Do you find the 1 TB version more than big enough ? It is a toss up between the 1 TB and 2 TB for me . They are a pricey up here in Canada Through Best Buy
@@BenDover-069 - I'm playing more moderately sized games like Sniper Elite 5 and quite a few older games with lower file sizes so it's plenty. When I upgrade my laptop and start playing newer large games may get a 2 TB. Love the speed of this SSD, great for the relatively low cost.
I agree with Vance. It really depends on what you play. In my case I'm storing videos in there so I actually ended up selling the 2TB and buying thr 4TB. I would still say 2TB is great for future proofing, but 1TB should be enough for normaly sized games
In my experience, rubber coatings like this eventually become "gummy" and essentially "melt" over time due to fluctuations in humidity & temperature. This fact alone pushes me towards the regular T7 drive, especially since SSD's don't benefit from "rugged" exteriors nearly as much as an HDD's do.
That's true. I proffered the rubber texture as I feel I'd rather scratches on rubber than scratches on aluminum. I also bought a smaller storage normal T7 and put a removable rubber cover which might give the best of both worlds
In my experience well known brands mostly use high quality rubbers (on silicone basis) that will last a very long time. Instead of becoming gummy or sticky, the rubber may loose some of it's softness over time, especially if exposed to direct sunlight on a regular basis. I also own some gear where the rubber surface became disgustingly sticky. For these, often CHEAP, "made in China" products, the rubber has an extreme chemical smell to start with.
Finally got mine 4TB from amazon (as of June 2023 it's $220+tax). These drives are great for Raspberry Pi home servers (samba + resilio sync + webDAV). I haven't got any problems after I switched to USB SSD drives 5 years ago (after damaged USB HDD drives that running 24x7). I had 500GB, then 1TB, then 2TB, now this 4TB will (and should) last longer before I fill it up 😂😂
That's correct. I made a mistake in the video. I meant that there are some external drives that use M.2 NVMe drives that can be much faster than the T7.
Hey! I bought it 2 days ago. I am using it on my laptop(dell vostro 3590) It has USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports. I am not getting speed more than 40mbps. Can anyone help me explaining this. What should I do? I bought 1tb samsung t7 shield.
Hi, did you notice usb-c on this SSD is not firmly plugged when you use the cable comparing to other USB-c ports (computer, smartphone, etc) ? You can remove it so easily that you need to be very cautious not to move the cable while transfering data. Don't know if it is mine or if it is common on the T7 Shield. Could you plus check yours pls ?
does it work good till this day, i have been looking forward to buy it and have seen alot of of people talk about how it stopped working after 1-2 years of use, would you still recommend it?
I am going to format mine to NTFS for it to work with OneDrive and works with Windows better my main OS. Will the password protection work again after formatting?
Hey! I’m looking for a backup drive for all my photos and videos cuz my phone is full , would you recommend this for storing data for long time and btw I will be just throwing all my stuffs in here and not use it regularly , not going with the HDD cuz I’ve heard some scary story that peoples lost all their old memories, so I don’t want that to happen with this expensive drive fail with my precious memories 😭
Yeah, spinning drives (HDD) are much more fragile. If you shake them too much they can break. I would definitely recommend the T7 for your needs. I'd recommend the Shield just in case it gets any bumps and so on, just for a little more protection. The data would be safe regardless if you get the T7 or T7 Shield
You definitely need more than 1 back up, please don’t have all your memories one just 1 drive, it will fail eventually. No drive is 100% guaranteed. I’ve learnt from experience and now use SSD, NAS and the cloud for back ups
Hey I was looking for an ssd to use with my ps5 and came across this one and I was looking and only found reviews about the regular one not this one so I’m doubtful wether this would be compatible with a ps5 or not. Any idea on if it is or not?
Well I haven't tried it, but if the ps5 works with the T7 normal, the T7 shield should work with the ps5 as well. The only difference is the rubber around the drive

Hey, so if your PC sees it and your phone doesn't, then it's because you formatted the drive. If that's the case, real quick explanation, (read note at bottom before following steps) plug the drive to your PC, open file explorer, double click "This PC" on the bottom left, right click your SSD that should show up there, click "Format", in "File system" change it to exFAT, click start at the bottom. The drive should work on all devices once it's done. Note: THIS WILL DELETE EVERYTHING ON THE DRIVE. MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS BACKED UP AS IT WILL NOT BE EASY TO RECOVER. Hope it works!
@@Wolfgang790tech Okay, so I formatted it to exFAT.
