating them before you start with the foam (I'd to to an automotive parts shop and get some small rubber "o" rings and put them on the screws before you screw it into the frame so the camera sits against the rubber not hard on the frame) Does seem to handle changing light well, but I'm guessing this costs more than a 808 keychain camera, which is just as good but £5, which is.....erm... some dollars ;-)
I believe when you store things on a card they are fragmented so by being smaller the the gaps in the fragmentation will be smaller making the info quicker to collect
Yes, it could, but honestly I really wouldn't suggest it. This is more of a sport quad, and it is not great for an aerial video platform. And, the motors are already known for dying quickly, so adding the weight of a camera will just kill the motors even faster.
I see. Love the fast charge times and long flight times tho. Have an x5c at the minute and looking for Xmas presents already lol Frequent flier RC mentioned the Nihui U807 instead of this. Have you ever flown one of those and compared the two ? They're way cheaper than the Alias and seem to handle in a similar way.. what do you think ?
Spideystrat The U807 is the closest to the real thing, amongst all the clones, but still doesn't quite compare to the actual Alias. It isn't quite as sporty. and doesn't have as many features. But, if the extra features don't matter to you, the U807 is definitely a good choice. The main differences are that the Alias has an Acro mode and can do multiple (3 or 5) automated flips with the push of a button.
New alias, and blade nano qx on the way :-) the alias will be blue. I wanted another green one. But got a great deal on this one. I have a green canapy and green blades still. Might not look good with blue lights :-/
TheBigb1973 The LEDs are white, and the lens bars make the color, so you could just put your green lenses on it too. :) Hope you like the Nano QX as much as I do!
Eh, Wifi cameras are crap and cause radio interference, so I assume LaTrax opted for the better quality non-WiFi camera, and not worrying about signal interference. WiFi cameras are not actually good for FPV flying, because there is too much lag, and too short range, to actually fly that way.
Flyin' Ryan RC thanks, the camera info is good to know. i was unaware of the lag as I'm new to drones as in looking to buy one still. they seemed to be marketing them as fpv so i assumed you could fly them that way. ive been in a toss up between the alias and dromida xl. do you have an opinion on the dromida vs the traxxas?
I'm not sure I'd really suggest either of them for a first-time flyer. You're going to be crashing a lot, so you'll likely end up breaking the model, or killing motors, so you might want to start out with something cheaper like the Syma X5C. And yeah, WiFi FPV is worthless. Check out some of my reviews of them... I usually try to show how much lag there is, and usually the camera quality is worse since it needs to be lower quality in order to be sent over WiFi. But, cameras and FPV are not really beginner features, so I wouldn't worry about any of that stuff until after you learn how to fly first. :)
Flyin' Ryan RC thanks for your input and suggestion. i came to you because you seem to have a great reputation on you tube as someone knowledgeable in this field. keep up the great work.
Lol 2 broken blades, a cracked plastic body, and a tail rotor that doesn't even spin now, I have to put more weight in the front so I can still use it.
I've played with the rolling spider myself and I think its such a solid quad, the thing is the price is just outrageous but if you got it 80 bucks off its original price it sounds like a solid deal !
CAM THE EPIC BAM!! That's a great price! I will be reviewing it soon... not a big fan of it, honestly. It's more of a "Tech Toy" than a quadcopter. :/ And I don't fly high because you can't predict the wind up high, and it's not safe unless you are out in a wide open space.
Flyin' Ryan RC Hi there I was thinking of upgrading from the alias to a RC logger extreme do you know anything about them?are they easy to fly like the traxxas or is it not worth it to even up grade? Thanks
shenlonco I haven't flown the Xtreme myself. I have heard good and bad things about it. It should be similar to flying the Alias, but with more power, and less durability.
