As much as I loveTop Gear I think Tiff is the best automotive reviewer, no messing around or silly bullshit, just straight to the point. His review of this M5 was miles better than Clarkson's.
could not have said it any better myself, Clarkson just kept whining on about how he couldn't operate the iDrive system and saying it was ugly. when the E60 ///M5 came out it was the greatest car ever made and it still is in my view.
haha wow, time flies. I've seen M5's for really cheap now. There's a 50,000 mile M5 selling for $26,0000 here. Granted, it's a 2006 and probably has many problems lol
+linkinparkdrift you're so right, man....there are also some of them in very good conditions and one shouldn't give up to spend a bit more from the beginning, buying one of these "toys" : it's worthwhile, I think.
I wouldnt bother...nearly everyone buys one then gets rid after 3 months because they cant afford the fuel! 12mpg anyone? Skip it and go straight to the F10 M5........
This to me is the most insane car ever built. Putting a V10 (which is mainly used in super cars) in what looks like an executive family hauler still blows my mind. Sure the F10 is faster but it will never be as unique as the E60 because of the engine. This and the Audi S6 are the only V10 cars that are just as good on the track as they are for commuting, errands, family hauling, and road trips and that what will always make this car special and hopefully worth more down the road. The thing I love most about this car is the reaction you tell a non car guy that this car has a V10.
I feel very lucky to have sold and driven the last of the best BMW's they ever made. A special car this, i remember my old dealer principle who was ex UK BMW head office. he'd bought the dealership I'd worked at and used his connections from his head office days, to somehow rob a full decat exhaust from an F1 M5 Pace car, and stuck it on our demonstrator M5 we had at the dealership! Even just off idle It sounded like Juan Pablo Montoya's F1 car at the time, that day i fell in love with the V10 configuration forever, fond memories indeed.

BMW 5.0 V10 SMG! !! I got myself a 2009 BMW M6 with 60k km (40k miles) last year and it's still awesome to look at and drive... I still wish it a good night and good morning in my garage everyday. I'm obsessed! ! 🙈
Iv'e had my E60 M5 S2 through RPI, his thing is awesome has not been trouble free but so worth every penny so far. I don't see myself with any other car yet.
I test drove a 06' M5 yesterday and it was very impressive! A lot smoother than I expected on regular city roads. The jerkiness is a little annoying. I was running 90MPH in 4th Gear at only about 4,000 RPM, so I had 4,000 more RMP before redline. A very impressive car. Looking forward to buying it in a year or so
I'd take a less powerful N/A engine that makes an amazing sound over these new twinturbo cars that weigh something like a pickup truck and have fake engine noises played through the stereo
I only drive classics and can say that the newly daily sports cars weigh way more less then old ones even with that pile of junk technology. So that Turbo statement is just plain shit
I've had my for 5 years now put 80,000 miles on the car and she still runs like a BOSS!!! Sure I have had things break down on it the car is meant to be used so if you want one of these get it just remember if you want to play you have to pay!
I agree this is a phenomenal car but I think you should have bought a BMW m5 e39, the noise of the v8 is just staggering and the experience is just much more scary and realistic
Plus they come in manual only whereas it is almost impossible to find a m5 e60 manual and a smg gearbox is not good enough in my opinion sooo yeah looool
I love Clarkson`s reviews for their unique and often hilarious humour, and I love Tiff`s reviews, especially this one, because you can see that he has the ability to drive this awesome car on its absolute limit, and still under his full control. No disrespect to Clarkson, but I see two very different levels of driving skill here. It was an education to watch.
He’s right to an extent about possible timing chain, but change the chain and on first start-up it’s still gonna sound rough, OP is right the vanos makes it sound this way
@@robbieshaft Its not the VANOS. Nor is it the timing chain. Yes, both of those things do make a rattle when they are worn out, but not when new....and in any case that would not resolve as the engine warms up! My guess is its the combination of the aggressive cam profile combined with the hydraulic cam followers, which need the oil pressure to build up before they expand fully hence the tappety sound on cold start which resolves after a couple of minutes.
WOW, I'm beginning to realize that the older this car gets, the more people miss it and watches this Video. I Love Tiff and I love the Chris Bangle E60 ///M5.

I’m lucky enough to still have one of these beasts and I’ve only used S6 a few times, gotta look after that clutch 😅
Confirming this BMW is the most impressive I've driven. Friend in Houston picked one up; after the first service at the dealer, they allow the ECU to deliver all 500 + PS/BHP. Wicked!

I went through and changed every fluid in the entire vehicle as soon as I got it and all is well...oh..I should mention that the PROPER rear diff fluid costs almost $50 a pint...X3 :)
Bullshit. I just got an 2008 with 54,248 miles for $32,000 came with an RPI Air Ram Intake, Boysen Exhaust, Custom X-Pipe, and a K40 Radar & Laser Jammer. Its black on black and has a manual. Didn't go with a SMG. For $16,000 the engine must be missing or a bad tranny with over 125,000 miles. Definitely not 625hp. Cheapest I have seen is $21,000 which is an 06 with 125,000 miles with 1 accident. For 16k you got a used honda with a exhaust held up by a coat hanger and some electrical tape.

When you press the M button BMW's default settings are activated, giving you stiffened suspension, quicker gear shifts and the full 507 hp. The power button only gives the 507 hp by activating two extra cylinders.
Yes that can be a little confusing at first. Here's how it works. "M" drive gives no performance upgrades what-so-ever. It's purely a button where you can program your presets, through IDrive. Clarkson happened to have the power set to is "M" button. The power button however does give you the same amount of power as the one you can program to work with you M-Drive button. The old M cars always had full power, no power button. Back then the M button only stiffened the suspension and throttle.

Double vanos, the reason why it sounds like a diesel in a morning.
AfcSkillzz it's on full valve overlap to get as much heat into the catalysts as fast as possible, that's why it is so noisy.

This is an incredible car. Wonderfully tested by Tiff Needell.
Pause at 5.07 seconds the front of the car actually lifts with about 507BHP going throu FB the rear wheels aswell. What a car!
Just bought one today, always missed my earlier e39 M5, after that I had an e46 M3, FQ-360MR Evo and GolF R32.... love the M5 so far but need to read through the manual now... maybe take a week, lol. Car is mint so Happy... won't be driving mine like Tiff though.
The video actually presents what happens to older men when we buy the m5. I've owned one now for almost 2 years and I feel like I just turned 25. Wicked everything.
