Ohne dich is the tenth song on the album Reise, Reise by Rammstein. An early version of this song was already recorded during the recording sessions for the Mutter album, but was not included because the band felt there was no room for another ballad. This first version was released on the single Ohne dich under the name Ohne dich (Beta Version). Depending on the single edition, the credit varies between 2000 and 2004 for the recording date, which left it confusing, until proven evidence by a tape of the Mutter sessions was found in 2021. German artist Mambo Kurt covered it. of the song in 2007 and released it on his album Spiel Heimorgel Spiel. Laibach, who remixed the song, was asked about the remix in an interview:
Periódico Neto: The group Rammstein, whose song “Ohne Dich” Laibach just remixed and which Laibach considers his role model, is repeatedly accused of using a fascist aesthetic. For example, when they used excerpts from the film “Olympia - Festival of the Nations” by Leni Riefenstahl in their video for “Stripped”.
Novak: We don't have any problem with that. Riefenstahl did not limit himself to using German aesthetics. Nazi aesthetics and fascist aesthetics existed all over the world. It is a historical fact that is expressed differently in different places. It belongs to humanity. That's why you shouldn't ignore it. This element is valid to understand European history. It is also talked about in films like “Schindler's List” and “The Fall.” I don't understand why movies like this can do it, but Rammstein can't. Why should pop culture subscribe to narrow and stupid topics? Pop recipients aren't stupid after all.
PN: Did you know Rammstein before they asked you to do the remix?
N: We never met Rammstein. But the band has been a topic everywhere in recent years, and whoever you asked about it. There are obviously some similarities with Laibach. War.
PN: How did you react to the request?
N: At first we thought we didn't have time. So we saw it as a challenge. We heard the original and thought we could do something good with it.
    PN: Does Laibach like Rammstein?
N: That doesn't necessarily mean we like them. We respect what they do.
PN: Why is the remix called “Mina Harker's Version”? Does the piece have anything to do with Dracula?
N: It's the song. It's a love song. “I cannot exist without you, you cannot exist without me” - this reminded us of Mina Harker's letters to her fiancé Jonathan and Dracula's letters to Mina. This love triangle. Also, the singer's name is Mina...
PN: Why did you choose a female voice?
N: After listening to Rammstein's song, we thought it would be cool with a female singer. Since it's a love song, we mix men and women. Originally we also left the voice of the Rammstein singer. We found the three-way relationship exciting. But they asked us to take them out.
PN: They also changed the pronouns: I, you, I, you...
N: There are even people who relate this to the relationship between Laibach and Rammstein... [laughs] Rammstein cannot exist without Laibach and Laibach cannot exist without Rammstein...
    PN: And?
N: These are the specifications. [laughs] Normally, when we are asked about Rammstein we say that Rammstein Laibach is for children and Laibach is Rammstein for adults.
PN: Was the remix worth it financially? Has Laibach hit the pop track yet?
N: Laibach was pop from the beginning. Everything that is mass produced is part of pop culture. So do books, movies and... toilet paper. You use it and throw it away.
PN: Does Laibach play the Rammstein remix at concerts?
N: We played it several times, but it doesn't fit into our program.
    AUDIO OFICIAL.
Rammstein: Till Lindemann (lead vocalist), Richard Kruspe (lead guitarist), Paul Landers (rhythm guitarist), Oliver Riedel (bassist), Christoph "Doom" Schneider (drummer) and Christian "Flake" Lorenz (keyboardist)