+Flyin' Ryan RC that's not good? I was thinking of getting a rtf quad that has the LCD on the radio nothing to expensive but something that works and records HD video good... any recommendations?
shenlonco I don't really know if it's good or not, but I know it won't take crashes like the Alias can. As for "LCD on the radio"... you mean an FPV quad? I really like how the V686G flies, and it uses 5.8ghz for the FPV, but the screen is so dim that you can't see it most of the time out in the sunlight. There aren't many RTF FPV quads that film in HD on the market yet, so there's not much to choose from.
Hi Ryan I put a video up of my alias with the new traxxas cam...looks like I may have a problem...please take a look at my video if you can maybe you can help me out.THANKS
+shenlonco I watched, and read the comments. Yeah... I think it's just a crappy camera. :( I think the lines and the purple have something to do with light reflecting off the props and into the lens. It's just a bad product from Traxxas, and really disappointing. :(
Flyin' Ryan RC called traxxas they must have loads of complaints they told me it was my SD card and try another one smaller GB works better and I told them I tried that and they say format in fat32... also they said any little problem the quad has motors bent props anything causing vibration or voltage fluctuation can make the cam do this? I asked is there a way to hook another cam to it and they said they never heard of anyone doing so... so I guess I wasted $50.00! One thing I learned about traxxas even if there product has a fault they never say it does they always put the blame on something else!
shenlonco Yeah, definitely... they will not admit to releasing a bad product. Well, I'm sure customer support is very specifically trained to never admit blame. The camera is purely a bad product, no other way to put it. The things they told you can cause problems, sure, but not the problems you are seeing. What you are seeing are simply due to being a crappy camera. :/
+Flyin' Ryan RC yea I may stick my Polaroid cube on it! you know anything about the new alloys q212 and q222 5.8g quads was thinking of maybe trying one?
the battery doesn't last long enough as it is why would you want the light bar ,its a waste of money, the motors only last approx. 15 run time hours before replacing them . forget this thing buy the traxxas aton and have a blast
umm ryan, you shared some vids on facebook but they havent came up in your uploads section on your channel, all my other subs update so idk whats up Jw
HarryDigsHoles I just got that today… haven't even flown it yet. ;) That was just a pic I posted… no video. :) I post pics of new products when I receive them, but then I need to do several test flights before I can even think of filming the review. That review will likely be several weeks off still.
Bradley Zoshak Check out the Dromida Ominus and Nihui U807. Those are probably the main two competitors, though I still prefer the Alias over either of them.
billgiacomo721 AMA rules are just guidelines, and I'm not even a member. I fly 100% safely. And there is no way they will "shut down" RC flying. They may highly regulate it though.
Wow! 20K subscribers. Your reviews are appreciated by many.
edthecarpenter Thanks! :) I'm pretty amazed at how much, and fast, my channel has grown. :)

Nice one, the LEDs do look pretty cool
OllieTheCat2012 Yeah, just can't figure out what their point is though. lol
I think its a novelty idea, so if you want a cool set of torches on your quad, you can!
I was wondering the same thing about that huge ol' LED bar... Recon? WTH?
I'm pretty impressed with the standard lens video over the wide-angle lens video footage.
The LED bar is cool, but I can't think for the life of me why I'd get one.
Great video! I just picked up a blue/black Alias last week. I'm new to quadcopters, and out of RCing entirely for far too many years. It's good to be back. :)
I'm looking forward to ordering the camera. :)
If your flight times are getting too long, you can add the LED bar to make them shorter.
:)~
You got some good flying skills
Rigo Alvarez Thanks! :D
Really, two screws are the turn off, isn't that part of the fun of the hobby. I have both accessories love them. Looks like I need the wide angle though, good video thanks for sharing.

Term1nat0rjohn Ah, yes, mine does that too! I figured I just didn't put it back together properly when putting on the wide-angle lens.
Hi Ryan, I was wondering what mini quad I should get. I have never flown a quad but I have a Cheerson cx-10 being delivered. Any tips?
