LG Top Load Washer WT5270CW Leaking - FIX

- My washer had water leaking from the bottom somewhere. It only did it on the bulky bedding setting at first and a few washes later it began doing it all the time.
I took the back off and found it was running down an area where a clear hose was located, at a sort of overflow looking plastic area (if your behind the washer it was on the right side, just below the top of the tub) and a little plastic area with slots in it - again on the top right side of the tub, if you're looking at it from behind the washer with the back off of it.
After some researching I found and easy fix.
Maybe it will help you out as well. If so, give me a thumbs up or comment please.
***UPDATE: Someone in the comments stated this fix made their washer catch fire. The only way I think this could happen is if the disconnected wire touched other wires. Please put black electrical tape over the end of the disconnected plug, to prevent the chance of this happening. Развлечения
Holy crap, thanks SO MUCH for posting this. This fixed the leak for me as well. Would have a small puddle of water under the washer during the wash cycle. Unplugged the bleach pump, taped up the connector, and no more leaks.
Awesome! You're quite welcome! So glad it fixed your issue as well.
Excellent fast video in solving a leak from my LG for the last 5 years. I had a LG certified tech worked on it which only last 1 month before it leaked again. Funny - tech pretty much replaced everything in the washer including the drum but it still leaked. This probably took me less than 5 to solve the leak problem. Thanks.
So glad it helped! Thanks for commenting and letting me know.
Hi, thanks! That thing you unplugged is a solenoid and not a pump. It opens when electricity is applied to it and the bleach starts. It uses the water pressure to work. I haven’t had the leak on this LG but I had it on my older one. You only need to put some electrical tape around the blue electrical plug and not the solenoid because when it’s unplugged the coil doesn’t have any power on it because you have unplugged it. Nice job!
I don't think we put tape on anything. 🤔 Sorry for not knowing the correct names and thanks so much for your clarification.
Same issue, your video was perfect! Thank you!
i too tried to unclog the bleach dispenser, only to continue to have a leak. This fixed my problem (I don't use the bleach dispenser anyway). Thank-you!
Going to give it a try checked hoses and everything if this works will be wrapped.
Worked!!!!!! Thanks
I think I may have an issue similar to this. One of the screws that holds the bleach dispenser under the top rim broke. I temporarily zip tied it to keep it from banging during a load but now I’m getting some water leakage from under the washer when it starts agitating. I’m going to take off the back and see if this is what happened with mine - coupled with the screw breaking that holds the little cup up. I’ll give it a try!
Hope it works for you!
Similar model and that worked!
Great video! Thanks for doing the research and taking the time to share!
You're quite welcome!
How did you initially get the top off? I got the front loose but there seems to be two screws on the side that are very hard to reach let alone get a screw driver in there.
If it's this same model it should only be the 5 screws on the back as shown at 33 sec mark of the video. If it's a diff model, try searching various videos using your model #, I'm sure someone will show how to disassemble it. Good luck.
Did you need to remove those 5 screws to just get the control panel off or to lift off the entire top of the machine, lid and all? I'm trying to lift the top off to get the drum out.
@@sarahweis3222 I did not take the top off for this fix, those bolts in the back only took off the back panel.
Sadly I dont get it. You unplug it in the video and then .. reconnect it? Where do you apply the tape that so many people are talking about in the comments?
Just u plug it, don't reconnect it, that's it! I didn't see comments about tape, but if you wanted to put electrical tape around the blue plug or tape it up off to the side, you could do that if you'd like.
Hello,
After doing this and it hopefully works on mine, when I start using it, will I keep adding clorox to the dispenser or another way you use it?
Thanks!
I do not use the bleach dispenser prior to disconnecting it. I believe that disconnecting that wire makes it useless. I assume that it dispensed it at a certain time during the wash cycle. When I do use bleach I dilute it with water in an empty detergent bottle that I saved just for that purpose and pour it in prior to adding my clothes.
Hope the fix works for you.
I have a leak. The tube as a vent at the very top in the back on the right side. When doing a load water drips out of that tube rear tub vent. It that a over flow vent ?
Strange that I did not have this leak until a contractor service tech replaced my bad control board.... now it leaks from there. I am thinking of buying a rubber plug and shove it in there !?!?!
Did you ever figure this out? I have the same exact problem
So you are not able to use the bleach dispenser any more???
Correct
I have this same washer and I''m trying to wash dark clothes in cold wash but the water is hot, not cold. Please help
Is your hot water incoming hose connected to the cold side? Try a load on hot and see if it's cold.
@@PAphotoFun Thanks for reply I just found out the hose for hot water was inserted in the cold side and hose for cold water was inserted to hot. We put both hose in their right places so I hope
that fixes the issue. Thanks
WARNING !!!! I did what this video suggested and within a week my washer caught fire and burned up. thankful I was able to get it out of the house in time. the fire started in the control area right where the video suggest you unplug. please be careful if you try this
You must have had wires touching from when you unplugged it. I don't think simply unplugging it was the caused of a fire.
You're just a dumbass bitch liar 😂
Europe Country v
Im an electrician and by unplugging that solenoid its impossible that started the fire. The solenoid is run of 12 volts as well lol.
He was able to get it out of the house when it was in flames 🔥??? 🤔
