- Can this OEX TACANA SOLO STOVE for £39 compete with the JETBOIL MINIMO? Gear Review | Wild Camping
In this video, I unbox and review the OEX Tacana Solo Stove which is currently on sale at Go Outdoors for £39. It comes with a heat exchange pot with a neoprene insulator cover, a vented pot lid, a stove base, a pot support and a gas canister stand. I carry out a boil test to see how quick it will boil 500ml of water.
All opinions are my own and I am not affiliated with Go Outdoors or OEX.

Great video Gav, looks a smashing piece of kit, but it's huge!
Hi Phil, it’s a size but for £39 a bargain. 😀 Got to love a collection of camping stoves. Haha
@@HikingForHealth1 ssshhh, wife will hear you! 😂
😂
Thank you for the video 👍
What canister size are you using?
Are they all the same? UK
Hi thanks for watching. The bigger one in this video is 230g canister. The smaller one is a 100g I think. They come with the same fitting at the top. I believe the 230g is supposed to work best with the Tacana stove. Are you based in the UK. If so you can get these canisters from outdoors shops like Blacks, Millets, Go Outdoors, Decathlon etc. Hope it helps.
I wonder if the smaller gas canister affected the boil time for the Tacana? Manufacturer states: This stove should only be used with Butane-Propane Mix Gas Cartridge 230g.
That’s an interesting point. I’ll pop the larger one on and see if it’s any better. Cheers and thanks for watching. 🙂
Hmm it’s good it comes with the stand and pot support but that boil time was really bad. Doesn’t the heiro boil 500mls in 2.5 mins?
Cool video dude and looks like you get a lot for you money. Might pick one up to put in the cupboard of my campervan for extra cooking.
Sounds good. At this price Clint, would be a great back up for you. Thanks for watching. 😀
I've seen those gas cans getting stuck to the burner when storing in the pot together.
It’s definitely a tight squeeze.
Hi just got one,if you read the instruction leaflet it says to put the accessories in the bag and then put them in the pot this is to prevent scratching the inside of the pot.
best regards
Salty
🙂
Nice one. Thanks for mentioning that. All the best and thanks for watching. 😀
Very cool, camping equipment
Thanks for watching!
Was thinking of buying this as I saw how good the price was! Glad to see a review from someone’s experience with it! Thanks mate 🙌🏻x
You’re welcome. Glad it was of use. 😀
Silly question- but how long roughly did it take to cool down to be able to pack away again?
I use it, make my coffee etc and by the time I’ve finished drinking it it’s usually ready to be packed away. 😀
I have my Tacana for a couple of years now and very happy with it. The OEX Frysta pan sits on top well for frying up bacon of a morning. 😊
It’s seems like a great deal for the cost! 😀 An early morning bacon buttie when wild camping. 👍🏻
Excellent review, thanks you! Just what I needed to see 👍
Thanks. Glad it was useful. Great bargain for the price. 😀
Great vid. Convinced me to buy one but they’re now £75. Think I’ll look again.
Thanks for watching. I’d keep an eye out for the next sale as they’re always down in price. Bit like the OeX Bobcat 1 tent.
I will wait till sale too I think. May aswell buy a Jetboil, than pay £75
For £39 you can go wrong but it is unreliable, the OEX heiro is a better unit by far. But can the tacana compete with a jetboil minimo.... no certainly not 👍
Yea, the Heiro is a more compact unit and I’ve found it to be more reliable over time. I have the Minimo and that would be my choice over the two OEX ones. The Minimo paired with the Jetboil Summit Skillet is 👌🏻👍🏻😎
@@HikingForHealth1 100% mate love my minimo, I was messing about earlier and found out the minimo and the Flash burners are totally interchangeable 👍 pretty cool stuff 👌.
Stoves are a bad habit mate 🤣🙄
I love the skillet I've got the 1.5 litre ceramic pot also that's a lovely bit of kit
It does look good that. I’ve had my eye on it. Recommended yeah? When I first got my Minimo I used to use it for water and cooking but found even with the heat on low it still was too hot in the centre of the pot and would end up with burn/food marks on the inner of it. Was a nightmare to clean. I ended up contact Jetboil who put me in touch with the UK distributor and they sent me out a new pot. Tend to use the pot for water now and the skillet for cooking food. But that ceramic pot would make a nice addition. Know what you mean about stoves. The msr Pocket Rocket prob next with a toaks titanium pot. Any thoughts?
@@HikingForHealth1 good of them to send you a new pot mate 👍, aye a only use my minimo pot for boiling water and the skillet and ceramic pot for cooking, yeah defo recommend it really nice bit of kit and super lightweight.
I've got the pocket rocket 2 and Toaks 550/750. Paired my 750 with soto windmaster that's a nice setup.
Must admit I prefer the flash 2.0 pot over the minimo,s but been able to pair with the minimo burner is spot on, I've tested it today works perfectly 👍
@@davt8615 Sounds like you’re all sorted for hikes and camping! Nice one! 🏕️😎
Smashing vid
Thanks son 😀
£39, not found one for that price anywhere. Millets £80. When did you buy this.
Hi, was about 3 to 4 weeks ago from Go Outdoors.
@@HikingForHealth1
I will head up to Lincoln go outdoors and question them about this as showing at nearly double that with membership card, I got the hiero but a little small for cooking in. Great vid camping up at Alport castle, was wondering how you got from Sheffield but it all came clear at the end when you got on the bus.
Keep up the vids they are very interesting.
@noodledoes4309 Thanks for the kind words. Yes, there is a direct bus from Sheffield Interchange that goes to Fairholmes. The interchange is right next to Sheffield Railway Station too. Thanks for watching. 😀
Just bought this stove but cannot find a 230g gas canister to use in set up, only 240g but this will nof fit inside cup when putting awsy. Are 230g gas obsolete?
Hi, where are you from Rich. My gas is 230g (just been and checked) and they regularly come in those sizes at Go Outdoors in the UK. Mines a Jetboil one.
@@HikingForHealth1 got stove from Go Outdoors Kidderminster, didnt have 230g at time
If you go to 8:37 on my latest video you can see the Jetboil canister I use which is the 230g one. 👍🏻🙂
@@HikingForHealth1 ill have another look thanks
I think the link has gone to the Tacana review but it’s on the latest group camp vid. Just to make sure 👌🏻