Great review! My brother got the camera and wide lens for his Alias, which seems to provide about the same video quality as my little 1SQ-Vcam does - but it easier for it to carry than a Mobius (which provides much higher resolution, but when I tried it seemed to overdraw the motor battery after a short amount of time because of the extra weight). How do the "secret" light modes affect the light bar? That might be a good feature of the bar because some of the secret lighting modes make it difficult to keep track of the orientation.
Not sure I know what you mean about secret light modes.
Hi +Flyin' Ryan RC I was wondering what mini quad I should get. I have never flown a quad but I have a Cheerson cx-10 being delivered. Any tips?
I don't understand why I want or need that LED Bar but it looks pretty neat, I did totally laugh out loud with reconnaissance comment tho haha.
***** My thoughts exactly. Glad you enjoyed my commentary. :)
hi Ryan, big fan of the videos, you're a great quadcopter pilot :))
regarding the 60FPS frame-rate, the really cool thing about high-speed footage is that you can slow it right down without the video becoming choppy. the quality of the camera outdoors was pretty good (having interchangeable lenses is really cool too, and the autoexposure worked pretty well), and i think it would be really good for outdoor action videography, especially stuff like wakeboarding, or bmx, skateboarding, or pretty much anything else that would benefit from smooth slow-motion footage.
in order to fix the audio-sync issue, you should try popping in a high-speed SD card if you have one laying around.
I can't recall what card I used, but I think I probably would've used a high class card (I have like a dozen cards, lol). when you put the wide angle lens on i could really see those weird lines..and holy crap that out of sync audio is so weird! i think the led bar lighting the ground under the quad is kinda cool but not worth the weight and extra power it will pull
Wow lines and flickering how did latrax approve this quality?!
The screen tearing is in place for the 60 frame jump. If it was a 30 frame camera, it would have no screen tearing, I bet.
I'm so sorry for saying this so late but I got the proto x and I tried pulling out a prop and it pulled out the motor and wires connected what do I do?!
Jrod_84831 Buy a new one? heh You'd basically have to solder the wires back on, etc... that's not really the kind of repair I'm familiar with.
It would be cool if possible to mount the light bar under the camera to flip it on during said reconnaissance missions lol
CitizenSoldier Hahaha! :D
Led bar for camera lighting in low ambient light conditions ???
Really nice review , thank you !
+Chris Wilborn Glad you liked it. :)
Great video! Does the attachments fit and work for the v636? Also over the Dromida and v636 is the Alias still your favorite behind the 200Qx? :P
Frequent Flyer RC No, the attachments are made specifically to only fit the Alias. :( And, yep, still my 2nd favorite quad after the 200 QX! :D The V636 is a very close competitor though, and for the price, it's great. :)
I gotta get one
How do I program the transmiter so I can do flips while recording but I still want to take pictures/videos, I dont know how to use the transmiter
+Jerry Schnies That sort of thing is covered in the manual.
You mentioned "night video"? I didn't see any.
Can you turn the light bar around?
I don't think the camera was all that bad but I also don't understand the need for the light bar.
Dubbin1 Yeah, my thoughts as well. My main issue with the camera is having to screw it on. :/
Hey ryan. On certain quads why it there trim on the throttle? Is it to set a hands free hover?
TheBigb1973 Honestly, I have no idea what throttle trim is for. I think it's basically meant to dial in the "dead zone" at the bottom of the throttle, in case there is a bit of movement in the stick before the throttle actually kicks up. Definitely not for hands-free hover, as that would require some sort of sensor on the quad.
I can’t find a Camera for my Alias and your link doesn’t work .
Yeah, it was likely discontinued years ago.
hey I have the yi zhan x4 and I was flying it today and everything was going great and when I landed and put the throttle down all the way the engines still go... I tried turning it on and off and new batteries and it still does the same thing... please help ;(
Arise Swift ツ Weird, no idea why that would happen… did it get wet or anything? Sounds like some sort of damage to the control board, like an electrical short or something.
Flyin' Ryan RC I haven't flown it outside :/ taking it to the hobby shop to try to get it repaired. Thanks for replying!
I lost my alias last week. Flew it at night. Pretty windy. Lost orientation. No clue where it went :(
TheBigb1973 Oh no! :( Sorry to hear that!
Hey Ryan,
Bought the camera 3 days ago and I've been having nothing but problems. From Static issues on my playback, and now I'm at the point were the camera does not want to record or take pictures. The blue light stays on, and does not respond. Would very much appreciate the help. Thank you.
Alex Barboza You might try reformatting the memory card. Otherwise, I don't really know what to suggest.
Good vid Ryan
Rc Tom Thanks! :)
the light bar is for quad raceing I think
What should I do when my quads' front right rotor is spinning slower than the others? It keeps on drifting to the right... Help?
Riker Wilson Sounds like you probably need to replace that motor.
ok, but how?
Riker Wilson Well, that would depend on which quad it is, etc, etc, and probably isn't something that I can tell you how to do. You will likely need to reference the manual.
I've seen mods to add a third party camera to the Alias. The light bar might be useful for night video with a third party camera.
Possibly, though that would be quite a bit of weight to carry with a quad like this.
Apparently the Alias is very powerful for its size. I've also seen upgraded batteries and motors for it.
Yes. I guess the light bar is really just intended to work as headlights so that you can see anything you might bump into at night.
please do a video on the new hubsan x4 plus lineup i want to buy one but i cant find a review im happy with you usually do the most informative videos on this site lol
+Tyler Larg I will be reviewing it soon. I'm not a very big fan of it. The alt hold makes it really weird to fly. It has been slowed down a ton compared to the original X4... seems they are going after the beginner aerial video market with the new Plus lineup.
Hey Ryan,
I got the Alias about 5 days ago and it's been great.
Thanks
Do they make a fpv camera or can you real time with this one
This is not FPV, and as far as I know, they don't make an FPV camera for this.
What quadcopter has the better stock transmitter(range) between the HT FT803 and Syma X11C?
Klazoyd Productions I don't do range testing… I only fly close to myself.
Flyin' Ryan RC thanks anyways
I just bought the Syma X5C but haven't received it yet. Is it a good quad or should I cancel it and get another one?
cMONAYx It's all relative, so I don't really know how to answer that. It's a good quad if you have a bit of flying experience and are looking for a camera platform. It may not be the best option for a first-time flyer though, or if you are looking to fly in high wind, or do very sporty flying.
Thx
Hey Ryan,
I was looking for a bigger quad that I could fly outdoors an remembered your videos about the alias.
I ordered a estes proto x syncro today, can anybody tell me the difference between the syncro and regular?
Jacob Bott They are the same thing. The Syncro is just marketed for sale in retail stores, whereas the Proto X is marketed for hobby stores. Not really sure why they decided to do that.
Ugh...now I see why the camera is such a cheap option. Drone is awesome for the price...camera is not.
Is audio problem (sync) a ongoing problem or just the one video? I don't see much need for audio anyway, can you mute the mic?
Yeah, the audio is pretty much a non-issue.
too bad you can't use the camera and light together
have you read the new faa regulations on height and distanc for drones?
billgiacomo721 I've read a bit about it, but I try not to get too worked up over that stuff. I fly safe anyway, so I'm not too concerned. I also think they aren't actual regulations yet, but just their interpretation of existing laws. I've heard it'll still be a couple years until they have actually gotten around to making actual regulations. You know they gotta take as long as possible, and use as much of our tax dollars as possible, before telling us how they will restrict our freedom. heh :(
Can you do a review on a eachine cg032 quadcopter plz?
JONES JENSON Yep :)
at least it doesn't use foam to hold on the camera like the dromida ominus fpv, it keeps falling off... as for the lights I think it is more of a child novelty. fly around at night or whatever.
When you bought the camera was there another bracket you had to buy?
Nope
Flyin' Ryan RC Having trouble finding one.I found the wide angle lens but not the one with the camera case
Lol😜
TimmyV LOL nice. :)
I heard peepers at night.. When did you film this? Feels like late summer.. not Dec.
BWX It was early November.
Ahhh, the good 'ole days..
BWX Haha. :)
Aha,thank you for your sharing! You did a great review. :)
RunCam FPV Thanks! :)
Try sell them the v636
DA_ASIAN_AUSTRALIAN! HobbyTownUSA doesn't sell WLtoys
That is a pain. Do they sell hisky?
Colton B The Alias is not really meant for filming anyway, so if they are looking for a camera quad, this wouldn't be the right choice. This quad is for FLYING and enjoying the hell out of it! hahaha :)
Flying ryan, I got some questions that I would like you to anser in to separate videos. The first is: What stick settings are you using when you fly cuadcopters? And the second question is: If you would cut of one of the blade on all propellors on a quadcopter, would it still be able to fly (make a video when you try).
Anders Andrea There are no "stick settings" for most of what I review. And, no, if you cut a blade off of a quad it would not fly properly at all.
Ok but i thought, that it would be fun to see how a cuadcopter would perform. What I ment with "stick settings" where: What is up, down, right, left etc. on the most of your cuadcopters.
Anders Andrea They are all exactly the same. 4ch control in Mode 2 uses the same controls for everything.
Is anyone having a lose of control with the camera installed?it all works fine without it. With it it flys away bye it self
Morse Code, Welcome Wagon signals or Police Search and Rescue operations.....?
Drones Over Louisville Hehe :)
Those LEDs makes it look like a search spot light lmbo😂. Sad to say I live in the city and when there's a crime cops use this on the heli's.
what do u think is the drone i should get i'm on a about a $120 budget
Mark todman Yep, I will be... mine just shipped out earlier this week. :)
How do I put the footage on cumputer
Put the memory card in a card reader and download the files to your computer.
Witch car type is the dark gray one
Ferdinand Larsen That's my 2003 Infiniti G35.
like in the house just as a spot light or something
The lines youre seeing are from vibrations effecting the tweening of the frames. If you put a small piece of foam sheet or even cardboard between the camera and the quad it will reduce that. You might need to adjust the screws too. Too tight and it shakes the camera a lot. Too loose and the camera jiggles.
The audio sync is terrible. Also the longer you video the worse it gets. Someone told me that using a smaller SD card helps, but that makes no sense!
The lightbar is such an odd novelty.
Great vid as always!
***** Good observations. :) Glad you liked the vid! :D
Flyin' Ryan RC That's the usual fix, isolate the camera from the wobbly bits (or balance your props and motors)
I'm not sure your connections from the camera to the board are 100% Ryan, maybe try reseating them before you start with the foam (I'd to to an automotive parts shop and get some small rubber "o" rings and put them on the screws before you screw it into the frame so the camera sits against the rubber not hard on the frame)
Does seem to handle changing light well, but I'm guessing this costs more than a 808 keychain camera, which is just as good but £5, which is.....erm... some dollars ;-)
I believe when you store things on a card they are fragmented so by being smaller the the gaps in the fragmentation will be smaller making the info quicker to collect
Nice vid!
+Kyle Showalter Thanks! :)
Did you stop making vids?
Will a GoPro session work on it
+LoganLott17 No, that's too heavy.
If it was blue and faced towards the back it could be like the Millennium Falcon.
Lol
***** Amazing. That would actually give this thing purpose! Well, not really "purpose", but cool points anyway. :D
Hi Ryan, would it be able to lift an 808 key chain camera ?
Spideystrat I have a review of the U807 too, if you want to check that out.
sure will ;) thanks!
Ryan, you should check out our alternate channel WPA Drones. We reviewed the Pico and the Scorpion so far, more coming
oakleafwiffleleague Cool, I'll check it out when I get the chance! :)
No that flew away with it last week lol
TheBigb1973 Oh, haha, well would be an easy part to buy later, if you decide you really want to go back to green. :)
yes indeed. this hobby makes me go broke
lol
im suprised the camera was not able to connect to phone via an app so you could fly it in fpv mode like some other quads.
The screws better because if you hit something camera or light bar will stay on
What type of car do you have?
Gabriel Drigout Infiniti G35. :)
Picked up a protocol accelerator and I gotta say its pretty fragile, and outdoor only
DCDC2012 Yeah, large coaxial helis like that are just a lot of trouble, in my experience.
Lol 2 broken blades, a cracked plastic body, and a tail rotor that doesn't even spin now, I have to put more weight in the front so I can still use it.
Hey Ryan i just bought the parrot rolling spider for about 80 dollars off the retail price
And are u ever afraid to fly your quad to high? I am because I'm always worried that my 50$ investment will break. Lol
:/ And I don't fly high because you can't predict the wind up high, and it's not safe unless you are out in a wide open space.
and does it come with a camera ?
No, it doesn't come with the camera, but there is the official optional camera, which is what I reviewed in this video.
thanks a lot
Quality looked good on this side. Nice flips and spins...I threw up a bit and I was blind for a few minuets..kidding..decent for the price.
the led light is for night racing
How is that any better for night racing than the standard LEDs in the arms?
man you must have got green dots in your site after flying with that light bar!
shenlonco LOL :)
Hubsan h107 d accessoires please
Les frères d'arme What accessories are there for the H107D?
+Flyin' Ryan RC yea I may stick my Polaroid cube on it! you know anything about the new alloys q212 and q222 5.8g quads was thinking of maybe trying one?
shenlonco I don't know anything specific about them, but I have heard of them. I will be trying to get my hands on them to review. :)
Channel is awesom-o
Crustyto3z Thanks! :)
the battery doesn't last long enough as it is why would you want the light bar ,its a waste of money, the motors only last approx. 15 run time hours before replacing them . forget this thing buy the traxxas aton and have a blast
Do the nano qx fpv
Hunter Smith I reply to all my comments... no need to cross-post. ;)
Awsome i loke that ucan get dfferent thimgs
Can you do more helicopter reviews?
Brian Tang Yes
LED Bar Perfect to scare the neighbors with maybe:-) Aliens are attacking ..
wow I had the same thought! I can just imagine it dropping from up high and throttle back up it would be a sight to see!
umm ryan, you shared some vids on facebook but they havent came up in your uploads section on your channel, all my other subs update so idk whats up Jw
HarryDigsHoles The boat teasers? I only put those on Facebook.
Flyin' Ryan RC no there was a helicopter review and 1 other thing
HarryDigsHoles I need specifics then. They should definitely be in my uploads section.
it was the Heli Max 200 FP V-Cam review
and ts just not there
all my other youtube subs upload box's are ok
can u send me a link?
HarryDigsHoles I just got that today… haven't even flown it yet. ;) That was just a pic I posted… no video. :) I post pics of new products when I receive them, but then I need to do several test flights before I can even think of filming the review. That review will likely be several weeks off still.
8 more subscribers till you get 20,000 subscribers!
Brian Tang Awesome, thanks for the heads up! :)
Nice video! Not impressed with that accessory.
TOJO RC Thanks! :)
Nah in Texas but it looks similar.
I'd much rather be there. lol
+Flyin' Ryan RC Sorry for replying so late but I am looking into an alias. Is there anything comparable to it for below or around the price range?
Bradley Zoshak Check out the Dromida Ominus and Nihui U807. Those are probably the main two competitors, though I still prefer the Alias over either of them.
It looks like you live near me I swear it looks so familiar. Lol
Central Illinois?
Ok
you might read the ama rules also, i am not saying you are not safe but every one has to obay ther rules or they will shut down rc flying
billgiacomo721 AMA rules are just guidelines, and I'm not even a member. I fly 100% safely. And there is no way they will "shut down" RC flying. They may highly regulate it though.
With all the flooding idk lol
Sorry about that... it's probably due to all our rain draining down into your state. lol
That camera is $50 WTF
